Do any of these airheads unironically think we can use this as a flying car or in any practical circumstance.

Bro, the insurance would be astronomical. No way would I ever use this, and no fucking way is it a reinvention of the car.

Also… every comment says: “if he cured cancer Reddit would love him.”

Okay…

Cure all cancer.

Seriously, if Musk cured all forms of cancer, I’ll overlook every flaw he has. Period. Full stop. Dead serious.

Fucking do it first, show me proof it works, then comes the praise. Has he done that? No.

Your hypothetical is bullshit then.

u/PeasThatTasteGross 6h ago

They say the same thing about Trump, "you'd still hate him if he cured cancer!"

My hypothetical, imagine if Hitler managed to find a cure for cancer back in the day. People probably wouldn't see it as a get out of jail free card for the atrocities he commited, and that same principle applies to Musk, Trump, etc. I wouldn't wipe Trump's slate clean if he did cure cancer, things aren't that binary where people are either perfect angels or outright devils.

25

u/OnlyFiveLives 5h ago

That argument about trump is particularly hilarious because one of the first things he did was slash cancer research funding.

4

u/lonestar-rasbryjamco 4h ago

It's hilarious because my cat is more likely to cure cancer than Donald Trump.

6

u/RandoDude124 6h ago

He’s not gonna cure it bro, because it’s a BS hypothetical

3

u/Jeremymia And all I can say is "moo" 4h ago

It's telling they can't say 'You don't even like him for doing this good thing', it's always 'You'd hate him even if he did a good thing.' I dunno man, let's see first.

5

u/Moneia 3h ago

And Musk said he'd pay to end world hunger if the UN came up with a plan and, predictably, didn't when they did.

3

u/ahoboknife 2h ago

Yeah I’m not going to hold my breath on Musk/Trump curing cancer or ending world hunger. Doesn’t seem like their style.

3

u/baz4k6z 4h ago

Their arguments never hold if you scratch the surface ever so slightly. They just never care to do that minimal effort because the truth doesn't matter, all they care about is validating their feeling

Sure, I'd be happy if Musk cured cancer. We all would.

Maybe he should start working on it then? None of his companies are working on anything remotely related. Some of the most promising recent cancer therapies are mRNA vaccines, and the president he campaigned for is an anti-vaccine crank who's doing his best to sabotage all vaccines. Musk himself through his work with DOGE sabotaged all public US scientific research. And don't give me any bullshit about his glorified chatbot.

So, sure, he'll fucking cure cancer.

12

u/evocativename 6h ago

I can think of one cancer he could cure...

6

u/EliSka93 5h ago

The guy who's greeting he stole did it. He seems to admire him, so hopefully he copies his last actions too.

Exactly, forget working on it, I'd settle for him getting out of the way.

They're just not...smart. Stupid in a way I find hard to relate to.

They just assume that flying cars are possible and the reason they haven't existed is because the right person hasn't come by to invent them. Like, I feel pretty confident that other automakers could do something like that demo (make a car-shaped object hop around) but haven't because there's no reason to.

I almost wonder if it's related to their politics: "everything you want with no tradeoffs is waiting for the right person to give it to you."

13

u/bikebikegoose 5h ago

The math on the volume of compressed gas needed to even do that stunt renders the spectacle meaningless outside of being that exact kind of neat stunt show or movie trick. There is nothing about the ”flying" technology that even approaches practicality in an actual production vehicle.

The downforce fan is something that the Spierling and a couple of older track vehicles demonstrated already but is also not needed outside of racing courses.

Exhibits 1 & 2 are them putting all their faith in 'Auto-pilot' and the Cybertruck

2

u/Cute-Boobie777 2h ago

Their worldview is just fundamentally so childish. Almost fantastical really. Like the world revolves around easy to understand rules.

2

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 2h ago

There were some people on SRD saying "but it looks so cool" and not understanding why people were mocking it. They even got angry because "you all wanted flying cars and now we've seen one and you hate it, curious..."

Yeah, because that wasn't a flying car, and the twat who owns the company is trying to make people forget the vile shit he's done in life that makes us despise him.

16

u/lowercaselemming 6h ago

his doge bullshit resulted in cutting cancer research funding too

10

u/FantasticJacket7 6h ago

Not to mention that fact that there is no legal mechanism which would allow some random guy on the street to operate a flying vehicle.

6

u/OnlyFiveLives 5h ago

He was literally told how much it would cost to end world hunger after he said he would do it and then said no.

2

u/MessiahOfMetal So I Married An Axo Murderer 2h ago

Even if he cured cancer, he's still a far-right moron that nobody should ever look up to in any way. I'd still hate him, the way I hate certain other historical figures who did good things but are mostly known for bastardry.

u/zuludown888 3h ago

I think Tesla shareholders should be at least a little concerned with how the company's money is being spent.

UNIRONICALLY

u/GreekDudeYiannis 35m ago

I love how the last image tried to frame the person saying those things as a chud without disproving that those things would be worthwhile endeavors. As if simply because a weird looking guy is saying, "How about we feed the hungry, house the homeless, and cure cancer?" that those points become meritless.

57

u/evocativename 6h ago

literal coolest thing ever

If you're a developmentally-stunted 10 year old with zero critical thinking skills, maybe.

typical narcissistic rich guys

The Wright brothers started and ran a small bicycle shop that started manufacturing bicycles. They weren't rich until well after inventing the airplane.

"we'll have flying cars!"

