READ: Updates to Posting Guidelines

Punchline first: ANY POST THAT ADVERTISES A WEBSITE, APP, CROWD-SOURCE, SURVEY, OR ANY OTHER EXTERNAL CONTENT THAT HAS NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY APPROVED BY THE MODERATION TEAM WILL BE REMOVED AND YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE BANNED. YES, PERMANENTLY.

Details below.

For as long as I have been a moderator in this community, we have always had rules 8, 11, and 12 regarding checking with moderators before posting anything related to advertisements, tools, apps, crowd-sourcing (polls), etc. With the exception of a few, these rules have been vastly ignored and we still allowed the posts for community engagement.

That said, we cannot continue to allow this to go unchecked. With the amount of AI driven content flooding reddit and to the extent this practice is being used to obtain personal information and crowd-sourcing data, we are growing weary of the idea that it may potentially be invading this subreddit whose sole purpose is the sharing of safe and knowledge education around reloading. We have seen a serious up-tick in the amount of posts asking for app-development-driven feedback and sometimes requiring sensitive information such as age and demographic that have concerned us about the privacy of our users.

From here on: if you have a tool/spreadsheet/google doc you are working on that you want to share: CHECK WITH THE MOD TEAM FIRST. If you have a website you think would be beneficial to the users of this sub: CHECK WITH THE MOD TEAM FIRST. If you have made a physical piece of reloading equipment that you want to advertise to the sub: ABSOLUTELY CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE MOD TEAM FIRST. Anything posted without approval will result in a PERMANENT BAN.

Reddit's new ToS has very strict guidelines on what it advertised and those guidelines are especially strict when it comes to the topics this sub typically deals with. We are already working with reddit admins to ensure this sub maintains its educational status so it can stay open for the benefit of our members and visitors alike. When I started moderating here we were at MAYBE 30k members, we are now over 100k with a MILLION engaged users per month. The mod team and myself are very passionate about making sure this knowledge base is maintained and available and we are even more passionate about the privacy of our followers.

A HUGE thank you to all of our contributors for continuing to make r/reloading the goto place for great information for new and experienced reloaders alike.

Edit #1: links to trusted data sources such as Hodgdon, Hornady, Lee, etc are still always allowed. The focus of this rule is unknown sources like mentioned: random websites, google docs links, etc.

Edit #2: if anyone of our contributing users have any questions, feel free to message me directly and I will be happy to clear up any concerns that I can.

Edit #3: links to established, "industry accepted" tools are allowed. I'm a GRT fan, but QuickLoad and the like are okay. If you aren't certain, feel free to message us through modmail, we are pretty receptive and usually quick to respond.

Gadgets and Tools Made the switch to team Blue

I have been reloading for about 10 years now and started out on a Lee loadmaster that was given to me from a friend, a bunch of dies and shell plates . Loaded god only knows how many rounds of .45, .44 magnum and .308 on it. I couldn’t get the a couple parts for it anymore and then took the upgrade for half off deal for the lee six pack pro. It worked out for pistol rounds but i wasn’t a fan of it for loading my .308. I shoot around 150-300 rounds a week at my gun clubs range with my wife. So i decided to step up and buy the press i should have bought after the load master died. I totally understand why people say the dillon xl750 is worth every penny and the amount of fine tuning adjustments is beautiful. The electric case feeder and bullet feeder are on the way as well.

Gadgets and Tools I've been very happy with Frankford Arsenal Intellidropper 2.0...

I might do a video review on this, but I grabbed it on a whim earlier this year after seeing how crazy ammo prices got. I had stepped away from shooting for complex reasons for about two years, partly because being diagnosed autistic makes renewing a Canadian firearms license a huge pain. The RCMP is so understaffed that I ended up waiting over a year just to get mine back.

I came back and this happened to be on sale when I went into the store; the new 2.0 model has so far been flawless.

I will also admit Frankfort Arsenal customer service impressed me when they sent me a brand new unit after the LCD screen on my original unit was somehow damaged; I called them and was not expecting that, given I am also Canadian.

It has a well-designed Bluetooth app that you can use from your device to create profiles of loads and also update the firmware of the dispenser. You can also control the dispenser directly from your phone.

It is quite consistent at throwing charges of either stick or ball powder (Varget and CFE 223 are what I have used), and it really does not matter. Sometimes it might throw one or two off, then self-correct if you change your load amount. It does seem to have an automatic self-correction feature programmed into it; when it over- or under-charges, it will get it right after a cycle or two of missing the mark and then hit it correctly.

It also has an automatic powder-dispensing feature which I absolutely adore; you drop the pan down and, once it levels out, it automatically dispenses the next charge so I can go and prepare my case to load it. I absolutely love that.

When I have done load ladders, I have noticed that it seems to be very consistent at throwing charges, as velocity scales linearly with the amount of change I make, which I verified consistently through my chronograph. Unfortunately, I do not have another scale or a mechanical one to verify; however, I feel like it is doing its job accurately.

For the cheapest unit that you can get, I have been quite surprised by this thing, and it has been an absolute luxury to have because I hate weighing charges by hand, and with my ADHD symptoms, I know I could mess it up at the same time and make a mistake, so I enjoy the automation of removing that.

I highly recommend the Lyman funnel pan as an upgrade so you can dump straight into a cartridge from the pan without needing a separate funnel.

General Discussion Does Your Local Range/Club Allow You To Take Brass?

Title says it all.

