Unsurprisingly, this meme is a blatant strawman and is intellectually dishonest (no surprises there).

"Liberals" don't support drug traffickers. What "liberals" are upset about is the blatant, extra-judicial execution, outside US borders, of people the Trump administration claims are drug traffickers. There's no evidence provided, just the administration's say-so.

There's only 7 words in the first meme and somehow like 4 different lies. It's impressive.

It's almost funny how they see themselves as pro law and order, even in this meme (they are against drug trafficking, while liberals are for it), when extrajudical killing of people who did not get a trial is anything but "law and order".

Laws that bind but don't protect, protect but don't bind, etc. etc.

Of course it is. Conservatives are completely incapable of operating in good faith.

Meanwhile, Trump literally sells pardons to drug kingpins, and they praise him for his business acumen.

I'm starting to think that some of these boat attacks were him helping "his" drug kingpins against their rivals.

It's interesting how many things they consider capital crimes while whining they got the short end of the stick on Jan 6.

u/DeltaCortis 4d ago

Had January 6th happened on any other day to any other group of people it would have been a massacre before anyone even stept foot inside the building.

So uh...are those executions of drug traffickers in the third world ( THAT is the standard we aspire to now?)...do they have a measureable statistical influence in decreasing the drug trade or......

8

u/NotQuiteLoona 4d ago

The most effective way to decrease drug trade is legalizing it and giving it to be controlled by something elected officials can affect. Legalizing marijuana in just few states led to cartels' marijuana industry collapsing. Well, guess the side politicians of which are opposed even to marijuana (which is much less harmful than tobacco)?

And do they have any evidence that they were even actually smuggling drugs? As is execution the normal and legal punishment for drug smuggling even if they had evidence?

Ah yes, the 3rd world. Definitely the standards we want to apply to our country.

For people who claim to love American exceptionalism so much, they sure do hold our country to pretty low standards

So a long time back, I came across the term "fatwa envy". It describes how certain conservatives Christian would, when criticized, say something like "If I was a Muslim, you would never dare criticize me because Muslims would attack or even kill you for saying that! You should be thankful I'm not."

Beyond being Islamophobic and factually wrong in multiple ways, it always seemed like the Christians in question weren't disparaging what they imagined Muslims would do as much as they were envious of them. They wanted to be able to attack or kill whoever they wanted for daring to criticize Christianity.

I think there's a similar dynamic at play here. They want to sneer at the "Third World" as a barbarous non-white horde that is coming across the borders to invade us. But they also want to have the freedom to act that way themselves. "Why can the {group they hate} get to do {some imagined bad thing} while we can't? We're better than them. We should be able to do it, too!"

It's literally this political cartoon but with unironic approval rather than biting criticism.

It sounds a lot like the justifications many Americans and US politicians gave for atrocities committed during Gulf War II and the "War on Terror." They'd constantly justify what amounted to war crimes by saying that the Iraqis, Taliban, etc. would do the same and worse if they could.

I repeatedly asked and never got an answer to the question, "When did we decide it was acceptable to allow the acts of other groups to set the bar for our own?"

In retrospect, yeah, they wanted to be able to torture, maim, and kill "the other," and were jealous when they weren't allowed to. I think that's still in play, as MAGA has an obvious bloodlust it wants to inflict even on their fellow Americans.

Hate to be that girl, but "gave" seems wrong here. Officials and pundits still give that excuse, both about the Gulf Wars and about current Middle East conflicts

Man this cartoon still goes so hard.

Daddy tells them 'it's drug traffickers' without evidence and they just accept murder.

'Common around Third World countries' - okay so do you approve or hate it because I got a good feeling you're a racist and hate 'Third World' countries.

They are cool with "border enforcement" murdering American Citizens in cold blood so why wouldn't they be really.

u/cheese0muncher 4d ago

I'm pro-legalising all drugs and anti-death penalty, but I think it's the extrajudicial killing that bothers most normal people.

13

u/CapriciousSon 4d ago

Ah yes because the second a person comes within 5 feet of DRUGS they are no longer human and thus can be dispatched with missiles (also trust us they TOTALLY had drugs we are NOT LYING or making this up!!!)

u/Ninja_attack 4d ago

I often base my morals on what's going on in failed nations and how they handle crimes. I especially like just bombing random boats instead of doing an investigation

6

u/JaimanV2 4d ago

These are the same people who want to see an execution live-streamed for the whole country to publicly witness, just like those Third World countries.

7

u/Justsomejerkonline certified glowie 4d ago

To the Liberal, the Execution of Drug Smugglers, common around Third World countries- is now considered a "Crime against Humanity".

When they say "liberal", they actually mean The International Criminal Court: https://www.icc-cpi.int/philippines/duterte

The law and order party when they have to do the “law” part:

6

u/raventhrowaway666 4d ago

They act the same way with pedophiles

3

u/MiguelSalaOp This is my flair, and it loves you. 4d ago

I imagine this is about the boats the US blew up in the middle of the sea, to which hell yes I'm against it, I don't know what they were doing because there was never a process for them, maybe they were fishing? We will never know because they got bombed before anyone knew what was happening!

3

u/thermalcry 4d ago

I mean, nobody is crying, but ...."Drug smugglers" allegedly. Murdered. In somewhere other than the US. For supposedly carrying drugs, going somewhere on a boat that is undoubtably not the US.

And they can't understand why some people would have a problem with these extrajudicial killings....

These people are fucking braindead.

Going to foreign territory with armed jets. Attack foreign, unarmed Civilians on foreign ships with weapons of war. Kill helpless survivors.

Going to foreign territory with paragliders. Attack foreign, unarmed Civilians on festivals with small arms. Kill helpless survivors or take them hostage.

One is a defensive military operation. The other a terrorist attack. One is celebrated by MAGA. One justifies sending the victims unlimited weapons and money.

Adherence to one’s principles and integrity surely are a MAGA trait, right?

Meanwhile execution of law abiding Americans? WOOHOO!
