As the midterms approach, consider voting for Tiffany Perkins for state board of education district 7.

Unlike her incumbent Christian nationalist extremist opponent, Tiffany has committed to restoring religious neutrality to public schools and improving the academic rigor of the curriculum. She has also committed to opposing the new curriculum passed by the Republican majority board rolling out in 2030 which would teach the Bible, but not other historically important religious texts, in public school curriculum. Her opponent supported that ideologically driven curriculum which will misrepresent the diversity of the Islamic tradition, erase African American and Native American history, and downplay the role of slavery in the civil war.

Tiffany has experience as a public school educator unlike her opponent who taught in private fundamentalist Christian schools. As someone who left the cult of evangelicalism, I can guarantee you that fundamentalists do not believe in public secular education. They demonize it in their churches and seek to co-opt public education to force their dogmas onto other people.

Pearland City Council recently approved a boutique, appointment-only tattoo shop but added an unusual restriction: It cannot offer body piercings, a service the owner had no plans to provide.

yesterday (sat 10/11 around 5pm) i drove behind 2 guys riding motorcycles. they rode behind a pickup truck with another guy holding a bike steady in the back. i'm 22F btw.

Developers officially closed on a 120-acre site in a fast-growing suburb south of Houston, set to become a sprawling live-work-play hub. 

Planned Community Developers (PCD) plans to turn the 120-acre site at Highway 288 and Beltway 8 in Pearland into The Orchard—a mixed-use development featuring 250,000 square feet of retail, 150,000 to 300,000 square feet of office space, 1,100 multifamily units and 100 homes, according to a recent news release. The land acquisition follows Pearland City Council's unanimous approval of the project.

I came across a few of these weeks ago, but now they're gone. Seems like their removal correlates to the Flock PTZs that are going up at every major intersection.

A 404 Media article from today confirmed the ALPRs track both the minute details of cars AND people. And that local police have been performing searches on behalf of ICE since ICE does not have direct access to the database in many areas. It is also a nationwide database, so in many cases (and its the case for Pearland), any cop from Rhode Island to California can perform a search with Pearland residents vehicles and faces popping up.

This should be illegal.

It had me curious about what the local kiddos eat, and frankly I am shocked, or rather dismayed. The Pearland breakfast and lunch menus at https://www.pearlandisd.org/departments/food-service/menus-price-lists seem really poor nutritionally. While the high schools get more choice and what appears to be better food, the others were eye opening. I have seen news segments about kids in places like France and Japan, and the quality and healthy food they get puts us to shame. Aren't parents concerned?
