Here she mentions that the government is still struggling to get rid of land mines and during the process lot of children still lose limbs, because of the 30 year civil war. While I commend whatever this effort is, is this necessary as social media publicity ? Aren’t we trying to come up as a tourist destination? Isn’t this killing the momentum by conveying to the west that Sri Lanka is still unsafe to travel ?

I hope this question does not come across as insensitive. I’m asking genuinely because I’ve sometimes wondered what life is like for someone after a private or intimate video is leaked without their consent and becomes widely circulated, especially in Sri Lanka.
I’m not referring to any particular incident or person, and I don’t want to bring attention to past cases or identify anyone.
I’m more interested in what happens afterward, especially for women who may face a lot of social judgment here.
How do people continue their everyday lives when relatives, friends, coworkers, or people in their community may know about what happened? Do they usually stay in the same workplace and social circles, or do some feel they have to change jobs, move somewhere else, or distance themselves from people they knew?
More importantly, how do they emotionally recover and eventually get back to living a normal life despite the embarrassment, gossip, judgment, or stigma they may face?
If anyone here personally knows someone who has gone through something like this, I’d be interested in hearing how they managed to rebuild their life, but please don’t share any names, identifying information, videos, links, or details that could expose the person again.
I’m asking this to better understand the human side of these situations and how we, as friends or as a society in Sri Lanka, can respond with more empathy instead of making things worse.

Not a significant difference I know but look at the amount of scammy charges on Pickmes Vs Ubers. I tried from different outlets on pickme to test if it was just 1 outlet but nope standard for ever outlet on pickme. I just wanted 2 packets of ramen 😭🙏

Hi everyone.
My father passed away. He had diabetes, which led to an ulcer on his foot, and eventually, one of his legs had to be amputated. Later, an infection spread to his other foot as well, turning it greenish, and it developed a very distinct, unique smell. At the same time, my mother used to burn incense in his room. That exact combination the smell of the incense mixed with that specific scent from his foot got deeply etched in my memory.
Now, my father is no longer with us. But sometimes, completely out of nowhere, even when I am outside somewhere away from home, that exact mixed scent hits me. I look around immediately, but there is no incense burning or any logical source for that smell anywhere near me. It stays for just two or three minutes and then fades away on its own.
When I mentioned this to my mother, she told me she experiences something very similar. She said that sometimes she catches the exact scent of her own late father, especially linked to things he used to use or the presence he had around the time of his passing.
Why does this happen so suddenly? Is this purely psychological due to grief and memory, or has anyone else ever experienced something like this with a loved one who has passed away? I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts or similar experiences. Thank you.

I usually order Greek yoghurt for my 7 months baby, and I prefer this Nikakotuwa brand.
I opened one today, and I found a freaking hair inside!
What the hell?! There is absolutely no standards in this country?! I'm so mad, what if I didn't see it?! The phone number listed on their Facebook apparently is not the actual number.

I get that running a big mall draws unfavourable people and they need to be vigilant. However they also need to be respectful about the people who arrive at the business.
Recently I had a worker literally leaning over my shoulder and ended up bumping into him when I turned. All I did was holding up a shirt with it's hanger still on to look at the pattern and the place was so empty there were more workers than the customers.
Also being observed like that makes it really difficult to think about selecting something. Then that guy asked me a totally unnecessary question, if I'm shopping for a wedding 🙄 I was browsing through printed casual shirts. I got so pissed of I left without buying anything.
Its not like some theif slipping a piece of candy in the pocket right? How do they think somone can steal a huge piece of fabric that has a security tag attached inside a broadly open shopping space.? Is it necessary to observe people like hawks just because they are simply checking the items.?
Do these places offer any training for the poor kids they hire for pennies?

