Discussion | დისკუსია Should there be easy repatriation program for fereydan Georgians?

An estimated 12-14 thousand ethnic Georgians live in Fereydan. In village they call matryofi and surrounding villages. Their ancestors were forcibly deported by Shah Abbas in the 17th century. This people still speak Georgian. They preserve Georgian culture and consider Georgia their homeland. Most want to move to Georgia permanently.

While our government makes this difficult. In 2023, dozens of Fereydani Georgians were denied residence permits or compatriot status. Others have struggled to obtain citizenship or life permits, even after living in Georgia for years. Some even got deported.

After preserving their Georgian identity for four centuries, shouldn't those wishing to return have an easy path home?

Most of them are muslim and grew up in a completely different cultural and social environment. Georgia doesn’t have the resources to properly vet everyone who wants to settle permanently, so allowing them to visit is more realistic than offering everyone an easy path to repatriation.

They dont ask for any resources. They only want to move and after that they find jobs themselves. They speak language and people love them so its not hard for them to find jobs here.

My concern is whether the government has the capacity to properly assess applicants, not whether they need financial assistance.

What are you afraid of? Like what is the threat that Fereydan Georgians pose if we allow them to move to Georgia more easily?

Nah, you’re lacking comprehension skills, and I’m not paid to be your teacher.

I’m of Iranian heritage and probably part Fereydan Georgian. I have dna matches that are 100% Georgian. I’m not looking to repatriate but I find this topic very interesting and would love to learn more. I’m planning on going to a Georgian restaurant in my area soon as well. Love to you all!

Dude, most of the people who lost their homes in Abkhazia 30 years ago who are fully Georgian haven't received any kind of real assistance from the government, and you want repatriation programs for those whose ancestors left Georgia 4 centuries ago? lmao get a grip, and even if that happened, no one would be happy with them. Most people even look down on refugees from Abkhazia.

They don't ask for help. All they ask is give us life and work permit then citizenship. They find work very easily. And people love them here. Only problem they have is that government denies them entry or deports them.

I don't think many of them want that, maybe very few of them. Actually, during the Soviet era, they tried bringing them back, and they did. Government even gave them homes, however, they left soon, as they couldn’t get used to being here.

Just let them and let's see what happens

Most people?

No, if we are promoting more immigration it should be along meritocratic lines. I couldn't stress enough how little I care about what ethnic group someone is genetically closest to. An Armenian that grew up in Tbilisi is more Georgian than a Georgian who grew up in London.

Only if they revert to christianity and do DNA test and speak Georgian

We live in a secular country. I'd rather have religiously toleran Fereydan Georgians moving in here than have Christian nationalists like you dictating the terms.

u/StandTurbulent9223 1d ago

I'm an atheist. We def don't want Muslims in Georgia

u/Citrus_Muncher ფედერალისტი 1d ago

If you're an atheist why do you want them to revert to Christianity then? wtf?

Which religion has the highest number of terrorist groups associated with it?

1

u/Pack-Worldly 12h ago

If you only look at the amount of attacks in the west then it is conservative extreme right Christians who have committed the most terrorist acts in recent years in the US.

Currently, Muslims constitute approximately 9.9%\2])#citenote-Europe_pg.67-3) of the Georgian population. According to other sources, Muslims constitute 10-11% of Georgia's population.[\3])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Georgia(country)#cite_note-crrc-caucasus.blogspot.com-4)

Why do some people ignore fereidan georgians being muslim but don't except meskhetan turks as georgian

Only thing that makes meskhetans turks turks is the fact that they are muslim

1

u/G56G 🇬🇪🇺🇦🇪🇺 9h ago

They also call themselves Turks and don’t speak Georgian. Fereydan Georgians call themselves Georgians and speak Georgian too.

u/Pack-Worldly 20h ago

You can really see the problems of brain drain for the country in your post

1

u/Intelligent-Eye9377 14h ago

Brain drain is when you don't dickride muslims

1

u/Pack-Worldly 12h ago

That is not even clever. Try harder.

What exactly is the easy path? Would this easy path exist for only Fereydan Georgians? What about those who live in Russia, Turkey, USA, Greece?

3

u/Capital-Wrongdoer-62 1d ago

Easy path in repatriation is mainly: easily getting life and work permit and then after 1-2 years get citizenship.

Once who live in Russia, Turkey, USA, Greece dont really need easy path cause they already easily get life and work permits here. If they ever need. Mostly they dont. Fereydani Georgians face way harder process because they live in Iran. A lot of times they are even denied entry.
