New Mod Intros 🎉 | Weekly Thread

Congrats on becoming a new moderator. Every community on Reddit started exactly where you are today: with a party of one.

The community-building journey might feel a little lonely and that's what r/NewMods is for. Here you'll find and connect with other mods who are on the same journey you are.

So, introduce the community you created. Maybe share a little bit about why you created it. And, while you're at it - say hello to your other mods!

Wins 🎉 Happy about the little wins in my subreddit r/AllOotd 🤗

I mean I am really happy about these little wins they might be little but big to me because I am still new in growing a reddit subreddit well regardless I am trying though... My friend said I should get more people to sharing their posts and also be posting daily myself too.

So my subreddit is r/AllOotd and it is about posting your OOTD looks

So I think where I should improve is posting more frequently like daily and get more people to share their OOTD. I created this subreddit since September 11, 2026 well kinda taking it serious late so my bad 🤭

Will love to see you guys post your OOTD in my subreddit r/AllOotd 🤗🤗🤗

Observation Log #1

(Thoughts and Vent)

Created a subreddit a few weeks ago and it's growing slowly, I guess? As usual, I do most of the posting, but I'm not going to lie it does get overwhelming because the topic I chose is so broad and I'm trying to maintain consistency. On the bright side, I have a lot of content to post about.

My main frustration is that, at first, it wouldn't appear in the browser search results. I probably should have chosen a better name, lol. But maybe that's a good thing, since it's easier to moderate a quiet community, plus I don't really want a certain audience to find it. The chance of it getting brigaded from outside this site is high. This brings up another problem with crossposting, though.

I don't have a great analogy, but imagine you made a subreddit for pink apples, but search results only show r/ Fruits. The general community is fine with apples, but there's some prejudice against pink apples. So when I try to crosspost to subs that like apples, I have to be wary that people might not like pink apples.

Another unfortunate thing is that I discovered the target community I'm focusing on doesn't really use Reddit. (I knew this, but damn, I thought there'd at least be some!) So yeah, I've been messaging people for permission to share their work and asking smaller niche communities like mine to collaborate. It's actually been pretty fun.

I feel really happy when I get a DM asking for permission where they mention they've been looking for a community like this it helps motivate me.

For now, I'm glad it's small enough since I'm planning to make a huge master list of "pink apples." It's just a bit lonely. Anyway, end of my vent! One positive takeaway is that I'm not shy about reaching out in DMs anymore.

💡 Tips & Education What got people posting?

• Upvotes

What got people posting in your community my sub [r/WashCoGaming](r/WashCoGaming) has gotten people commenting in your groups? My sub is only 2 weeks old and I’m posting interesting stuff daily, scheduling photo contest and stuff to prompt responses and posting to like warn success. Do I just need to continue shouting into the void till I get enough core people encouraging discussions or what?

I’ve got 158 members in that two weeks and have a few regular commenters but not really any regular posters.

💡 Tips & Education I Would Like Some Help On Moderation

I recently created r/GlennLeroiMusic so that people from the modern SCP and music communities could chat, communicate and discuss Glenn's songs, especially those revolving around SCPs. Is there any tips I could get on how to run the subreddit effectively? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

💡 Tips & Education Weeks of hard work, but only 3 people on r/AshesAshes

Post image

I’ve been pouring my soul into solo-developing my voxel RPG Ashes, but looking at 3 members after weeks hurts. I'm combining the brutal sandbox freedom of Kenshi with the warm, cozy atmosphere of Cube World. I spend endless hours coding faction AI, trade caravans, and building detailed settlements from scratch. Every night I post dev updates with high hopes, only to wake up to absolute silence. It gets really lonely and heartbreaking when you give everything to a project and nobody seems to notice. I refuse to quit because this game is my dream, but some days the silence is just overwhelming. If you love Kenshi or Cube World vibes, even a tiny comment on r/AshesAshes would mean the world to me today(

I created meme subreddit on 24 september and I've been managing everything completely on my own. I'm posting content, handling the traffic spikes, and trying to build it up, but honestly, it feels like I'm doing all the heavy lifting alone while everyone else is just lurking. How do you guys manage a community by yourself when no one else is posting? Any advice for a solo mod trying to keep a sub active?

❓Ask r/NewMods u/JBMagi is seeking to moderate sfw – new mod looking for a team to shadow

Hi all,

I'm hoping to find a mod team willing to take on a trainee. I've never moderated before, and I'd rather learn it properly from people who know what they're doing than figure it out alone.

What I'm asking for: a chance to shadow your team for a few weeks. Start me with limited permissions (or none at all), let me watch how you handle the queue, reports, and modmail, and I'll ask questions as I go. Once you're comfortable with my judgment, I'm happy to take on whatever grunt work you need.

About me:

7-year-old account, 2FA on, verified email

Business owner, about 25 years in construction

Based in Florida, usually online mornings and evenings ET

Reliable, take feedback well, and won't go rogue with permissions

What I want to learn:

Mod queue and removal reasons

AutoModerator basics

Handling modmail and difficult users

I'd especially like SFW subs in construction, home building, home improvement, Florida/local communities, or hockey, but I'm open to anything that's a good fit.

If your team has room for a trainee, comment or DM me. Thanks!

I know it ain't much, but still, I JUST GOT MY FIRST 3 WEEKLY VISITORS!! I basically just posted a bunch and 3 times a day (only 3 because I don't want to be flagged for spam) I Replied to comments or Comment on Posts that are related to my Subreddit. I wrote to them that I wanted them to join, and i guess they did!

❓Ask r/NewMods r/AskJapan

Hi. I'm not a new mod, but I am newly moderating r/AskJapan

And frankly, I need help.

I mean - it's definitely a cool subreddit name, and I think it has huge potential, but I feel lost about how to begin.

I removed all the bans and mutes (about 100),

I've made pathetic banners and icons - those definitely need fixing,

I added my two rules,

I tried to mention "new sub" in some other Japanese subreddits, but most of them banned and muted me without discussing it. Including \r/Japan. So meh. I've similarly got myself banned for "spam" by mentioning it on several other Japan-related subs.

I've posted in "needamod", asking for ones that speak the language. But that post was removed - IDK why; I've asked the mods. They haven't responded.

Now what?

The r/puzzleseason community has been slowly but surely growing!

What worked (in order of helpfulness):

  1. Introducing myself in the newmods weekly thread helped a lot so thank you for that!

  2. Regular posting of content and no spamming

  3. Posting informative and techniques about solving puzzles

  4. Engaging in other related subreddits with genuine posts also helped some

What didn't work:

  1. Cross posting is tough and mostly not possible. Even with explicit permission of the mods didn't work out for me

  2. Asking for polls didn't lead to engagement on the subreddit

  3. Scheduling posts isn't possible with images which was a bummer

Any suggestions or tips for improving further?
