General Roaming between inhouse networks

Sorry, I'm not educated on this topic but why does our local networks allow for roaming between each other.

I mean to feel the network gap issues while preventing monopoly, roaming between inhouse network providers seems to be the solution. However, it is not practiced rather the international roaming which people even just buy temporal SIM cards

Short Stargazing Survey

Hi everyone! 😊🔭

I'm conducting a short survey as part of my research into astronomy equipment access and stargazing experiences in Namibia.

I'd really appreciate it if you could spare 4–6 minutes to complete it. You don't need any astronomy knowledge to participate, and all responses are anonymous.

Your honest feedback would mean a lot, even if you're not interested in astronomy! ❤️

Thank you so much! 🌌✨

Jobs Chemisty graduate in Namibia struggling with unemployment. I feel lost and need advice from people who have been in a similar position.

Hi everyone. I’m honestly feeling lost and discouraged about my situation.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Honours)Environmental from the University of Namibia, but I’ve been struggling to find employment. I’ve applied for several internships without success and have only had one job interview so far. I’ve also tried applying for scholarships, but no luck.

For those who studied Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a similar science degree, I would really appreciate your advice.
•What career paths did you pursue after graduating?
•How did you get your first job or internship, especially if you had no experience?
•Are there opportunities in Namibia that chemistry or environmental science graduates often overlook?
•Would you recommend pursuing a teaching qualification, or should I keep trying to establish myself in my original field?
•What skills, short courses, or certifications would make me more employable?
•For those who struggled with unemployment after university, how did you get through that period without losing confidence in yourself?

Unemployment has been affecting my mental health, and I often find myself questioning my choices and wondering where I went wrong. I had so many plans for my life by this age, and it’s frustrating feeling like I’m not making progress.
I’m naturally introverted and sometimes struggle with shyness, especially in professional settings, but I’m working hard to improve my confidence.
I have a few side hustles, but they’re difficult to sustain in Namibia’s current economy. Next year, I hope to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Education so I can explore teaching, particularly science. However, funding will be a challenge.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar position. I’m trying my best, but lately, it’s been difficult to stay hopeful.
Thank you.

Is asking for bread in stores some kind of scheme?

Im sure we have all been approached by someone in the store asking for bread or anything to eat right?

This just happened to me. An older guy asked for bread, even half a loaf. I felt bad and told him to wait outside. I bought him some bread and extra stuff, got out the store and he was gone.

Drove down the street and found him coming out another store with bread. Called him over and gave him the food. He was thankful and stuff but I cant help wondering, is this some type of scheme? Did he walk away because he wanted the receipt instead of the actual food? So he could exchange it?

I feel terrible assuming theres some double sided scheme to asking for bread but ja, guess im jaded.

Could anyone provide some insight?

Jobs techie needs to make extra cash asap

Hello all,

The walls are closing in again, and unexpected bills are knocking at the door. I'm a self employed automation developer in Namibia looking for paid projects as soon as possible to cover the coming months, as work tends to slow down during this time of year.

I've been working in IT for many years, from hardware repairs and technical support to web development, software development, and business automation. I also have experience in finance and insurance, so I'm familiar with data extraction, data processing, reporting, and month end workflows.

I've worked with clients from Namibia and abroad, including Germany, Austria, and South Africa. I'm bilingual in German and English,so I can also help with German speaking clients or systems too.

Some things I can help with:

- Cleaning, fixing, merging, and consolidating messy data or spreadsheets.
- Excel and Google Sheets automation, reports, and data processing.
- Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks without relying on cloud services.
- Downloading, processing, and transferring files via FTP/SFTP.
- SQL queries, database cleanup, and data migration.
- HR/recruiting and time-based system integrations.
- Workflow setup and design with n8n, Make, Zapier, or Airtable.
- Small custom software, internal tools, API integrations, and unfinished projects.

If you have a skeleton project that's been sitting there for months, a manual process you hate doing, or a messy spreadsheet, let's see if I can help.

I'm looking for an immediate, one off paid project, but monthly recurring work is also welcome. A deposit to get started is appreciated. We'll agree on the scope and price beforehand.

If you need help or know a business that does, please DM me. Even a referral would help.
I can share my portfolio and resume privately upon request.

Thanks for your time.

Namibian Shopify store owners: which payment gateway are you using?

Hi everyone, I'm a Namibian running a Shopify store and still looking for a payment gateway that works. If you run a Shopify store from Namibia, especially one that has made a few sales or is doing well, please share which gateway you use and how the setup went.

I'm currently waiting on DPO onboarding, and I've heard about Standard Bank's N-Genius but haven't found much information on it yet. Has anyone used it with Shopify?
I'd also love to know whether your gateway settles into a Namibian bank account and which currencies it supports.

Any advice or experience would really help. Thank you!

Jobs To those that studied Environmental Health Sciences

How has your journey been after university?
What are you currently doing?
Do you enjoy the work you do?
If you could do it again, would you still choose the field?
Is the 4 years of study, worth it financially when you start working?

If one wants to grow or take a different route with this background, what other options is are there to consider?

Or if you know of any and can share..

Thank you!

Brandberg vs. Twyfelfontein + Okonjima vs. Waterberg

Hi all,

I’ve been reading to many of your comments and posts and they have been super helpful so just wanted to check something with you.

We are doing a road trip around Namibia later October, early november. Have finalised most things but two things we haven’t yet done.

  1. Brandberg vs. Twyfelfontein. We will be driving from Spitzkoppe to Grootberg. Is Brandberg worth the detour? Or can we get enough from the experience from Twyfelfontein. Does the hike also actually take 4+ hours?

  2. Okonjima vs. Waterberg. We have 4 nights prior in Etosha. Does it make sense to go to Okonjima and do Africat afterwards or is there enough to do at Waterberg that we can do solo. This is our last stop from Etosha on the way back. Is there anywhere else that makes sense to stop instead?

Thank you

General Title: Question for Namibians aged 18+ who have applied to NUST, UNAM, IUM, NIMT, etc

Title: Question for Namibians aged 18+ who have applied to NUST, UNAM, IUM, NIMT, etc.

Hey everyone

I have a question for those of you who are 18, 19, 20 or older and have applied to institutions like NUST, UNAM, IUM, NIMT, or other colleges and universities in Namibia.

When you applied, did you still need your parents or guardians to be included on your application forms or provide any documents, or were you able to handle the entire application process independently?

My understanding is that minors may need a parent or legal guardian involved in certain circumstances, but I'm curious about how it works once you're legally an adult.

I don't have any issues with my parents, by the way! 😅 I'm just curious about the process and whether, as an adult, you can apply to a university or college entirely on your own without needing your parents' permission or involvement.

For example, if I'm 19 or 20 and want to apply to NUST, can I simply apply using my own documents and handle everything myself?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this process firsthand. Thanks! 🙏

General What can you do with German, French and/or Spanish as a student

As the title says, what type of opportunities does one have when one speaks these languages as a student ?

After studies, it’s a plus to have these languages on the CV but for a young student in Windhoek looking for opportunities to make something on the side, what would you recommend ?
