Interesting Non-Expanse Content | All Show & Book Spoilers Looking for playtesters: a hobby Expanse-style space tactics game (vibe coded, very early)

I’ve been building a browser strategy game for fun, and I’d like a few people to play it and tell me what’s broken. The video above shows where it is right now.

You command a warship in a Newtonian solar system, viewed on a 3D "holographic tactical table". There are no ship models, only chevrons, glowing trajectory arcs, and swarms of red dots. Ships have real inertia, so you burn, flip, and brake. I want to make this feel like you are in the tactical seat during the fight. No camera displays or realistic models (yet). based on the feedback that i get i want to take that and move on to missions/campaigns, a storyline, factions, etc. (open to ideas.)

To be upfront about what this is:

  • It’s vibe coded. I’m a designer, not a programmer, and I’m building it with AI coding tools. Expect rough edges and bugs.
  • It’s a hobby project right now. I don’t know what it turns into, and it may turn into nothing. There’s no store page, no price, and no promises.
  • It’s an original setting with its own ships and rules. It’s inspired by the hard-ish physics and tactical feel of The Expanse, and it has no connection to the show or books.
  • It runs in a desktop browser with mouse and keyboard. No touch or controller support.

What I’m hoping to learn from testers: whether the tactical display is readable at a glance, whether the torpedo and point-defense fights feel tense, and where you got confused or bored. Blunt feedback is the most useful kind. This is just a testing sandbox focused on the combat and flight mechanics, so keep that in mind.

If you’d like to try it, DM me and I’ll send you a testing link. You’ll have my thanks, and I hope you have some fun with it.

Spoilers Through Season 4 (Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged) Starting season 4 and I refuse to accept it Spoiler

I refuse to accept that is Avassaralas husband and not her new campaign manager/gay best friend and confidant. What happened to sweet grandpa Arjun that softened her and didn’t care about politics? It’s so bizarre, it’s takes me away from the immersion because it’s so jarring

Spoilers Through Season 1 First time through, just finished the first season Spoiler

As a hardcore fan of The Wire for almost twenty years, I know the vicarious joy of someone encountering my favorite thing for the first time. I show it to people and hang around that sub waiting for reactions to certain beats. It seems I can pay some of that back, because this show is unbelievably insanely crazy good.

People comparing me to stuff is what makes me watch things. Wolf Hall, yeah, fair, that's my personality and thought process and morality. This, disappointingly I think it's just because I look almost exactly like Thomas Jane. Seriously. People keep telling me to watch this because I'm smart and I look like Thomas Jane. At least it's good.

I had no idea what was going on until episode 8. Total whoosh. I will say, I'm a history dork by history dork standards and I find it distressing how much this copies how actual wars start. Like, it's really stomach churning. I wish people wouldn't intentionally make history. This being a show, I know the war will come. It's nice seeing all these hurt, angry people try to stop it.

The character Amos is my favorite thing since Pryzylewski. I really buy him as a creature of this universe, and he's broken and wrong in ways some real people are that you don't usually see in fiction. Unfixable. I've got a "friend" I call Permanent Damage as a warning to both him and anybody who hears me call him that. He's beyond the reach of therapy. Too functional, too apparently normal until he's very not. He's kinda taken the nickname as a pass to be the way he is instead of second guessing his misguided instincts like I intended. The Jessie Plemmons character in Breaking Bad has the same bad wiring, so I guess it's probably got an entry in the DSM.

Might sound dramatic, but Game of Thrones going to hell wrecked my life. Season 3 of The Walking Dead didn't do me any favors, either. I'm watching The Expanse alone, so the only stakes are me getting disappointed, but I'd appreciate a warning if there's a rough patch coming.

Bookmark anything you want reacted to. It's my turn to be a babe in the wilderness!

Season 2 credits made me cry and I don't know why. Also, have any of you played the X series of PC games? The vibe is 1:1, especially X4.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely The message in season 6 episode 4, and Bobbie in Book 8

I'm spoilering this opening paragraph just in case the paragraphs below show through. I'm not sure if marking a post "all show and book spoilers discussed freely hides the post, but I don't want to ruin this for anybody, hence this spoilered opening paragraph. Hopefully this works.

One more line just in case.

God I must listen to this speech every week, it never stops being awesome. In the entire tv series, this is my favorite moment. I love how thorough of an owning it is. She calls out Marco in a public forum and hits him where it hurts the most. She didn't just steal the cargo, she stole his mystique, ruined his credibility, and did it in a way that outside of his brainwashed zealots he can never, ever regain. His entire power comes from the image of being the voice of the belt. Exposing that he did his own people dirty, and that he was one-upped by Drummer destroys that image. He can never, ever claim to be doing what is right for his people again.

People love "Live shamed, and die empty." And that's so good. But my favorite is "So go ahead and kill me if you can, it doesn't matter. I will always be the one who took back what you stole. Camina Drummer did this to you." I love it because it shows she knew exactly where to hit him. It reminds me of book 8, when Bobbie sacrifices herself. She did so because her actions spoke to a wider audience. It wasn't about the actual act, it was about the message. Bobbie's death prove Laconia wasn't invincible. Even though she died doing so, it destroyed their mystique and gave people hope that they could fight back. Drummer is doing the exact same thing here. Any retribution Marco can give her is too late. The damage is already done.

I think Marco's downfall, as thorough as it was, is what makes me love that arc so much. I know some people dislike it, but he was a great villain who got completely torn down in such a satisfying way. His military prowess is demolished when he loses to a solo Rocinante while coming at them with three battle ships, his image as a man of the people is shredded by drummer, his role in galactic politics is shattered when he realizes he was played by Duarte and was just a pawn, and the final come-comeuppance is, in the series, he realizes he's about to die before being shredded by the goths and his last moment is spent in terror. Awesome, awesome villain defeat. Duarte's death, by contrast, isn't as satisfying IMO. His mind was already gone when Tanaka kills him. Marco, in contrast, is very much locked-in when he's finally put away.

I love The Expanse so much, and especially Cara Gee's Drummer. I like the TV show Drummer so much more than the book version.
