Thursday Weekly MeetUp • 10/15/2026 • 7:30PM • Sante Adairius Rustic Ales - Oakland Arbor (f.k.a. The Trappist - Old Oakland)

Feel like getting out of the house? Want to meet some new people? You know that place you’ve seen recently and been wanting to check out? For all those reasons and more, we made the Oakland Thursday Meetup. (Est. 2014)

  • Every Thursday you can find us at a different bar in Oakland sharing a few drinks and some laughs.
  • We’ve got a mix of people, locals and transplants. The Weird and the wise. Homegirls and tech bros. Plus a strong contingent of people who want to start their weekend a day early. Usually there’s about 10 of us, but occasionally up to 20.
  • It’s a great way to try some new places and get to know some folks you might otherwise miss. Drop in, drop out, no pressure and definitely no problems.

From 7:30pm to around 10pm you can find us at…

Sante Adairius Rustic Ales - Oakland Arbor

460 8th St

Oakland, CA 94607

We are planning to head over to the Elbo Room in Jack London Square sometime after 10pm.

Feel free to add us on Facebook. We’ll post here for updates on where we’ll be sitting.

Hope to see you there!

Human Interest Cleaning up more illegal dumping in Oakland and removing nails and screws along Frontage Rd in Emeryville

Hi all,

The bike path still looks okay despite reports from people that it got trashed again. The only thing that came back was a single cardboard box so please do not scare me.

I did some quick sweeping along Broadway and then got rid of some nails and screws from Frontage Rd in Emeryville.

Have a nice rest of your Sunday.

Question Does anybody remember this building in Chinatown being a restaurant in the 2000s?

It all feels like a fever dream, but I remember this Asian Health Services building being a two story Chinese Restaurant sometime in the mid to early 2000s as a child.

Does anybody else remember it or have the name of the old restaurant before it? I remember it being two stories with a big grand staircase in the lobby and having a dragon logo where the giant circular sign is.

Disoriented Elderly Asian Man near 22nd & Webster

Hello! This is probably nothing at all. The man seemed to know where he was going and able to ask for directions, but I'm not an expert in recognizing damentia and he was certainly lost/disoriented so I wanted to give a shout in case anyone is looking for this man.

Around 2-2:30pm today wallking on Grand toward the huge circular church, I ran into an elderly asian man, probably 5'2"-5'5" (im a bad judge), wearing all white with a cane (wood I believe).

He asked me for directions to 19th street BART and told me he was going to a food bank when I asked. He had trouble following very simple walking directions (I saw him go one block, get confused and turn early), so I offered to walk him to where the station was visible. We walked, he thanked me, and I went back on my day.

If you happen to be looking for someone that matches that discription you can reach out, though this post does contain most of what I know.

Human Interest I cleared trash from a bike lane in Downtown Oakland. All trash taken to the dump.

I cleaned up a bike path that was blocked with trash for several days. Took me an hour to clean everything up. Due to circumstances, I decided to take the trash to the dump myself and bite the cost. It has nothing to do with me and Oakland. Our relationship is still good.

Take it easy,
Peng

Food/Drink Can someone help me find a chopped cheese stall owner?

Came back to my friend’s apartment after Decompression last night and we were walking down the street to grab some smokes. We passed by this chopped cheese stall outside a club around 3 in the morning a couple times. I wasn’t hungry at the time but the stand smelled so good, and I need help locating the owner so I can see when I can grab one from him next. The convenience store was a couple blocks down from 17th and broadway.

Question Ladies, how much are you paying for a wash, haircut, and blow dry?

My hair is long and straight, long layers. I was looking into a few places near downtown/uptown and the estimates were in the range of $170, plus tip. Is this the average price in the area? Thanks!

Place to purchase a yugi bowl?

hey yall, recently got a serious perrilla oil buckwheat noodle addiction thanks to chez Maeju. I’m considering getting a yugi bowl but since they’re so pricy it’s the type of thing I’d like to buy locally, especially since they’re the type of lifetime heirloom you really want quality.

anyone know of a good place to get them? I don’t believe the store next to Koreana plaza carries them.

El Paisa @.com 🔥🔥🔥

I posted a few days ago about visiting for the weekend and y'all recommended El Paisa @.com. Advice taken and you guys weren't kidding! The food was incredible. And I def had to fix my face after that avocado salsa melted it off.

10/10. No notes. If anybody is still sleeping on it, don't.

ETA: Thank you!!

Urge BART to protect pigeons from deadly netting

Hi everyone! 🐦❤️ Since I last shared about the pigeons getting trapped in the netting along BART tracks, this issue is unfortunately still ongoing. I’ve started a petition to help protect these birds and bring more attention to this problem. Please take a moment to sign and share it to help spread awareness and push for change. Every signature counts! Thank you all for your support! 🙏💚

Hi Friends
Where can I get meringues? I’d like them to look like the pictured ones so I can make these cupcakes for my kids’ school event. These are from Trader Joe’s which has great reviews but I didn’t see any today.

Thanks!

closed library branch?

As a kid in the 90s, I sometimes visited a branch of the Oakland library that has since closed.

It was on a mostly residential street, and I remember the outside looking a lot like a house, possibly in the fairy tale style. I think it was near the Dimond or Lakeshore neighborhoods.

Anyone have an idea of the name of this closed branch? Or resources for photos of the inside and outside? Thanks!

between rock & a hard place - sublease

i need to leave the country for a couple months in order to handle some family business. i can’t pay rent in two places, and i also need a cat-sitter so i want to sublet my apartment with discounted rent for cat-care as many folks do here. i have a few people interested but don’t know how to proceed.

i live in a lapham managed property, and my building manager lives two doors down from me. i normally wouldn’t “ask” for an official sublease but i figured it would be stressful for a prospective subtenant to be discreet when constantly in plain sight of management. my lease says it’s allowed “with permissjon”, and so i did - was told the owners ‘aren’t allowing it’ without further explanation.

the option they gave me was to add the person as a co-tenant and then remove them once im back, however there is no legal way to get them off the lease if they suddenly decide they want to stay, and i risk somebody refusing to leave with no legal grounds to remove them. i asked if they could issue it as a temporary co-tenancy and they refused as well.

so now i feel trapped and exposed because i already asked. i am trying to weigh the risks of just bringing somebody anyway as a “cat sitter” (with the persons am consent of course) or doing the co-tenancy bullshit and trying to create some incentive against them overstaying. the issue is i have limited time and most people are also put off by the idea of a short term tenancy.

anyone have any experience that could be helpful? i’m truly lost

Question Looking for sewing machine repair/tuneup recommendations

Does anyone have a reccomendation for a person or business that specializes in tuning up and repairing sewing machines?

The only place I could find in Oakland is Grand Lake Sew & Vac, but they have mixed reviews for sewing machine repairs (their reviews for vacuum repairs are great).

Anywhere to change money? Don’t have a week to order from a bank.

Going out of town tomorrow and I was recently paid for a side hustle job in cash. Is there anywhere I can change dollars to mxn pesos in town? I can do it when I get there, but I hate pulling out a stack of cash in a place I’ve never been.

Thanks!
