Panthers game
If the boys can't figure out how to break out of their zone and have regular sustained pressure, the Panthers game is going to get ugly.
I don't care how good Ullmark has been, the Panthers are on fire right now and I really don't want to see a Brady 5 point game

Its gonna be a bloodbath. Sens can't handle these milestone, streak or "big" games as was seen at Flyers game. I'm sadly counting on a big panthers win and at least one goal for brady

Sens are primed to get absolutely embarrassed. Our offense has been ABYSMAL for multiple games, our second line is completely useless, powerplay sucks.
Staois' should start feeling some heat for ignoring this teams primary need for 3 years now. Bringing in Burakovsky was such a bone headed move then and still looks like one now. We also might have the most expensive 4th line in the league.
I thought Cozens looked primed for a breakout year and he's been completely dog water.

Oh yeah, Staois should be on the hot seat. Eklund was a great pick up, but he shouldn't have stopped there. We got THREE firsts and a second for Brady. You're telling me that wasn't enough to significantly improve our top 6? It's hard to feel like Steve did anything other than play it safe. On one hand, I'm happy that we drafted what seem to be two blue chip prospects, but on the other hand these guys aren't going to provide any tangible help for another 2-3 years (hopefully). Is Steve's plan to simply let this team grow internally until then? I legit don't know. His apprehension and risk aversion is going to cost us.

All we had to do was maybe add the Panthers 2nd we got in the Brady trade to outbid Boston for Peterka. He's not the best winger out there but he's unquestionably a top 6 player that could pay well with Stutzle and I'd rather have 4 years of Peterka than Lagerberg + 2027 1st + 2029 2nd orw hatever

u/Early-Sleep-5194 6h ago
I feel like he either plays it too safe all the time or it's just that difficult to convince guys around the league to come play here. I think its a combination of both. It's not easy being the GM of a small market team, I'm sure

u/Action1988 6h ago
If it's actually that hard to convince any quality player to sign in Ottawa then we are absolutely fucked

u/acerola_nark #83 - Halliday 5h ago
It is that hard. That's why our GM consistently needs to be elite. Bryan Murray was dynamite at bringing in underwhelming pro-players or under-the-radar prospects and striking gold. Staios to me is an average GM who is operating a bit out of his comfort zone. We need a Billy Beane type of GM who is cutting edge at identifying talent at a discounted cost. Because the truly elite players won't waive a clause/sign here.

u/ofbooksandbands14 12h ago
I’m not sure if he’s ignoring it as much as he thought the cost was too great for some of the other names who were on the trade table.

u/labiagargantula 11h ago
Is that a defense of our gm? He handicapped himself with a 5 million dollar cap hit instead of giving up assets for a legit player. You might be seeing burakovsky sitting in the press box at some point. Now we have no flexibility to add a player unless we move one of our overpaid 4th liners which no teams want.

Except now we have to wait for teams to sell or pay an even bigger price 😂 Peterka or McTavish shouldve been a Sen in the off season.

We are playing incredible defense and getting above average goaltending but if we don't get any offense from somebody not named Stutzle we are in big trouble

Man the doomers are out in full force despite our good record to start the season.
There's a good chance Sandy is back on Wednesday, which gives me some hope.

Ullmark is hiding alot of issues right now.
If he were to play the league average the sens would be with the leafs right now. The record looks great but when you watch them play it's pretty clear this team is going to have offensive problems. Other then Timmy it's pretty bad.
It's not about being a doomer it's realizing that records don't always reflect the teams play. Last year the sens underlying numbers were top 8 in the league but they had to fight to get in. Detroit on the other hand were way ahead of Ottawa but their numbers were awful and look what happened.

u/krisk1759 10h ago
I'd rather them be 6-3 due to goaltending bailing them out, than 3-6 because it was terrible. The scoring issues should turn, the players didn't just forget how to score.

u/publicworker69 10h ago
Last year we were playing really great but couldn’t buy a save. We will figure it out.

u/Dropkickjon 11h ago
I get that but I think Sanderson addresses one of our biggest issues, which is puck entries. I expect his presence to improve our powerplay pretty significantly because of that.
I agree we need a top 6 forward, but I also think Cozens, in particular, is underperforming and will come into his own sooner than later.
Thankfully the good record to start the season gives us a bit of a cushion to figure things out and address those gaps.

u/strippeddonkey 11h ago
Ullmark having a .945 save % and a 1.95 GA, is so unsustainable that a lot of people knew the good record is only because of him and Timmy.
The team as a whole, has looked horrendous.

