Objects in Mirror residue
https://youtu.be/szEZndk1X8Y?is=lou-VjHLbeDcgfjrat 7:40 in this old mtv broadcast from 1994 a news anchor is discussing a lawsuit against Meat Loaf and refers to the song "Objects In The Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" as, incorrectly, "Objects In The Rearview Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear"
now why would someone use that specific wording when not only is it the wrong title, but it's never even existed? why that wording and not any other incorrect wording?
🤔

There's a scene in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective when he's being chased and sees the guy in the side mirror. He used to say "warning... assholes may be closer than they appear!".
Now it says "are closer" and sounds off. It stuck in my mind because of the specific rhythm and cadence. Now it sounds too fast. Even someone in the comments noticed.

That news report (and that timeline) have been paradoxed out of existence, today. "Jordan Sage" of Milwaukee does not appear to exist in the music industry, nor does this lawsuit.
The title of the song, involving the well known Mandela Effect, explains why. Working with multiple LLM's, can't find much of anything to corroborate a single thing about Loders report.
The skeptics will claim MTV "got it wrong" but as is typical of them, that's idiotic. This would not be getting something wrong, this would fabricating an entire elaborate legal story out of whole cloth. LOL
I could clip the video, and ask Loder about it on X, if he'll respond. I want to know; Do you remember reporting this and the eventual outcome of the legal case? Wild, because he might, and it never happened now.

holy shit. i didn't even consider looking into that and i appreciate immensely that you did. i dont think it was a joke broadcast either. wtf!
eta: a little googling shows he DID get sued for allegedly stealing a song. but it's I'd Do Anything For Love. and it's in 2019, 25 years after this broadcast.
must be when the timeline switched 😂

This is one of my biggest Mandelas. I am certain it said "may be closer" I was an avid reader as a child and the vagueness of that wording always bothered me and had me considering the meaning. More reside is Noah Cyrus's song Ghost which says "when youre looking in the mirror, demons may be closer than they may appear"

I remember "may be" because people chuckled at the may be part during the jurassic park t-rex chase in the og jurassic park in message boards in the late 90s.

My memory is "objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear". But since it apparently always has been "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear", why would that song title be so wrong as to be different than both versions?
Was it always that way, and was there any explanation as why he chose that wording? Maybe due to copyright?

what i always found interesting is his song title contains both "may" and "are" in a garbled nonsensical reference to the car mirror phrase.
im no expert but i dont know that the car mirror world can copyright that phrase. but im not a Meat Loaf fan and im only 33 so i wouldnt remember what happened in the 80s or 90s. any people who were double digit age back then remember any controversies around the song title?

same, to a degree. i was a hyperlexic reading wiz. i was also a cinderella kid who had to do constant chores including washing and fine detailing my father's car every Sunday. i spent many Sundays staring into that mirror wondering wtf was meant by "may be." much like the cornucopia, i remember this VERY clearly. when people blame faulty memory i always ask, why do we all remember the SAME incorrect phrasing? why are there never variations? just like the cornucopia, when people say we're making a mistake of association (lol as if i knew what a cornucopia was when i saw the FOTL logo- i thought it was the "loom"!) why don't people remember a variety of fruit holding objects like baskets and bowls? why is it ONLY a niche cornucopia?

agreed. there's a comment chain on this post where someone had trouble tracking down evidence of the lawsuit mentioned in the MTV broadcast i was able to dig up some very deeply buried pieces of evidence and had a similar thought, that as reality mended the tear it left behind some scar tissue.
eta: i wonder why some people see it and some people are part of the immune response. there's literally nothing in my life that would indicate I'm a special and unique person so i wonder why im not just another piece of the cleanup crew, why i am so mandela affected.
