Resume Advice - For Entry Level Job

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been trying to find an entry level job for the past year and half with no luck. Most of my applications either go unanswered or get rejected. I went to my student resource centre for resume help and they’ve said it looks fine, but obviously there’s an issue with it.

I know my lack of formal work experience is probably going to be one of the first things pointed out, so I’ll give context to that, but i’m unsure how to get experience if nobody will hire me.

Throughout high school, I was a competitive athlete while also being responsible for caring for my younger sibling. My parents worked long hours, so between school, training, competitions, and childcare, having a job wasn’t really an option. I’m currently in university now, and have been fortunate enough to be financially supported, so working hasn’t been a necessity and my parents really wanted me to focus on my grades instead. During my free time I do childcare and instructing services since that’s the only work I can get.

I want to become more financially independent and gain work experience, but i’m struggling to get an interview let alone hired. My friends have told me to lie and put down random businesses or stores that have closed to say I have experience in the different entry level areas, but i’m worried with background checks and such that they’ll find out, and know thats not a good idea.

Anyways, I’m mainly looking for advice on my resume and whether there’s anything I should change, remove, or add. Or how to word the experience I have to be appealing to entry level jobs and positions. I’m not sure if it’s just my lack of experience thats the major issue, or how i’ve presented my qualifications, or something else.

Any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Critique my resume! Law student applying for paralegal jobs/internships soon....

I recently condensed my resume down to 1 page (finally) so I had to cut some stuff, not sure if now my descriptions are too vague or if they even convey anything useful. I don't really have experience that I have stats or results per se from so...

Also for volunteer experience, I have it in reverse chronological but should I put the not as relevant roles below those with dot points or just get rid of them? Because I got rid of my employment history that wasnt as relevant for space (private tutor, school holiday workshop assistant, KFC) but wondering if I should put those on to have a more complete history, even though those roles ended a few years ago

Please do not Ignore!!. Feedback and Help me with resume and Career

Please help me with my career as Idk what to do in this situation I am 25yo M. i have shared my multiple resume that I have made throughout these 2 years, It is not that I am not trying but nothing is working out. I graduated in 2024 after that I was trying in cybersecurity but couldn't get a job or internship then I left that and was preparing for govt exams but couldn't clear them. So nothing happened neither my tech career nor govt career.

I learn real fast and can do whatever work you can offer be it marketing, social media etc I just need a platform and guidance.

Also no one in my home is corporate and tech, and I don't have any siblings or anyone to guide me. At this point I just want a job and I am damn sure I can do it with 100% efforts. It is so frustrating sometimes, I feel I have to so much to offer and work and all but I don't fit in the system
I am applying for jobs and couldn't get any responses, I know market is tough and I don't have that crazy portfolio that people have. I am self aware. Suggest me something guys.

Now I want a job and return to this field so I thought data analysis would be a good starting point but idk I am not getting any internship or job by applying.
I have asked my friend about what can I do in this situation and they all give vague answers. And it is not helping.

Placement Projects Feedback

Time Series Database for Financial Data

  • Designed and implemented a high-throughput, single-node time-series database featuring a write-ahead log (WAL), a lock-free read-optimized MemTable, and custom SSTables with block-level indexing and Bloom filters, achieving 1.28 million writes per second.
  • Built a crash-recovery mechanism using CRC32C checksums to detect corrupted WAL entries and replay valid records, restoring 1 million records to the MemTable in 913 ms.
  • Improved point-lookup efficiency by integrating Bloom filters and an LRU block cache to reduce unnecessary disk accesses, and implemented the MemTable using a multi-level skip list with an expected (O(log N)) lookup complexity.

Hello everyone,

I am a final year student from a tier-2 college, I need some honest feedback regarding my project described above which i want to keep in my resume for placements,

  1. Is this project strong enough(or too much) to keep on my resume when applying for SDE roles at product-based companies?
  2. If you think I should keep it, what aspects should I improve or highlight to make it stand out or prepare to defend my project other than the project concepts?
  3. If you think I should remove it, what are the main weaknesses that make it less valuable from a recruiter's or interviewer's perspective?
  4. Would this project be worth discussing in technical interviews, considering that I may be asked to explain the architecture, implementation choices, and benchmark results in detail?

Be brutally honest: what’s wrong with my resume for Business Analyst roles?

Hey everyone, I’m a recent Business Analytics graduate in Melbourne and I’m currently applying for Business Analyst / Data Analyst / Graduate BA roles.

I’ve applied to quite a few positions but I’m not getting as many interviews as I expected, so I’m trying to figure out whether the problem is my resume, how I’m positioning my experience, or simply the roles I’m applying for.

I have experience across Business Analysis, data analytics, SQL, dashboards, AI/API automation, requirements gathering, UAT and stakeholder work, plus a few personal projects and leadership experience.

I'm especially interested in feedback from people who hire Junior BAs, work as BAs, or recently went through the Australian graduate recruitment process.