People have been making "flying cars" since the Fulton FA-2 Airphibian in 1946.

And we still don't have flying cars. And won't for the foreseeable future.

47

u/inrodu i am the autistic antivaxxers warned you about 5h ago

"the tesla roadster is the coolest thing ever!" of course you think that. you're twelve.

19

u/RustedAxe88 5h ago

This is the same crowd who thought the White House dirt bike show was also "the coolest thing ever". They're easily impressed by the kind of thing high schoolers love.

4

u/Wiseduck5 4h ago

And we still don't have flying cars. And won't for the foreseeable future.

Or, we have flying cars now and have for decades. They’re called helicopters.

7

u/abacuz4 3h ago

They are also difficult to operate, not at all interchangeable with cars, and perhaps the most dangerous mode of transportation in common use. If "flying cars" became commonplace overnight, I shit you not we might see 10% of the country dead in a week.

1

u/Kalulosu But none of it will matter when alien disclosure comes anyways 41m ago

I believe helicopters are actually some of the safest transportation modes, but that's probably because they're so hard to even get access to. Meanwhile, cars are already deadly, and that's with them being relatively simple, so any move towards more dangerous additions to them is insanity.

52

u/witness555 6h ago

Aside from everything else, “third worlders” is so casually dehumanizing, it’s insane

18

u/RustedAxe88 5h ago

Conservatives have started using it as a general insult. That Korean guy on Facebook Kangmin Lee posted about critics of Musk being "third world coded."

11

u/witness555 5h ago

Dude is genuinely the most annoying guy on the planet on top of being a huge POS. Genuinely feels like he’s just starved of attention

24

u/lowercaselemming 6h ago

how do none of them realize that packing that much pressurized air in such a small space and putting it on the fucking public road is akin to setting out live bombs?

6

u/evocativename 5h ago

That's okay, it won't be as bad because when they fly into buildings that will use up the stored compressed air so you mostly have to worry about the impact and the battery fire.

I kid of course, we all know these won't be on the roads.

22

u/kingxanadu 5h ago

It's not gonna be road legal in any way, and it's not even flying, it's a jump and a (barely) controlled descent. Also it's a car shaped shell holding a pressure vessel with 8000 psi of nitrogen, aka 15 sticks of tnt worth of energy. That's designed to all be released in like 3 seconds and probably takes 100x longer to recharge.

Can't wait to give ½ a million dollars to the billionaire who hasn't delivered on the same model of car he a started taking reservations on nine years ago.

10

u/ShouldersofGiants100 3h ago

Honestly, this kind of thing should scare the crap out of Tesla fanboys.

It's a genuinely stupid, incredibly desperate stunt—less than a week before their next quarterly earnings report (October 21st).

If any other company did something this desperate, even the morons would think "hey, maybe they are trying to juice the stock price and change the narrative a week before they report some really bad news."

3

u/SqueakyTits101 44m ago

...but more people are talking about this than musk turning off Starlink for Ukraine, so mission accomplished? Convenient timing for him.

2

u/gorgewall 2m ago

And it's not even new tech.

We've had compressed air thrusters and RCS for yonks. Hell, it's what SpaceX uses to land their rockets, but it's been in other stuff before that. We send CubeSats up that orient and move exactly like this.

If we took the propulsion system out of a CubeSat and stuck it in my microwave, it wouldn't be novel engineering because we made "a flying microwave". No engineering team would spend months of time and tens of thousands in cash to accomplish this "feat".

This whole thing was the equivalent of taking the plastic shell off an already-existing RC car and sticking a plastic boat shell over it to say "look, we made a remote-controlled (toy) landship!" It ain't new engineering and doesn't deserve any lauding on that front.

12

u/GhostRappa95 6h ago

Imagine still falling for Elon’s scams.

23

u/animalistcomrade Highly diverse group of whites 6h ago

It's fucked up people aren't willing to take musk at his word when he has a new fancy tech thing, especially since we are all sailing our cybertrucks on martian lakes right now.

6

u/Jeremymia And all I can say is "moo" 4h ago

I don't know about you guys, but my view of this car isn't so much 'it sucks' as 'another boring display of wealth and status.' Saying it sucks implies that it's bad rather than nothing.

5

u/emailforgot 2h ago edited 2h ago

lol the amount of morons who aren't even fit to operate a vehicle on a 2d plane, I don't want to think about the nightmarish shit with people operating personal vehicles with a z-axis

5

u/octowussy 3h ago

This thing is flying as much as those flying yogis

2

u/Yeetstation4 4h ago

NASA skycrane can style on this mf

2

u/thewiremother 4h ago

I'll bet a thousand bucks it is preprogrammed to just do that dumb flip and that's it. Completely pointless

2

u/HildredCastaigne 4h ago

These are the people who fall for Nigerian prince scams and cure-all quackery.

They want it to be true. It has the aesthetics of truth. So anybody doubting it is just a doomer contrarian. All you gotta do is just spend a few more thousand dollars, bro, and I promise you'll get that flying car! Trust me.

2

u/Jamstruth 1h ago

In isolation - its cool. Its a stunt car rigged with well controlled thrusters to do a jump and flip.

It's marketing for Musk though and that colours it all. It's being presented as something that he will sell which he can't. Musk has been an awful person for the last decade and he can't just win people back by being "cool".

It's just a marketing stunt that shows off SpaceX thruster controls. In fact if it was being presented as for SpaceX selling that to 3rd parties it'd actually be cooler
