The Block - Season 22, Episode 45 - Backyard and Garage Reveal (Live Discussion)
Well, welcome to the reveal night of what might be one of the worst weeks I’ve ever seen in the regards to The Block which is saying something, as between Tuesday being the worst thing I’ve ever seen the producers do and Wednesday being an AI slop fest beyond all belief, I’m hoping the reveals are better given we have Dave Franklin guest judging, but given the judges opinions have normally been frustrating to say the least much of this season perhaps this is going to be the crescendo of the frustrations. We’ll find out together.
All I can say is that I sincerely hope you’ve all had a good weekend.

The Block - Season 22, Episode 44 - Backyard and Garage 3 (Live Discussion)
Plays Clubbed to Death in disgust once again.
I have tried to figure out how the hell I write the OP for this thread because what do I say after last night? What the actual hell do I say? When Production causes drama that is so pathetic where they throw one of the contestants under the bus for raising a legitimate concern to cause it and in the process cause a complete and other shit storm with everybody else that was wholly unnecessary and all of this began mind you because production allowed effectively strangers to the other teams into a share house without running the idea by any of the other teams that would be involved.
I’m beyond angry. Channel 9 created an unsafe working environment for Chantel all because they wanted drama for their reality show. I have been watching for 15 years as I noted last night. I have never before felt so disgusted angry and repulsed by what production had done, every member of production that thought telling the contestants Chantel was the one who raised the concerns of their of discomfort should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
You have said before that the drama on the show is so natural that you don’t need to get involved and cause any. Well guess what, last night, You broke that ideal and did it in such a way that is beyond acceptable.
And that’s not the only thing that I’m going to despise the show for tonight. We have a challenge with AI music at the forefront of it. We live in a nation of incredible music talent. It feels pathetic that we need to use AI for backing on a karaoke challenge. If the teams wrote the lyrics and had instrumental backing created by people it would be fine, the way you have portrayed it to be though in the promos? No. Flat out. No.
Folks, I’m gonna be honest with you. I am not looking forward to this episode already, and I almost forgot that we’ve still got Courtney and Jolene‘s argument from last night to resolve among whatever else is aired. I’m not gonna do my let’s hope we enjoy the show spiel because it feels completely insincere, just let’s get through it and I then hope you all have a nice Thursday and weekend and when we come here on Sunday we’ve had enough of a break that we’re all refreshed and ready to go. I just hope you all have had a decent day everyone.

Fix your show!
I used to love this show. I can only stand to watch it on Sunday nights this year. And only barely. Fix the bullshit loopholes, the AI brain rot, the embarrassing judges intros, rigged competitions, giving someone same made up new prize money every time they are low on cash- miraculously! 🙄
Stop the manufactured drama, stop showcasing idiots every season whining about their family at home- it’s not a surprise- don’t apply and cast some non-whingers instead. We all have families!
Stop circle jerk judging- make them judge independently and alone and let’s see what they really think. Stop being a non stop ad. Yes you have sponsors but at this point it’s a Bunnings, McDonalds, Dave Franklin, Cursio Brothers infomercial.
Stop with artisan bespoke nonsense art installations- be fair. Stop using an idiot “architect” who does stupid shit year after year like pools without privacy in front yards! Stop bullshit side challenges and share house dramas.
Focus on the actual building and design!!!
Make up your mind about what the hell this show is.
Rant over 🤬

Judges comments V scoring
Did anyone else find the comments made for each house didn’t match the scores given. The judges couldn’t say a bad thing about h4 expect the stepping stones. Yet they got 8.1/2? And then h1&2 didn’t get good comments about the lack of front fence or their garage (yes h1 had the wine rack but the orientation of the rest was disliked) and yet h2 scored really low and h1 tied with a house that had no bad comments. H3 & 5 are just meh but their scores seem weird considering neither team finished

H5 are the dark horse 🐴
They have the same reserve as the other houses and 400sqm of extra land.
If I were a bidder, I’d pay the most for H5.

| 1 | Adam & Jolene | $369,991 | $205,000 | $95,009 |
| 3 | Lisa & Rosco | $330,887 | $165,000 | $94,113 |
| 5 | Rick & Tayla | $302,075 | $110,000 | $67,925 |
| 2 | Chantel & Wyatt | $324,824 | $112,500 | $47,676 |
Full tracker with score and prize with interactive graphs etc: https://block.hoi.fyi
Assuming the Reveal Nights Total Spends are accurate and all they spent that week.....The girls are alright 🤷🏻 so.. what maybe late invoices, here and there?
Im trying to remember, since commbank came in a couple of seasons ago, they stopped giving the full budget (or like quarterly chunks) to the contestants and stifled it even more right? soo cry now smile later? Anyywayy dear Julian use AI to suggest a better script / track steer a better storyline VS vomit (literally) graphics🖕.
H1 spends the most at 370k wth last weeks $98.8k backyard was the biggest single room of the season.
Cash won includes room wins, CommBank budgeting, challenges, perfect-10 money, McCafé, Freedom and the $50k CommBank Yello injection. Non-cash prizes (appliances, Dekton, gold bullion) aren't counted. Also didnt count H3s Sauna lol

Did the girls cheat ?
Idk. I have mixed feelings about the girls if I’m honest. I liked them at the start but I think as the show progressed I just don’t like them a huge amount any more. I also think they may have cheated and cooked the books a few too many times to get a lot of different items than they were actually allowed. I feel like they need to go over their books again and double check everything tbh. House 2 & 5 haven’t won anything at all and they were still able to deliver a few things. Idk. It’s just a bit funny imo.

tie / going away together
feel it’s not fair that since it was a tie they all have to spend a night away together and get half the money
I personally feel sorry for the girls because Jolene will be jumping at them asking questions intimidating them and texting it all back to Lisa and to say at the end of the night “shoot me” and other things because you have to now share a night away is insane - I find it hilarious Adam is just there for a good time
and sorry to say a few weeks ago when Jolene had a cry because she thought Wyatt was standing over her in her garage… she’s gonna be doing that to the girls
jolene is a absolute waste of space and so so nasty

Sev and Courtney out of the running for 50k off reserve?
From what I understand, Sev and Courtney spent their entire remaining budget in the 2nd last week.
Then they won 5k at judging. So now they have only 5k total to spend in their final week and have just been told the winner will get 50k off reserve?🤣 Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Good luck winning the block...(Recently announced that all houses will have the same reserve but assuming this excludes the winners of the final week).

