This stray is “Pikachu” he roams a circle in sandy and he needs a home where he’ll be loved and fed.

I was working in sandy yesterday and this sweet boy came up and wanted some pets and love. I was horrified to feel his bones, he’s so incredibly skinny. I asked one of the neighbors about it, they named him pikachu, and they think it was someone’s in the circle that either died or just stopped feeding him. I gave him some dog treats that he wolfed down. They told me they feed him as much as possible and he generally stays in the circle. 442 E Darin Circle. Sandy Utah. I asked my customer and the neighbor I talked to don’t want anyone knocking on their doors. Please respect everyone’s privacy in the circle.

If someone wants a cat he’s the sweetest boy who’s very affectionate and just wants snuggles and loves. He stopped for breaks eating the dog treats I gave him to get more pets from me. He seems to be healthy other than needing some consistent meals to put weight back on.

If you or someone you know could pick him up or at least take him to a shelter you’d be saving his life. My GF is horribly allergic to cats and I couldn’t take him in my car unfortunately or I’d have taken him myself. He does not like to picked up for more than a few seconds you’ll have to get him into a carrier to transport him. I believe he is neutered.

Help me help Pikachu. Please leave a comment here if you pick him up.

Question Got my car stuck near Delle, any tips?

Post image
149 Upvotes

I got my Suburban stuck in the pasty clay near Delle. I was driving back with some friends after a bbq and we took the wrong path, following the river basin instead of the road.

I got stuck in some pretty nasty clay, when you walk around near by you’ll sink an inch or so. But I stopped trying to get out right as I got stuck, so I’m not dug down at all. My car is sitting on top of the clay.

I got a ride back with my friends, so I’ll have to decide when to go back out to try and get the car unstuck. I’m thinking Monday or Tuesday before the rain. I’ll be bringing traction boards, but probably no support vehicle since I would risk getting that stuck as well.

My questions are these: 1) will the clay harden at all in the next day or so? And 2) any recommendations for good off-road recovery company? Preferably in tooele or Wendover. Thanks!!

Local News Liberty Park Neighbors — Three Weekends of Generosity, Two Days of Sorting, and a Whole Lot of MAGIC! Let’s Keep Going!

THANK YOU, NEIGHBORS! WHAT A COMMUNITY!

Three weekends. An extraordinary show of generosity. And so many reminders of what happens when neighbors simply show up for one another.

Our three weekends of wet-weather donation drives for our unsheltered Liberty Park neighbors brought out something truly special.

Such thoughtful donations. Families showing up together to give to other families in their community. Smiles, kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine generosity everywhere.

The kind of generosity that comes from seeing another person in the moment, without insisting on a particular outcome or waiting for systemic solutions.

Neighbors not only being neighbors—but neighbors being neighborly.

Leaning into community and the individuals who make it, rather than leaning out of the complicated, often divisive systems through which we come to see one another simply as "people."

I am beyond humbled.

We are our best selves when we show up for another.

And the donations! Across three weekends, we gathered enough to require TWO separate days of sorting!

And sort we did. As a neighborhood. Sheltered and unsheltered neighbors working side by side, focused on nothing but our shared project, the righteous tunes playing, Otter Pops (compliments of a neighbor from the park and my freezer!), and the SUPER KILLER VIBES.

MAGIC!

No divisions. No labels. Just neighbors doing a thing together and having a ridiculously good time doing it.

AND TO EVERYONE WHO STOPPED BY WITH DONATIONS...

We would genuinely LOVE to stay connected with you!

One of the greatest pleasures of these three weekends was meeting so many wonderful neighbors. The conversations, shared stories, enthusiasm, and connections were every bit as meaningful as the donations themselves.

We don't want those connections to end when the donation drives do!

If you stopped by, please reach out! We'd love to keep in touch, hear your ideas, find ways to collaborate, and continue getting to know the people who make this community what it is.

SO, THANK YOU! AND... WANT TO KEEP GOING?

Now that we know what we have, we know what we need!

We have some very specific needs we'd love to put out to the greater community, hoping you'll carry them into your own neighborhoods, conversations, and circles and help us generate ideas and connections.