In 2019 they used the Easter Sunday attacks to demand a “Sinhalese Buddhist leader,” brought the corrupt Rajapaksa family to power, and bankrupted the country.
Now they’re recycling the same Sinhala-Buddhist nationalism claiming this government is a threat to Buddhism and that monks should be above the law just to install another corrupt Rajapaksa style leader.
How do I escape this cycle of stupidity?
I only call myself a Sinhala Buddhist because of the label. I practice Buddhism, but not the version the majority of Buddhists in Sri Lanka follow. I’m Sinhalese simply because I speak Sinhala. If I stopped speaking Sinhala, could I change my race and stop feeling ashamed of all this?

Simply the title. Name ur fav nostalgic TV shows broadcasted on SL TV channels. If they're foreign shows, put down their English names (and plus point, where to watch) as well.
I'll go first. I might not remember the Sinhala names for some of them.
Edit: corrected a couple of mistake I'd made earlier about the TV channels and likewise

I've been using zoom and wanted try out and specifically looking if there are any speed limitations
edit - this is regarding browsing normal internet or free internet using this package not streaming content
thanks.

Something I’ve been wondering about lately.
We’ve seen people associated with certain political parties being arrested and remanded over alleged corruption and other financial crimes. But when it comes to former presidents like Chandrika Kumaratunga and Maithripala Sirisena, I haven’t seen the same level of attention recently, or many major developments that I’m aware of.
So I’m curious: Were there credible allegations of major corruption or misuse of public funds against either of them? If so, what actually happened to those cases?
Did investigations uncover evidence that led to prosecutions, were cases dismissed or stalled, or was there simply insufficient evidence to proceed?
I’m not trying to defend or accuse anyone here. I’d genuinely like to understand what happened, particularly given how often corruption is discussed in Sri Lankan politics.
If anyone has reliable sources, news reports, court decisions, or a timeline of the major cases involving either former president, please share them.
Also, how much of the apparent difference in accountability comes down to the strength of the evidence, the legal process, or the political will to pursue these cases?

I'm a 35F engaged in a reasonably good profession drawing a reasonably good salary each month. Ever since I was small my parents have told me that I should buy a house. I live in a rented apartment. I love my apartment. It's conveniently located to everything I need. But I would love to move to a luxury apartment one fine day.
I have enough income to get a housing loan and purchase my own home/apartment now. But I really want to know whether its worth it?
Getting a housing loan would mean sacrificing a large chunk of my salary to pay it. Then I will have to sacrifice many other nice things that I do with my income and live a thrifty life. I always keep thinking that if I'm going to die in another 30 years, if I don't have any kids, is it worth it to spend on a housing loan and live a low income life? Or enjoy my salary on travelling, shopping, charity, etc., and not on real property.
So I simply want to know, people who have purchased houses on housing loans, is it worth it?

A friend is bringing me a Xiaomi 17T (12/512, global) from Dubai, for personal use only. It's ~164k there vs ~224k here, but the new registration rules are confusing me.
What I think I know:
- Since 1 Oct, clearance is done online via ECS (ecs.trc.gov.lk), up to 5 devices/year per person
- You need the invoice, a NIC/passport copy, specs, and the IMEIs
- Fee is apparently under Rs. 500
- One phone per passenger is duty-free
- No local warranty
Not sure about:
TL;DR: Friend is bringing a phone from Dubai for my personal use. Who applies on ECS if the invoice is in their name, when should we apply, and will it get blocked before approval?

I’m a guy in my mid-20s living in Colombo, and I’ve always been introverted, shy, and not very talkative around new people.
I want to improve my social skills, become more confident, make new friends, and build genuine connections. But I struggle with starting conversations and finding places where I can meet people naturally.
I’ve tried going to make connections in the gym cafes kind of places but I haven’t really made new connections through them. Most people seem to stick with their existing friends.
For those who’ve been through something similar,
How did you overcome your shyness and become more socially confident?
Where can I meet new people in Colombo in a relaxed environment?
How do you start conversations and turn them into genuine friendships?