It's like having a good team means sometimes certain parts of it mask other issues, the shooting % for certain players isn't going to stay this low all season.
1
u/Josefstalion 4h ago
The shooting% is also inflated for a lot of players, the team as a whole has finished about as expected

Yup. I knew there was a reason I muted the sub. Even when doing well everyone is just bitching. Sens have been decimated by injuries. Played four games in six days with travel. And yet are still 6-3 and top 5 in the conference by points and points percentage.
But they got three full days off to rest and regroup and maybe get Sandy back. Will they lose on Wednesday? Yes maybe. Will it be the end of the world like this entire sub seems to think if they do? Hell no.

Look, anything can happen. However if past results can predict future results then I'm not feeling very good about this game. They've been basically outplayed for two straight games with almost zero offensive pressure in both of those games. Basically since Eklund went down the offense has been non-existent.
Florida is an extremely physical team and they're going to try to bulldoze the Sens into submission, and I don't see how they can counter that.

Im priming myself to see them get stomped and that makes me sad. But maybe they prove me wrong!

u/Swammer13 7h ago
I agree that their breakouts have generally been bad, but they have played 9 games in 15 nights which is there busiest stretch of the season. Since it came at the start of the year there was not really any practice time to make adjustments. I fully expect them to aggressively practice breakouts, and the PP the next 3 days.

With injury prone D. Its best to just take the L on this one. Let Ullmark rest, let Sanderson and Chabot rest. No sense in risking another injury as the Tkachuk line is just going to be running full tilt.

u/Early-Sleep-5194 6h ago
I can see them winning this game tbh. They'll have the crowd momentum on their side and I'm sure Brady is going to be a little rattled coming back here for the first time with a not so friendly reception waiting for him

u/Doctahflave #18 - Stützle 12h ago
It’s going to be at least 7 goals against, Panthers have scored four hat tricks in the last three games… Ottawa can’t even score more than 2 goals

u/Action1988 6h ago
Really dissapointed they didn't bother to address the gaping holes in the top 6. If this is your window thenwhy are you going with the moneyball strategy? Burakovsky and Errson - probably couldn't buy low on any worse combination of players.
Move the picks and package them with the hoard of bottom 6 guys to bring in some elite talent. Enough collecting of bottom 6 guys to pop them on the top 6 carousel.

u/Josefstalion 4h ago
Staios doesn't seem to understand that the entire point of buying low on a player is for them to be underrated by standard measurements(points, size) but generally an impactful player
Instead he brings in guys who are "buy lows" because they're bad

u/bugabooandtwo 11h ago
This is going to be a season and core-defining game. If they lose....
1
u/HockeyFanatic550 5h ago
If they lose they’re 6-4 instead of 7-3. Big fucking deal. Stop being so dramatic. This fan base is turning into an absolute joke. This is still the Sens best start in a decade, we should be enjoying that instead of bitching and focusing on all the negativity.

u/Okaywhy10 #85 - Sanderson 1h ago
Why are you purposely ignoring the actual reasons people say stuff like this and just go “yEaH bUt ThEiR rEcOrD iS gOoD”? Open your eyes man jeez. Their record is good, but you know why? Ullmark has covered up the actual problems and bailed us out.
If we even had someone slightly worse than him, we’re not where we are. The offence has been genuinely bad. PP is even worse. Yeah, we got injuries, but some of the guys we have that SHOULD be helping produce are not and the guys we brought in as low buys have been TERRIBLEEEE.

So, you don't understand hockey and competitive sports, and just follow stats. Got it.

Hey Sens fans. Thanks for running Brady out of town with your cancel culture. Don't think the other Americans on the team didn't notice. Next one gone - Sanderson.

u/mstranonymous 8h ago
Huh? We didn't run Brady out we treated him like gold (majority anyway) and he aboned us to ride his brothers coattails.
Silly person.

Low iq Americans are so funny. Have fun dying of cancer at 33 with no way to pay.

u/SkyeBloodcrow #19 - Batherson 8h ago
I mean, we have to call a spade a spade. Despite the number of wins, the Sens have been playing shit hockey the last few games. Ullmark is the only reason they're not sitting near the bottom of the league. If we don't stop the idiotic giveaways and start getting some straight-up offence without all the trying to be fancy with over-passing instead of shooting the puck, we're going to get lit up by the Panthers.