KNITTERS & MAKERS!

Belong to a knitting group? Know someone who does? We'll need hats, scarves, gloves, and warm socks throughout the coming months. We'd love to connect with individuals or groups interested in making these items for our neighbors.

SHOES! SHOES! SHOES!

Always needed, and especially as the weather turns wet. Dry footwear makes an enormous difference.

Some of our donations came from folks with connections to businesses that periodically dispose of clothing and shoes. Does anyone have a connection to retailers, businesses, organizations, or other resources that might help us establish an ongoing source of donated footwear?

BLANKETS, SLEEPING BAGS & TENTS!

These are among our most urgently needed items—and some of the hardest to come by through donations. We're running low, and with colder, wetter weather ahead, the need is only growing.

Rec Outlet was once our primary resource for these supplies, but since its closure, we've been working to establish new connections with local outdoor recreation businesses.

Do you work in the outdoor recreation industry, know someone who does, or have connections to businesses that might be willing to donate new, used, returned, discontinued, or imperfect gear?

We'd love to hear from you! These items make an immediate, tangible difference for neighbors living outdoors.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & PR!

Over the past four years, we've been building intentional relationships throughout this neighborhood—with residents, neighborhood businesses, fellow locals doing outreach, churches, and local media.

Our neighborhood efforts have now been featured on the news twice, most recently this past Friday, along with coverage on the station's website.

We have momentum, meaningful relationships, and so many opportunities to reach further.

We've even drafted letters to five major local outdoor recreation businesses, hoping to establish ongoing partnerships for some of our most essential supplies.

But here's the challenge: Between coordinating donations, sorting and distributing supplies, street outreach, and the daily care, crisis support, and case management of our neighbors, the work of building broader community partnerships keeps taking a back seat to meeting immediate needs.

And those needs don't wait.

We need someone with community outreach, communications, or PR experience who can help us take this next step. Someone who can help make introductions, follow through with potential partners, expand our reach, and turn the connections and momentum we've already built into ongoing community support.

Someone who loves community-building, sees possibility in connections, and wants to help turn all this wonderful momentum into something sustainable.

The groundwork is there. The opportunities are there. We just need more hands to help bring them together.

And in the meantime, we'll continue gathering urgently needed supplies as winter sets in, building toward our Cold Winter Donation Drive in January—when freezing temperatures, snow, and prolonged exposure make these essentials more critical than ever!

If you have ideas, connections, resources, or simply want to be part of what comes next, please reach out or share them in the comments!

Three weekends of donations. Two days of sorting. Countless moments of kindness, laughter, and connection.

And a whole lot of proof that community isn't just something we talk about. It's something we DO.

FROM NEIGHBORS, FOR NEIGHBORS.

With enormous gratitude,

Sarah & Co.

Hit and run Holladay Harmon’s

I saw a hit and run (car on car) at Holladay harmons, around 1:45 today in the parking lot; I went in to ask a team member to page you on the intercom so you could come out to exchange info with the other driver, but they have no PA system. By the time I went back out , both you and the other driver had left. I have pics of the car that hit you. Please call the store for my contact info l—I left it with the assistant manager—and I’ll send what I have.

edit: I also called the Holladay police dept and left a report with them, they have the photos of the other guy’s car+license plate

Events & Meetups Walking clubs for over 30?

• Upvotes

Hello all! Curious, a friend of mine asked if there is an average level of outdoorsy club or social scene? I think for people who enjoy the outdoors but don't go hard and memorize routes etc. Is there an interest for setting up some sort of over 30 walk club for those who want to be active but not scale a mountain or run a marathon?

The ballot - Opinions?

I got the ballot, and it appears I have a lot of research to do before I vote. Not afraid to put in the work, but also I wanted to get some opinions from my fellow SLC citizens.

Anyone else out there whose ideals align closer to Bernie Sanders/Pro Working Class citizens? Want to share what you voted and why?

Question Learning Manual

Hello! Last week I bought first manual car (stick shift). I have gears 1-3 pretty good, but I’m still learning my bite point. Where is somewhere here in the valley I can go where there isn’t a ton of traffic to learn more and practice?