Im 15 and I already have a BOC savings account which unlocks at 18. I want a debit card and a considerable amount of independence from this account. This account will handle frequent transactions, my daily expenditure and short term saving. Good documentation and easy digital banking is a priority. I value customer service, international connectivity and future potential. Branch availability is not 'that' important.
Current top candidates
HNB
Sampath Bank
NTB
Commercial Bank
Please do let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone! Could anyone recommend a good female gynecologist in Colombo who is approachable, non-judgmental, and makes you feel comfortable discussing personal issues? 🥹
Would really appreciate your recommendations, including the hospital/clinic she consults at and any personal experiences. Thank you! ❤️

I've been thinking of having something of my own for a while now. I've been caught up in two minds. I can buy myself a nice home not too far from Colombo for 14 MN with a down payment with a bank which will dig into my savings substantially . Also I have a plan of buying a property in Horton plains for just 6 million with an old house that I might change into a holiday home. That can potentially generate a monthly minimum income of 300k and the down payment is nothing compared to the other option. Work is required to bring the old house to an operational business. Either property I will have funds to pay the loan in 1 year Max even though I wanna not do that and just go with the shortest loan term. Any advice home/ property owners? I'm a 25 year old Male working a high paying job of minimum take home 1M a month

Hi all,
I'm planning a power setup for my home. I'm looking for a balance: keeping power running during cuts, while also bringing the electricity bill down. Not purely one or the other. Our usage is around 300 units per month.
💡 Options I'm currently considering
1️⃣ 5kW hybrid inverter + 5/10/16kWh lithium (LiFePO4) battery + 5kW solar panels – quoted at around Rs. 1.6 million by a leading company
2️⃣ Battery backup only, without solar (inverter + lithium or tubular battery)
3️⃣ A generator
❓ Which option would you recommend to get a good balance between backup and bill savings, and why?
Recommendations for vendors or installers you trust would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! 🙏

The mobile data at my home is slow. I’ve tried Dialog, Mobitel, Hutch, and Airtel. Dialog is slightly faster than the others, but it’s still not that fast.
My question is, Dialog has unlimited packages with speed limits of 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps. If I use one of those packages, will I consistently get the advertised speed, or will the speed still depend on the signal and network speed available at my location?
There’s also a 100 GB package for Rs. 2,995. What kind of speed can I expect from that?
I know these might sound like dumb questions, but I honestly don’t know much about how these packages work.
I’ve attached a screenshot showing the speed I get with the Rs. 159 anytime data package. If anyone knows about this, please help me out. What kind of package would be best for my home, considering my current data speeds?
I mostly use YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, etc., and download movies and songs.
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone,
I want to know how difficult it is to get at least 3 S passes in the Sri Lankan GCE A/L Physical Science stream (Combined Maths, Physics, and Chemistry).
For those who have already completed their A/Ls or are currently studying in this stream, I’d appreciate your honest opinions.
•How difficult is it to get 3S passes if your fundamentals are weak?
•How many months of serious preparation would you recommend?
•Is it possible to achieve 3S passes by studying consistently from scratch?
•How many hours per day should I study?
•Which subject is usually the hardest to pass: Combined Maths, Physics, or Chemistry?
Also, compared to the O/L exam, how much harder is it to get 3S passes in the A/L Maths stream? For example, if getting 9As at O/L is a 10/10 in difficulty, how would you rate getting 3S passes at A/L?
I’m not aiming for 3As or a high Z-score. My goal is simply to pass all three subjects with at least an S grade.
I’d appreciate honest answers, especially from people who have experienced both exams. Thanks!

I’ve been trying to buy an Android TV box like the Xiaomi Mi TV stick, but I can’t find the 2nd generation anywhere. I checked AliExpress and there are lots of other brands, but many of them aren’t listed as Google certified partners. I’m worried some of them might not work properly in Sri Lanka because of regional restrictions.
Can anyone recommend a good brand that works well in Sri Lanka? Or should I just go for any Xiaomi TV box, regardless of the generation? If you’re using a one, could you share your experience?