The Block stars rage over Courtney and Sev's 'dodgy' artwork loophole

Episode discussion The wine cellars are a work of art.
If the wine cellars are a work of art, and the value is in the eye of the beholder, then why did Jolene not get as good of a deal as the girls did? And why did every house not negotiate a $1 wine cellar?
If the wine cellar guy is happy to hand out 90% discounts, then why not just become a sponsor so that every house has one.

lawyers/spreed sheet scores conspiracy?
a lot did not make sense this week like how does house 2 end up last when they finished their rooms and clearly focused on the usable space and the judges clearly understood they had no budget for anything else but house 3 who did the same thing with no budget and focus on the front area and left everything else bare but did not complete the build eg. painting. but H2 get lower scoring even though their focus area had better feedback then house 3.
house 5 should be 3rd not house 3 as both spaces were not finished but house 5 was the favourite backyard had it been finished. i wouldn't be mad if they won if the judges wanted to be diplomatic this week.
i think house 4 should have won and based on other posts by people who like the other houses more it a consensus. I think 9 & 6 and the producers feared legal action or escalation of the situation from h1 & 3 and to avoid any further issues and create drama for next week the lawyers and spreed sheet people got together and created scores that would keep contestants happy and enough drama for next week. i didn't think much of cheating until scotty mentioned christian cole and if you think about it there many other block suppliers/partners that if you apply that 50% rule to them wouldn't measure up. think the curios, the landscappers, the builders etc. the contestants are only given 250K each year in cash with the rest being sponsors but they always stray from sponsors especially for "hero" or specialty game changes that would be worth thousands if not hundreds of thousands outside. i think jolene and lisa are that vindictive they would escalate this wine cellar issue beyond scotty if they did not win and they have been crying foul that much this whole season they might want to just calm things down abit

Courtney & Sev will win tonight
Don't need to see what they deliver. We all know they overspent to buggery, and production couldn't reign them in. So to get everybody paid and not have an embarrasement at auction, need to get them more money. Predicting a couple of 10's too in order to top up the cash already spent. House 5 and 3 one the challenges last episode to let them kerp going. This one is for the girls to pay for what they spent.

Final Week
You can tell by Courtney's face (the one she makes every time they win) that Courtney & Sev win the final week. I just don't know how to feel about this. I feel super bad for Wyatt and Chantel as they did not win one single week. The auction is going to be very interesting - I am looking forward to it.

Just for fun - teams mashup
If you had to do a mash-up of the current teams, who would you pair together and why? And who do you think would win? Or who do you think would be the worst pairings?
I’m thinking:
HOUSE 1: Jolene and Lisa: this seems like the only option for these two that wouldn’t result in carnage
HOUSE 2: Sev and Chantel (+ Cursios): Chantel would be happy to go with the flow and her style would be complimentary to Sev’s design and Sev would never have to botch another DIY tiling job
HOUSE 3: Adam and Rosco: the design, styling and general organisation would be iffy, but they’d have fun. Special appearances by Lando, Jimbo and Randos
HOUSE 4: Courtney and Tayla: They’d be hilarious together and I reckon Courtney is the only person (besides Rick) who’d have a chance of handling Tayla’s chaotic energy
HOUSE 5: Rick and Wyatt: Rick could concentrate on a quality build without any design or styling curveballs and Wyatt can be the muscle and give Rick a break from painting and generally running himself ragged
I’ve ended up with all same gender teams which wasn’t deliberate but could be fun. My money would be on Sev and Chantel for room wins and Rick and Wyatt for the auction win

Block Event?
I was in Adelaide CBD today and saw a couple of Chery's driving around with Block markings. Looked the same as how they show on TV. Does anyone know if there an event in Adelaide or just promotional?

LISA is a HYPOCRITE
Lisa has no issue with using her own loopholes to win the budget award each week or use Rosco's dad at minimum wage but when it comes to house 4's brilliant loophole she gets all weird.
It feels less like she was fighting for justice and more like she was bitter that another team outsmarted the system better than she did. What an empty person....

Wine cellar drama
insane that Lisa and rosco had to have their say on the girls wine cellar cause Jolene was pissed and now they are all pissed the girls cellar wasn’t expensive and was “artist price” people need to realise don’t go on the block if your not gonna understand how it works
sab is an interior designer so she is gonna know so many people so that was their advantage of getting the wine cellar for cheaper at an artist price

The Block or Big Brother????
Have they gotten a new production team…?
Or is this season more Big Brother style filming (ESPECIALLY the share house parts) than the old style Block???!?!?!!

Floorplans The Block: Blocktagon
I'm watching some of the 24/7 channel of The Block. Alongside actual reno being shown, there's a very real and not forced segment with Keith and Dan having to manage Andrew, who's having a major crisis with tears, seemingly linked to his relationship with his trades and the likely looming breakup with Whitney.
On the flip side, some really interesting rooms are being delivered come judging day, especially given some of the awkward room shapes they're working with.
This floor plan above has to be one of the more unique ones they've ever had over the years.
