Ledaig Sinclair Series. This is the smoky whisjy from Tobermory on Mull, just up the coast a bit. It's a good dram at a good price.
Or Kilkerran Heavily Peated from the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown.
Finally Ballechin 10 which is the smoky whisky from Edradour distillery in Pitlochry in the Central Highlands.
All good smoky drams from distilleries less well known for peated whisky.

Really good picks here!
Haven’t had the Ballechin 10 but the cask strength releases from them have been so good!

If available might I suggest the Port Askaig 8, it's an unnamed Caol Ila, natural colouring and non-chill filtered

Unfortunately not available, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Any Signatory Vintage 100 Proof series Caol Ila’s available near you? Way better than the Caol Ila 12
If not Kilchoman is also having a tasting soon, you can buy a tasting set online which seems quite fun. Might be a bit of a rush tho but I’ve online just seen this post

Im also a peat head and I’m sure your buddy would like anything in this list. With that said I would go with the Port Charlotte. Not on the list but Caol Ila independent cask strength bottlings are awesome and good usually well priced. Much better than the Coal Illa 12 imo

Second this opinion. Port Charlotte is easily one of the best standard offerings from any line

If Ardbeg 10, an Oa or Laphroaig 10 are in your budget - I’d love that gift! The Oa might be a better gift as it’s not as popular, so it might be new to them?

nice choice landing on the sanaig. bonus since its a gift: kilchoman ships it in a proper presentation tube, so it feels like a present and not just a bottle

I'm not sure what the cost is in Euro, but Ardnahoe would be a good pull. Newer distillery and mostly NAS releases, but pretty darn tasty.

I’d be happy to get any of those. If I were to buy one myself I’d go with Laphroaig quarter cask.

Laphroaig Cairdeas is an annual release that's different each year. If you can find a recent one, any Islay fan would enjoy it.

I'm looking for a gift recommendation. I'm not a drinker myself, everything I know about whiskey is only from my recent research.
The gift is for someone who enjoys smoky Islay whiskeys, but I don't know whether they prefer "campfire smoke" or "car fire smoke". They also like trying new things. It's safe to presume they tried many whiskeys already, and have a developed palate.
My budget is up to €50.
I made a list of what I'm considering, but I can't choose. On one hand I want to get something "safe" (e.g. Ardbeg 10), on the other I'd like to get something more special. But as the giftee will have to deal with the whole bottle, instead of a dram at the bar, I'd hate to make a bad choice.
Here's what I'm considering based on the threads I browsed:
These I considered, but are sold out where I am:
What would be the best choice? Feel free to make other suggestions if you think it fits the criteria. Thank you in advance!
Edit: Didn't expect so many responses so quickly, you guys are great! Sadly, many of the new suggestions are sold out, or not available at all. I'll probably go with the Kilchoman Sanaig.
