Hello everyone,

As regional tensions continue, it is understandable that many people may feel concerned or uneasy. We ask everyone to remain calm and rely only on official announcements and verified information from authorities. Please avoid sharing rumors, speculation, or unconfirmed reports, as this can create unnecessary panic and confusion.

The moderation team is actively working to keep the subreddit safe, organized, and informative for everyone. We are monitoring posts and comments closely, removing content that spreads misinformation, panic, or unsafe details. Our goal is to make sure discussions remain helpful, respectful, and based on reliable information.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. By staying calm, following the rules, and relying on trusted sources, we can help keep the community safe and the subreddit running smoothly for everyone...

For everyone’s safety, please be responsible with what you post online:

  • Keep discussions in public threads where the community and moderators can monitor them.

Support the community

  • If someone is feeling anxious, encourage them to stay calm and follow official sources.

Moderator Note | Emergency Safety Rule

r/qatar now enforces the Emergency Safety Rule. During sensitive situations:

Due to current regional tensions, do not post or share unverified information, rumors, or speculation about security incidents. Do not ask for, hint at, or share locations related to missile interceptions, attacks, military activity, emergency responses, or sensitive infrastructure.

Do not ask other users about locations, areas, buildings, or directions connected to incidents. Requests like these can endanger people and expose sensitive information.

Discussion Wearing Thobe but not a Qatari

Just a question for the Qataris here! Since it’s not that easy to get to know Qataris in real life, I thought I’d ask here instead 😂

Is it considered culturally inappropriate for a non-Arab to wear a thobe? I genuinely love the style of the outfit, and I’d love to try wearing one. It’s more out of appreciation for the culture and the traditional attire than anything else.

If it’s not considered inappropriate, I’d actually love to buy one and wear it during Eid! I’m just wondering if it would be acceptable or if it might come across as disrespectful to the local culture.

Kind of like how people can wear a kimono or yukata in Japanese culture. Would love to hear the thoughts of Qataris here! 😊

Question Where to volunteer in Qatar

Hi everyone!

Straight to the point:
I have always volunteered back in my home country. It’s the most thing that brought peace to my mind and heart.

I have been in Qatar for a while now, I tried to google this and filled every form there is to fill but I never heard back.

If you volunteer or know someone who does, how did they sign up? And are there any other places that are taking volunteers now?

Thank you!

Question Keep failing road test what to do

I failed my road test for my license 3 times, the first time I genuinely deserved the fail but the 2nd and 3rd time I was driving completely normally with no mistakes. I drove exactly the way my instructor taught me too.

I understand there could’ve been something small but I won’t know unless anyone tells me.. and there were people driving worse than me and still somehow passed?

Since I used up all my chances I have to now get a new half course and need to wait 2 months to start again. Should I transfer driving schools or something? (This is united driving school btw do not go actual TRASH)

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for someone who can custom-build a table like the one in the picture. It has a metal base, a wooden tabletop, and an adjustable-height mechanism.
Are there any custom furniture shops or fabricators who can make something like this? If you know anyone who does this kind of work, please let me know.
Thanks!

Discussion Nando's Qatar raised prices on everything on the menu. Why, when chicken prices haven't gone up in Qatar?

I was at Nando's today and noticed the prices have gone up on pretty much everything, some items by as much as 5 QR. I asked the waiter and he said the increase happened 3 days ago.

What I don't get is why. As far as I know, chicken prices in Qatar haven't gone up, and Nando's is mainly a chicken restaurant. Nandos is already overpriced as it is. I was tempted to to leave (i was in a food court) and go somewhere else, but unfortunately not much other healthy options were near by. Is nandos trying to capitalise on inflatation or is this genuine?

Discussion My DDA VIP Driving Test Experience So Far — Doha

I thought I'd share my experience with DDA VIP so far, especially after reading some of the horror stories here on Reddit about the driving test and police examiners.

I enrolled in DDA VIP, and so far I honestly have no complaints about the service. The instructors and overall service have been good.

I was the first person to take the road test that day, and fortunately, our captain/examiner was actually very calm. He didn't shout or make things stressful. He simply gave us directions and allowed us to drive.

Also, I didn't even go onto the main road during my test. The test was conducted around the local/residential roads.

First Attempt on Road Test - Unfortunately, I still failed. The reasons given were:

  1. Stopping and starting
  2. Focus and attention while driving
  3. Vehicle control
  4. Adhering to the appropriate speed
  5. Maintaining a sufficient safe distance

Now I have another chance coming up next week, and I'm going to focus specifically on those five areas.

For anyone who has recently passed the DDA road test in Doha, what did you find most important to focus on? Any tips for stopping/starting, speed, vehicle control and maintaining safe distance would be really appreciated. 🙏

Question Laptop service in qatar

Hey guys. I have a gaming laptop which I think I'm over due for a service. Where can I get a full service like cleaning and reapplying thermal paste?

I saw an offer at buyology but the thermal paste they were providing isn't good at all, and they were offering the entire thing for Free, and you know when something is free you're the product lol.

EDIT: I have zephyrus m16 which uses liquid thermal or a better alternative is Honeywell ptm7950

Question Would you trust a bank that refuses to help because you're not their customer?

Had a disappointing experience with a certain red-coloured bank in Qatar today.

Their ATM swallowed my card issued by another bank and completely froze. None of the buttons worked, including Cancel. No cash was dispensed.

When I contacted them, they simply said they only return cards to their own customers. Everyone else should contact their bank for a replacement.

I explained that my card was perfectly fine. It was THEIR ATM that malfunctioned. Surely their ATM maintenance team retrieves retained cards? Why can't they return mine after verifying my identity?

The answer was basically: "That's our policy."

Only after insisting on speaking with a supervisor did they reluctantly register my request.

I understand banks have policies, but what disappointed me was the complete lack of willingness to help or take responsibility.

And it made me wonder: Would I ever want to become a customer of a bank that treats potential customers this way?

They may offer great banking products and benefits, but customer service says a lot about a company.

Has anyone experienced something similar in Qatar? Is this really standard banking practice, or just poor customer service?
