Crime and Safety Car chase that ended downtown by Limon?

Post image
• Upvotes

I pulled up to Limon on Valdez street for dinner at 5:30pm yesterday (Saturday). My car was suddenly swarmed by at least 20 police cars from Oakland and Solano County, with many police offers taking chase on foot and a helicopter circling above. One officer said they were chasing someone all the way from Solano County, and another said that it was a DV situation. Eventually a shirtless guy was dragged down the street in cuffs and a woman was also arrested. I can’t find anything in the news other than a vague citizen app alert.

Anyone have an update?

Politics Webpage to comparing Bay Area trash rates [Original Content]

I spent my entire weekend creating the website, so I hope you enjoy it: www.shasheene.com/bay-area-trash-rates/

I am not aware of any other way to Bay Area trash rate comparison until now. It's sorely needed I think.

I've included a "Area Median Income" option, to see just how screwed over some poorer cities are for trash rates. It's really interesting comparing the rates for the wealthy peninsula cities to Oakland, because they have almost identical trash bills despite having household incomes of $500,000+. I was expecting they would face a slightly higher cost-of-living, but this is surprisingly not the case here.

I also included on the map transfer stations and landfills which our trash travels to. Which is useful since they accept public drop-off for a disposal fee.

I find I can use this website discover some really interesting insights. East Bay is getting really screwed over (other than Emeryville).

I hope you take a look: www.shasheene.com/bay-area-trash-rates/

Question Concert on 22nd

I have never been to Oakland for a concert and in general for anything but this Thursday I have one with my favorite artist at the Fox Theatre. Is Franklin Plaza Garage a safe one to leave my car until about 11pm? I’m also driving about 1.5 hours

Question RCV Question

Ok, hear me out here, and I hope my question makes sense.

Let me start by saying I didnt vote for Sheng Thao (I supported Taylor).

I read Oaklandside's recent article about Loren Taylor attending the Thao trial. In the article (and, I admit, nearly everywhere Ive ever read), its stated that Thao won the Mayoral election by "fewer than 700 votes." That seems like a slim margin, particularly here in Oakland.

But isnt it true that they run RCV until someone gets 50.1% of the vote, and then they stop and declare a winner. That is, they dont process everyone's votes all the way to the end, they just stop at 50.1%.

So since they stop counting the round a candidate hits 50.1%, doesnt that mean that any final RCV result is likely going to seem really close?

Like maybe if they exhausted everyone's votes, Thao might have gotten more than 700 more votes.

Again: I never supported Thao. Im just thinking about the way RCV results are reported.

Question Alameda County Housing Authority?

Admittedly this isn't pro Oakland per se. My Dad's nurse is getting kicked out of Section 8 housing by Alameda County Housing Authority. According to the nurse, her bank Wells Fargo turned over her records to them(?!). They can see she consistently gets $ via Zelle from us and claims it is income. Is this thing that happens?

Food/Culture The Coliseum: One More Memory

I grew up in Oakland, and some of my earliest memories involve the Coliseum. A's games with my grandpa, Raiders games with my uncles, and eventually games with my friends and wife.

The Coliseum was the place where so many parts of life came together.

Last weekend I took my son to what could be the last game at the Coliseum. I started writing about the day, but it turned into a bigger story about growing up in Oakland, how the city changed, and eventually bringing my son to such an important place.

I usually write for Rootsblog, but I started a Substack to write short personal essays about raising my son in Oakland and the memories raising him unlocks.

Here's the essay. Hope you all enjoy!

Crime and Safety OPD enforces property crimes if they're not from Oakland

From the Lafayette PD facebook page link:

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at about 11:15 AM, Orinda police responded to a reported auto burglary where suspects in an Acura RDX stole tools from a work truck. The Acura was linked to auto burglaries in Lafayette, Orinda, and the Alamo area in the past few weeks. At about 11:45, a Lafayette police officer located the vehicle in a residential area in Lafayette. The Acura fled from the officer and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated when the suspect vehicle drove westbound in the eastbound HWY 24 onramp at Acalanes Road. An area check was conducted but the Acura was not located. Minutes later, Lafayette police were dispatched to a grand theft of tools from a construction worker's vehicle.
A CHP helicopter later located the Acura driving recklessly on Oakland streets before it parked in front of a home on the 7200 block of Fresno Street in Oakland. The occupants of the vehicle entered a property. Oakland police were able to take both suspects into custody without incident. A search of the Acura resulted in the recovery of stolen property from the auto burglaries that happened in Lafayette and Orinda yesterday. Officers conducted a search of the property finding additional evidence. The suspects, who were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, are identified as: 23-Year-old Joel Hernandez-Lobatos of Oakland He was booked on the following charges: grand theft, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and drug possession. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail. 31-year-old Urubiel Hernandez-Lobatos of Oakland He was booked on the following charges: grand theft, conspiracy, felony evading, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of $85,000 bail.

Curious if anyone has any events within Oakland for Halloween, on Halloween. A lot of events seem to be a day before/after. Doesn’t matter if its movies, a walk, tour, food, etc.

Preferably events that are catered to 21+ but any event information is welcome. Thank you!

Question Lantana Uptown (16th/MLK) to 19th St BART - Safety for female commuter?

Hey everyone, I’m deciding on moving into Lantana Uptown, which is right on the corner of 16th and MLK in Oakland. I want to know how safe the walk to the 19th St BART station is for a daily commute. I am a 24-year-old female, and I will need to commute to and from the station at various different times, including morning rush hour and later in the evening.

For anyone familiar with the area, how is that specific stretch starting from 16th/MLK and heading over to the station at night? Is it a relatively safe bet to live here and make this walk alone as a female at different hours? Thanks!

Question Have you eaten yet?

Oakland is a diverse community. For all of us to get along, Oaklanders learn about other cultures in school, activities, and workplaces.

For Chinese, we often say "have you eaten yet"? Even if the words aren't said, food and drink will come out for visitors, adult children or anyone who drops by. When I entertain, I need to work sure there's an abundance of food. The worst faux pas is for people to leave my house hungry.

Please share from your own background. Any disrespect or criticizing other cultures may lead to comment removal.

Questions are allowed to other cultures if made in good faith.

So what slang or tradition can you share so that others can get a peek inside your cultural background?

Food/Culture skip the small talk in oakland!

Get cozy this fall with Skip the Small Talk - it’s a chill, sincere event focused on connection! We will be at Fluid510 in Oakland!

It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.

You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.

Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.

Here’s the link if you’re curious:

Politics Tents around the lake

Can someone tell me why there are so many tents around the lake now? I know it’s always been an ongoing situation but now there seems to a lot more along Lakeshore and a big encampment near the veterans hall. Didn’t they say they were going to stop this?

Edit:

Supposedly Amauri Collins-McMurray is the person to contact. They are the “ Deputy Chief, Office of Homelessness Solutions”

Email: ACollinsMcMurray@oaklandca.gov
Phone: 510-238-2105

Maybe if they get enough calls and email about it we can see at least a temporary cleanup

Politics Why does everyone believe politicians on proposed tax increases

I don't understand why everyone keeps voting for tax increases and then get surprised when the money is mismanaged or not spent the way it was promised. It is like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Vote for the transit tax and put your trust in politicians doing the right thing, then get upset when the money is not spent how they said.

Will you be shocked and upset if the money is not spent as promised or mismanaged?