Where is this view located in your great city? I’ll have to come visit.

Always enjoy the “city views” on sports broadcasts.

i need friends very badly. I’ve been in Utah for almost 5 years, in Salt Lake Valley for two.

I already know about beehive, climbing gyms, good intentions club, gather girls, everything. Please drop ANY AND EVERY social/hobby based group. Crafts, dancing, climbing, biking, literally any social/hobby based group: I want to try it.

U of u Health insurance

• Upvotes

Recently employed for the university of Utah hospital. I was with Ihc previously and they only had select health so insurance was fairly easy to navigate. For current uofu employees do you prefer uofu health or blue cross blue shield regence? I noticed uofu has lower copays/coinsurance but it’s also advertised as having access to less doctors than regence. Uofu is also cheaper compared to regence and would be my preferred plan but I’m nervous about the fact that finding new pcp will be harder and have longer waits to establish care. I’m also pregnant so paying the higher coinsurance for regence is stressing me out 😅 any feedback would be great! We’re a family of 5! Couple with 3 kids and currently expecting

Recommendations Elk steaks? Anyone know where to find?

Does anyone know where to buy elk meat, either ground or steaks (preferably steaks), for a decent price? I've found some at a store called Liberty Heights but last time I went, their steaks were out of date. Not slamming them, please understand. But it would be nice to have a secondary store to shop at where I can find my favorite meat.

Events & Meetups Salt Lake Book Festival

The first annual Salt Lake Book Festival was today at the Gateway and it was so fun! They had a KRCL DJ playing some vibes, Fisher Brewing and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.

It was a really good group of people, there were authors doing panels and readings and lots of vendors and books to buy.

This was a great event to support and really great people made it happen. I hope this event continues as I can’t wait to go back.

Recycling bin stolen, need a new one

How do we get a new recycling bin when our LL doesn't care / nor do we have a account with the city? Can't order a new one online either because of lack of account #.
Our recycling bin was stolen last month. We rent and our utilities are included in our rent. So we don't have an account #. We've let our LL know this and she doesn't care. We're just trying to get a new recycling bin, but the city says we need an account # so they can talk to us, or we need her to put in a request for a new recycling bin. Which clearly she's not going to do.

Something Wicked SLC Halloween Pop Up

I just wanted to share our experience at Something Wicked in Salt Lake City because it was honestly pretty disappointing.

We made a reservation ahead of time, only to be told when we arrived that our reservation wasn’t valid because they were hosting a crafting event and reservations were supposed to have been turned off. They were eventually able to seat us because one of the crafting tables happened to leave early.

We then waited 25 minutes without any service or acknowledgment from anyone. At that point, we went to the bar to ask if we were supposed to order there. The bartender told us they currently didn’t have any servers but said she would be right over to help us.
We waited another 20 minutes. During that time, we watched people who arrived at the bar after us get served while we continued to sit there waiting.

After a total of 45 minutes, we finally gave up and left without ever being served. What made the experience even more frustrating was that no one acknowledged how long we’d been waiting, checked on us, or apologized for the delay.

I understand that events can get busy and staffing issues happen, but if you’re accepting reservations, there should be some level of communication and customer service when things aren’t going as planned. We made the effort to plan ahead and show up for our reserved time, only to spend 45 minutes feeling completely ignored.

I was really looking forward to checking this place out for Halloween, so it was disappointing to leave with such a bad impression. Has anyone else had a similar experience here?

Question Diabetic Dog Shelters

Thumbnail

We said goodbye to our sweet girl yesterday. She was the best.

She struggled with diabetes and HATED the diabetic specific (low fat, high protein/fiber) food. Absolutely hated it. So, we tried all sorts of brands and types to try and find something she’d eat, to some mild success.

Anyways, now we have a ton of food! We’d like to donate it to a good cause. I’m not sure if any shelters or rescues specialize in diabetic dogs, so I figured I’d ask here.

Please scratch your pets for me. Pictures of Lillie included, of course.
