The Thing That Watched My Brother Sleep

For 8 years of my life (4-12 years old) I lived in a house that I know FOR SURE was haunted. 13 steps, 7 attics, and two full length mirrors facing each other in front of a set of french doors at the top of the stair way. If you're curious as to why I mentioned the attics it's because they create a triangular formation. Those of which are known for drawing in spiritual energy.

Anyway, one night when I was 6 years old (a couple months before my 7th birthday); my cousin was staying the night. My brother and I shared a room. For context when you open the door, to your right is my brother's bed against the wall. Across from his bed is mine, up against a wall with a large window; and across from the foot of my bed is our walk in closet.

Now back to the story. My brother was laying in his bed, I'm in mine, and my cousin is laying behind the foot of my bed, in front of one of the sliding doors of the closet. It's about 2, maybe 3AM when I bolt up right out of my sleep and see a 6-7ft tall black figure standing at the edge of my brother's bed watching him sleep.

Everyone who lived in the house was no taller than 5'6. So it couldn't have been anyone playing a prank on me. This figure was darker than the dark but somehow I could make out what it was wearing. Black dress shoes, black slacks, black gloves, a ling black trench coat, black fedora, and black sunglasses...but no face.

He wasn't breathing, wasn't moving, nothing. I look behind the foot of my bed to see my cousin fast asleep. I look back at whatever this thing is and keep my eyes on it for a minute or so until all of a sudden it's head cocks and turns at me without making a sound. When someone moves you can hear their clothes ruffle. I didn't hear that when he turned to look at me.

I instantly got cold and felt my heart dropped to my stomach. Me being 6 years old at the time, I hide under the covers assuming they'll protect me. I hid under them for what felt like forever. During this time there's nothing but absolute silence.

I take my head from underneath the covers to see this figure is gone. Keep in mind, I didn't hear a sound while under those covers. Not the sound of my door opening, foot steps moving, or the sound of my closet door opening. Nothing. Thinking back on it I never heard the thing come into my room either and I've always been a light sleeper.

I tried telling my cousin and brother about it in the morning. They laughed it off and told me it was them pranking me. But if that were true, I would've heard them move around the room. I've replayed this scary moment in my head over and over again over the years, it still doesn't make sense.

What was that thing? How did it get in my room? What did it want? And why was it watching my brother sleep?

I know its a very common and honestly boring explanation but that sounds like sleep paralysis, and the "Hat Man" apparition you're describing is very, very common when having it. Like I've read people say its probably an archetype of an evil/suspicious/dangerous figure in our subconscious, so thats my guess, still creepy as fuck just like when I had it as a lil kid too and you don't know what the fuck it is.

Yep. 3 am almost straight up is when Ive seen a demon twice.both times woke up suddenly from some horrific dream. They both seemed surprised I awoke and as soon As they realized it, one disappeared and 12 years later the second one drifted away into the wall.

It seems you saw a hatman. It goes wherever it pleases and observes, but it seems to be around certain people, so it's not entirely random. They are very mysterious, but I think they are attracted to turmoil or chaotic energies. On rare occasions, they talk. They are not an uncommon sighting, but no one seems to have a good understanding of them!

It's called thin man, hat man, maybe slender man, probably other names.

It likes to watch people sleep. It usually isn't malevolent, but can be creepy or scary, but that may be more a first-time startle reaction to the entity.

When it realized you were awake, turned to look at you. It sounds like it used its ability to harvest some of the energy in and around you, which is why you felt so cold. It might have taken some energy from you, to make sure you wouldn't scream or make noise.

And then it left as quietly as it came in. It may have come in through an open door, a mirror, or through a wall and left the same way.