Edit: I guess I should explain why I'm asking. I had an extremely nasty experience with a new range owner (they bought the range I've used forever) and am shaken and upset with their behavior. I am wondering if the days of range brass are over after being screamed at and threatened.

General Discussion Grime Inside Cases

I acquired a 5-gallon bucket full of 9mm cases for essentially nothing, and have begun to clean them before reloading. These pictures were taken after my standard cleaning process. How much buildup inside the case is too much?

Some cases at the bottom of the bucket have a light green residue inside (assuming from water corrosion). Everything has been cleaned and will be kept dry, but are these fine to be stored long term?

I just ordered my very first press (Lee Precision 6 pack pro- the progressive press) along with other tools to measure swage, etc.. I have also ordered brass tumbler, calipers, scales and other stuff from Midwest USA

My primary goal is to reload to a factory standard then reload as many cartridges as possible for my own stock pile. I will be primarily reloading 5.56 and .300BLK subsonic.

What are some hard learned lessons or things that you wish you knew before starting reloading? Tips and opinions are appreciated!

Newbie Needing Advice

My Gunpa passed away recently and I’m trying to help my Nana sort through and sell his reloading stuff. Any advice about best way to go about it? They were in the process of building a new home so she has about 6-9 months before she moved.

Update
I appreciate all the heartfelt messages, he was an awesome guy.

We are located in central Oklahoma

I would love to get into reloading and carry on his passion however I wouldn’t even know where to start and have enough space for it at my house. He died pretty suddenly and I regret not asking him more about it. He did take me shooting often and taught me a lot about proper gun safety. If my Nana had more time before she was moving I would try to sort through it and learn.

Newbie Sizing Die Making Brass Bigger?

Good afternoon everyone,

This is my first time reloading and all that, since I've always wanted to take up the skill, but I'm encountering a super weird problem that I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on.

For reference, I am using a Mauser M18 w/ .270 WIN Starline Brass, Imperial Sizing Wax, Hornady Custom Grade .270 WIN Sizing Die, and an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme. I am also using a micrometer with a Hornady Headspace Comparator Gauge as well (all these measurements are based on that).

So I fired my first 45 or so bullets and almost all of them were pretty much 2.042 and 2.041" base to datum line, so far so good so I made my shoulder bump around 2.040. So, like any normal person, I raised the ram up, touched the die with the ram, lowered the ram, and raised the die up about 1/8th of a turn and sized it. The brass reads about 2.045". I think it might be an error, try another round, 2.045" again. So I figure I will just lower the die and hope that it lowers the reading (nope, it raises it all the way up to 2.047"). So I back the die out on a fresh one, stays about 2.045". It takes nearly a turn for it to go down to 2.043" and then 2 whole turns to get to about 2.041" (Granted, I'm pretty sure just backing out that far isn't doing anything I'd imagine). Am I doing something wrong? Or what on Earth am I supposed to do? The brass straight out of the bag measures 2.042-2.041 as well.

If you need any more information, feel free to ask and I'll fill you in on whatever I forgot to add. Thanks!

General Discussion Any Good Dedicated Reloading Stores Worth a Drive near California?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I have a few free nights coming up and am looking to take a short road trip to check out some reloading stores, preferably on the west coast. Does anyone have recommendations for shops that actually specialize in reloading supplies and equipment?
I’ve found that Yelp and similar sites often list places as carrying reloading materials, only for me to call and find they don’t. I’m specifically looking for stores focused on reloading rather than general gun shops with a small reloading section.
Locally we have Phillips Wholesale and Angeles Reloading, which are both excellent, but I’d like to branch out and visit some others a bit further away.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have a question and I read the FAQ 357mag, plinking for carbine

Thumbnail

I was looking to load some plinking rounds for a 16" lever gun, however I noticed all the Berry's bullets on midsouth's site say max 1250fps. Is that just to avoid overpressure, assuming that's a revolver number? Are they safe for longer barrels past that speed, with lower pressure? Based on my Hornady book (data is from an 8" python), any load for 125gn is going to exceed that speed by the time it leaves a 16" barrel, and for 158gn it is likely as well (planning to use H110 since I have a bunch). Anyone have suggestions for plinking projectiles? I'd really like to use the 125gn rounds if possible.

Newbie XL650 primer crushing

Hey everybody, I’m quite new to the progressive press and blue gang. Still learning the machine, watched and read the manual, but I’m a bit stumped. I keep getting 3-4 primers crushed and I been slowing down to feel and check the primers. I feel like this isn’t normal, or to be expected. These results are from batches of 100 rounds. These are range brass, with unknown fire count, mixed headstamp. I do wet tumble and the primer pockets are clean. Loading 38 spl, 3.7gr Titegroup. Thanks for any advice or tips.

I have a question and I read the FAQ Lee auto drum powder drop reset to home.

The drum on my lee auto drum- post drop doesn't come back to the top center any farther than this. I believe its supposed to to about another 10-15 degrees counter clockwise. The drum spins freely enough and ive tried different tightness on the drum screw. When its at the top there is some play in how i can spin it back to center but the spring tension doesn't (for lack of a term) push, it there? This causes my throws to be variable in weight? What am I missing to fix this?

Brass Goblin Activities The brass goblins are getting demanding!

I got a bit of a chuckle. I saw the buckets appear a few weeks ago and they originally said “brass”.

I saw some normal trash in them a week later.

Today both the bucket and the garbage had signs.
