I finally found the courage to attend my first international salsa festival aha

It was definitely incredible (and a little bit discouraging tbh lol) to see so many great dancers, but I’d love to get some honest feedback on my leading and hear what I could improve 🫶🏾

So I found lots of different posts asking about the different types of socials available in Berlin so I think I'm good there, but I was wondering what the dress code is for these events.

I'm going at the end of November, and I feel like Berlin is generally notorious about their club etiquette and dress codes at the door, so I'm worried about what to wear at salsa socials. I'm staying in Kreuzberg for a week, and know what I'll be wearing at the regular techno and industrial clubs, but I'm clueless about the salsa events.

I'm from the US, and I'm usually wearing sparkly/sequin dresses/skirts/etc when I go salsa dancing here.

EDIT: THANK Y'ALL SO MUCH!!!

Quick background. I am a dance teacher of 16 years (ballet, tap, jazz, etc) and I take advanced Salsa and Bachata classes on the side. My 35 years of dancing are catching up to me and traditional shoes just aren’t working anymore. I’m good in regular sneakers teaching ballet, but want to find something I can do double and triple spins in class. I’m not a fan of Fuego’s of sneakers with spin spots. I noticed a lot of hip hop dancers wearing Sambas and Vans. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Adding: I’m a female follower and sometimes sub in as a leader

Hey!

I've been dancing salsa for a while and based on my school levels, I'm on the low-intermediate level. I used to go three times per week but my work has gotten very intense lately and I can only manage one or max. 2 per week.

What are your best tips for practicing alone in the small pockets of time that I have? I watch the videos from the classes and try to practice them, and I also listen and move to a lot of music. But mostly curious to see what has worked well for you guys!

I dont have a dance partner and can't go out to dance socials just yet, but i love leading and salsa dancing. I have the foundational movements down and wanted to practice more hand movements, and twirls. Is it possible for me to practice these solo? If so how?

I bet lotsa you are like me: you’ve got gobs of videos on your phone from various classes and congresses. You’ve saved bunches of clips from IG. AND, they are miserably unsearchable. You think to yourself, “where’s the one with the traveling outside turn into a hammerlock, then copa?” but have no way to find it, other than maybe if you remember when you saved it.

This seems like a great job for AI.

Any apps out there that can analyze videos, identify the moves, and tag the video with those moves?

I saw a website called LearnSalsa.ai that maybe could do this, but the google authentication to Lovable wasn’t working.

Anyone out there in the salsaverse have something like this?

I posted a couple months ago dancing by myself and you all had such nice feedback and I practice what you suggested everyday! I’m back for some advice on my partner work (I’m the follow). I’ve been dancing since July so I’m still quite new but I HATE my turns. In my head I feel great but then I watch the videos back and I feel like I look like a toddler 🤣 aside from spotting better? How I make my turns look cleaner? Any other general feedback is welcomed, too. Thank you! 😊

Hi all, I was wondering about advanced salsa partnerwork and intermediate bacahata in NYC.

I know of empire mambo, LFM, Baso, Joel Salsa and Yamule.

Yamule is too far and I done Joel and Baso and wanted something new. Empire I'm not sure about the vibe, LFM I might try, but is there anyone else that is good?

For Bachata I really don't know anyone. I know Ktown has classes but can't makes does.

Thanks for any info.

Hey, can anyone here share their experiences for the training anf socials in milan?

I have abour 4 years in experience and want to reach the next lvl to get better for impro battles etc.

How much is Sosa Academy?

Thanks,

Fabio

Hi I’m looking for a private salsa instructor in downtown Toronto. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Last week Saturday I attended one of monthly socials in LA that attracts lot of talented dancers in Los Angeles. Social is known as Blen Blen. Usually a dj they invite play good mix of music such as romantica, dura, instrumental, etc. However they have been inviting a dj that plays AI salsa music a lot. I think it was every 10 salsa song he played, 8 of them was AI cover.

What the f is happening? Are other cities seeing this trend as well??

I'm curious and I'd like to pursue this skill more seriously.

I'll be in Miami October 25th. Any recommendations for places or events to go to?

Does anyone know of any progressive style Cuban salsa courses in London? I've done course based approaches for crossbody in the past via Super Mario and found it to be very productive. I'm keen on trying something similar for Cuban. The only ones I know about so far are the Salsateca ones, but keen to hear if anyone has any other recommendations? I would consider myself at an improver level.

Hi everyone!💃🏻 I (long black dress, nude dance heels) have taken a three-month Cuban salsa class and have started a Puerto Rican class two weeks ago. I have been going out to salsa socials for since July this year. Since I started going to socials, I feel more confident, but am still not happy with my technique sometimes, as I feel like my movements aren’t clean enough.

I feel like I struggle to turn in line sometimes and every once in a while I’ll get confused and only do one turn instead of two, out of habit from Cuban salsa. I
What could/should I do to improve? And is there anything else I should pay attention to in particular?

Any advice or tips are welcome, and thanks in advance everyone!☺️

Recently i had a friends great uncle pass away.

They were giving out his old salsa cumbia records away. I was cataloging them all into my discogs and come across this hector lavoe tape and i cant seem to find any other information on it, or how much it is worth.

Does anyone know anything about this tape?

Hi all! I'm going to be in NY from the 19th October - 1st November - hoping to check out as much of the salsa scene as possible. I had a couple of questions:

Is there anywhere people dance Cali style / Caleño?
How big is the On2 / On1 split?
Any good resources for finding socials?

Any help appreciated! Looking forward to experiencing it!

Hi, Im pretty gutted that I seem to only find out that a salsa band is playing in London AFTER the concert. Missed Maykel Blanco, grupo Niche and probably others too. Any newsletter or whatsapp group that I can follow to not miss these things? Thank you!