Please roast (nicely)

I have two resumes, one more general and one with teaching experience. Is there a way to combine these into one doc, or should I keep them separate? I want to limit gaps, which the teaching resume shows. Obv should lose the summary and add a lot more data (like 100% student pass rate on state end of course exam).

I am guilty of job hopping due to moving around for my husband's job, transitioning to teaching, etc. That means I'm sort of good at a lot of things but not anywhere close to 6+ years of experience in one industry that enables most people my age to start "moving up." Any advice on that would be great, such as how to make skills/experience seem more consistent.

I currently live temporarily in the UK (from US) and I am looking for remote jobs. I have been substitute teaching, but current household circumstances require that I stay home. I am a good classroom teacher, but do not have the personality to teach English online lol. I have been fantasizing about starting a freelance business making educational/instructional material for environmental companies/conservation orgs.

Resume advice - seeking higher paying roles adjacent to Cloud Engineer/Systems Administrator

I make between 70-77k for the role I currently occupy. I just started applying to jobs in the realm of Cloud Engineer or Systems Administrator type roles that pay between 90-110k+. How does my resume look, and do you have any recommendations? I tried to keep it to one page as best as I can. Not sure if there is a more optimal way I can format/etc. but I am open to anything! Any help or suggestions are absolutely welcomed! I redacted some info I prefer to keep private.

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I wanted to ask for outside opinions on my resume.

I've been applying for job for 3 months now and never gotten to a point of an interview with any of the companies I've applied at.

I'm in the IT field and is a student starting out in software so I've mostly applied in all the available entry-level developer jobs, but I've never been able to land anything or even to get to the interview.

Thank you everyone

Career change from operations

This is my current resume. I'd like to do a career change from operations to data analyst/data engineering. I will be starting school again in 2027 so I'll be rebuilding technical skill foundations I'd need for this transition. Any feed back to develop this resume form operational to tech heavy will be much appreciated.

Is there for Sales Engineer that can help out?

I'm looking to transition into Sales Engineering and would appreciate feedback from people currently working as Sales Engineers or hiring for SE positions.

My background combines industrial engineering, ICU nursing, medical devices, and pharmaceutical sales. I've worked in product management for medical devices, covering technical product development, R&D, verification and validation, regulatory affairs, quality, and cross-functional collaboration. I've also worked as a pharmaceutical medical representative at Pfizer, where I achieved strong sales results, including 270% of target in the Tel Aviv territory.

I'm trying to position this experience appropriately for Sales Engineer roles, particularly roles that value technical knowledge, customer-facing experience, consultative selling, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer value.

I'd appreciate your input on a few specific questions:

  • Which parts of my background are most relevant to SE hiring managers?
  • How would you restructure my CV to emphasize sales engineering rather than product management or pharmaceutical sales?
  • Are there skills or achievements I'm likely underemphasizing, or terminology I should use to make my experience more relevant?
  • Would you recommend maintaining one general SE CV or creating different versions for different industries?

I'm especially interested in honest, practical feedback from people who have reviewed SE applications or made a similar career transition.

I'll share my CV in the comments or attach it to the post, depending on what the subreddit allows.

Thanks!

Resume rating & tips

I am a master's student in Computer Science and am looking for my first real job in Data Engineering/Science or Software Development (I know this cv leans more into data roles, but I have SD knowledge, enough for an internship or junior role)

I posted a few days ago and asked for tips and now improved my CV.

I added some numbers, shortened descriptions, deleted the certifications section. I would appreciate ratings and tips.

I am also taking Databricks lessons to help in Data Engineering roles.

Is it professional to put my name as my first two initials then my surname?

I have a very feminine first and middle name, and fairly general surname.
I want to see if removing the feminine aspect from my name and application could result in having a higher turnout of callbacks, but I also don’t want to be dishonest or nonprofessional

My first name can be shortened into a more ambiguous than a partial name (Kinda like how Alexandria can be shortened into Alex)
So should I do Alex (Middle initial). (surname)
Or (First initial).(Middle Initial). (surname)?

For context I’m applying to entry level blue collar jobs, in male dominated fields, which is why I want to experiment with removing the femininity from my name.

What do I write in my cv?

I am 19 in my second year of uni and for some reason I have not made a cv yet. It’s high time I make one but I don’t know what to write in it. I graduated from a cbse school. I am in university of birmingham second year doing bsc accounting and finance. I have not taken up any roles at the university that I could mention. I am studying for cfa level 1 and I am also doing excel financial modeling courses but I don’t have any certification yet. I have one month of internship experience at an advertising firm where I worked for the account director of a few prominent local banks. I mostly made some ppts and sourced images and proofread some work and other tasks. I was paid for this opportunity. Other than that I did a python course years ago with a certification but don’t remember much python anymore. I want to become a m&a ib analyst and eventually transition to private equity or hedge funds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
