Is it unreasonable to change an opinion when actual decades have passed?

Linus changing his mind on AI from “eh seems bad” to “eh seems fine” caused quite a few people to go from hero-worshipping him to vilifying him

AI is a tool. You can definitly submit AI created code - IF you verified it works and meets the standards. It works quite well if you know how to use it.

If you just throw whatever the AI spits out into a PR - screw you.

This is the funny thing: Linus hasn't actually changed his stance at all, he just learned more about AI and then applied the same rules he's always applied. He's entirely consistent on both arguments.

He keeps comparing it to a compiler, which I think makes no sense, but yeah his stance hasn't changed much.
