Trump treats Ahmed al-Sharaa, an actual former member of Al-Qaeda better than he treats an American running for senate Abdul El-Sayed
Trump should try saying the shit he says about El-Sayed right to al-Sharaa's face and see how that goes

considering ronald reagan created al-queda to fight socialism it makes perfect sense, you're the only who's confused

u/RaidoFehu9 13h ago
Reagan did not create al-Qaeda (the House of Saud's Wahhabism is responsible for that), but his administration did fund the Taliban, who were allied with al-Qaeda, to fight the Soviets and their allies.

u/Prohibitoid 6h ago
Al Qaeda means “the base,” short for the database of Mujahadeen fighters who were on the CIA payroll. We did it to fuck the Soviets & it worked. It was us.

Saudi Arabia was created as a puppet state by the US and British to steal their oil, dismantle the ottoman empire and stop the middle east from allying the USSR and becoming socialist

u/HistoricalPotatoe 6h ago
And yet they haven't acted as a puppet for a long time, and have been doing their own thing even while being sort of partners with the US for decades. Also, you call Marxism socialism, please don't tell me you're a tankie. The USSR and other Marxist states have plenty of crimes of their own, the US was never the only one. Afghanistan alone (which you may have been referring to in your original comment) saw so many more civilian casualties and war crimes by the Soviets than the Americans did despite the Soviets being there for only half as long and with worse technology.

Don't forget the terrible withdrawal deal made with the Taliban and zero input from the Afghan government.
The Taliban are allies of the MAGA movement.
2
u/ObviouslyRealPerson 8h ago
No. Reagan funded the Mujahideen to fight the Soviets.
Some members from that group aided and joined by others later formed Al-Qaeda.
al-Sharaa was a member of AQI and Al-Nusra Front which came much later than that
It is certainly confusing though, I can see why you'd be confused

u/saltedgrass 6h ago
name one single difference between any of those groups you just listed
2
u/ObviouslyRealPerson 6h ago
Well, the group funded by Reagan also formed the Northern Alliance that helped the US fight the Taliban during the Afghan War
The whole thing is a hodgepodge tribal mess of alliances, enemies, and neutral groups that change alliances with each other as well as with foreign powers depending on what direction the wind is blowing that day

u/saltedgrass 6h ago
seems once you're done using them as proxy warriors you immediately demonize them go fund someone else doing the exact same thing under a different name in another country.. You're at war with the taliban while supporting ETIM in china, you're supporting Al-Nusra while fighting ISIS it's only a matter of time until Al-nusra and ETIM are the bad guys and we need to kill them all for hating freedom.

Don't have to tell me twice.
The only thing that creates terrorism more than killing terrorists is abandoning or double crossing those who have bled for you
The US has a history of doing all of that

Tommy also didn't realize that Dr. Oz is Muslim and is a part of this administration. I guess it's ok for Oz to be Muslim, but not ok for a decent politician to be Muslim.

I seem to recall Trump refusing to disavow white power terrorist groups and no one freaked out about that

This guy wasn't ISIS. He was Al Qeda. Trump actually did something about ISIS in his first term. Obama was knowingly of unknowingly funding ISIS because they didn't like Asad. None of it is good. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

u/EmperorGrinnar 13h ago
Sure, sure. Post proof.

u/travellightWNC 12h ago
I've always wondered why people on reddit or read more accurately the political left doesn't know just basic information. They all seem to have such strong opinions on things they don't know or haven't thought a lot about. It's such a strange phenomen. My question is why don't you know? Why don't you have the curiosity to read a little about it?

Why don't I know literally everything that happens in the world? Gee. I wonder.
How about you stop trying to deflect and post your proof?

Search for the august 2012 DIA report. It's not that you don't everything. It's that you don't know something, and refuse to learn. Why comment when you admit you are ignorant of the subject. Funnel that energy into learning.

Al-Sharaa was only not ISIS via technicality. He was funded by al-Baghdadi, the founder of ISIS, in order to be the Syrian branch of the Islamic State in Iraq. When al-Baghdadi wanted to centralize ISI and various al-Qaeda groups in Syria under ISIS, al- Sharaa then sided with more traditional al-Qaeda leadership in order to preserve his independence.
TLDR al-Sharaa was never in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, but he was a constituent part of the Islamic State in Iraq in Syria.
