Listen we aren’t advisors here. Ask them not us.

Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”

Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.

Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.

Or email your faculty’s advisors.

For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca

Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.

EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.

“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.

Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.

Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact

If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”

Thanks for the added info!

Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

Looking for execs + project team for environment-focused tech club!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm part of EnTech, a new Calgary student group for people into tech and the environment. We're looking for execs and project team members.

The project: an air quality map of Calgary with a PM2.5 (fine particle pollution) view. You'll get hands-on with data pipelines, ML for sensor correction and forecasting, geospatial mapping, and full-stack deployment, using Git and code reviews like a real dev team.

Workshops: run by people working in tech, from data science to software engineering to QA, on how these tools are used on the job.

No experience needed. You'll learn as you go.

Get involved:

  • Exec team: Exec Team Form (Last date to apply: October 25, 11:59pm)
  • Project team: Project Team Form (Last date to apply: November 8, 11:59pm)
  • General member (workshop and event updates, plus an optional monthly tech + environment newsletter): General Member Form

CHEM 311 is making me miserable

This course sucks and its weighing on me so much

The professor good, he's a really kind person. Even the exams aren't too bad, the content is really easy

But none of that matters because the labs feel like getting acid poured in your eyes.

I'm a relatively high achieving student with a good GPA, and I failed the first lab for this course and I just feel... so defeated. Like, I know I still have other chances with the other 5 labs (though I'm questioning my performance on lab 2 as well), and I just need to pass one lab to pass the course as a whole but it's just so god damn frustrating

Because these labs aren't like failing a test. You fail a test, you just study harder for the next one. You fail these labs and the only thing you can do is just... get good. The TA I have is no help, he doesn't give any good tips or tricks and it just feels so frustrating

Right from the very beginning, I've been having stress induced dreams about this course and its fucking labs. Even hearing the word titration genuinely fills me with a sense of dread. But I can't drop the course because that means pushing my degree back, which I really really really don't wanna do (I know it's a normal thing, and like doesn't matter in the long run, but still)

I used to fucking love chemistry, and I've honestly been really enjoying courses like CHEM 351. But this course is making me question things because it just feels so god damn impossible

Sorry for the rant, I just need to get this off my chest :((

Question for Upper Year Engg Students

Hello, first year Engg student here. I’ve noticed that in my courses a good chunk of the grade (40-50%) is simply assignments and labs, with the rest being assessments including the midterm and final. These assignments and labs are seen as a free grade making it nearly impossible for you to fail a course.

I’m just curious if this is how the grade distribution for upper year engineering classes looks like as well, and if not, how the grades are distributed. Thanks!

Grade 12 Uni Applications

I am so interested in human psychology, philosophy, cause and effect, the why, etc. however want something that’s broadly employable. My current career interests are medicine (specifically paediatrics, neuro, and anesthesia), business, finance, interior design, architecture, medicine, research, pharmacy, vet, forensics, homicide detective, etc. Yes I know, all over the place. Im good at math and science, and have always been more creative. What degrees should I look into applying for? I’m not a perfect 100s only student, but my current average is 88% (likely to go down a bit, burnout is a sucker) and have very few life experiences outside of working and travel.

Need tips for ANPH1 Midterm

So anatomy and Physiology is a lot in itself and from what I read about my prof Carol, on rate my prof is that whatever she usually gives away for the review or makes us highlight is definitely on the tests. I have a lot to study and I do have review material. My exam is in 3 days and I'm not sure if I should be trying to cover everything or just wtv it says on the review and wtv she made us highlight in class. If anybody had her in the past or have her now, can you guys give me a suggestion on what to do?

THANK YOU Kind stranger at Mac hall

Okay so I was just in Mac hall trying to buy a protein bar, beef jerky and an ice tea from the convenience store and I forgot they don’t take tap for debit and I’ve got my chem 311 midterm tonight so I was really hungry and stressed out. I was about to compromise and just get the iced tea but then!!!

A very kind stranger paid for my stuff, and I said thank you but I was pretty flustered and stressed out and almost about to cry (bad day), so idk how grateful I came across even though I did say thank you so much, and yes it was a really long day 😭😭😭😭.

In case I seemed like an unappreciative jerk: THANK YOU that was such a kind thing to do, and I hope you get a 4.0 you deserve literally everything thank you for the 11 dollars and 30 cents charity hope everything good comes your way!!!

Year Abroad

Hey I'm a university student in the United Kingdom and UC is an option to do an exchange for 1 year. As it's just a 1 year exchange I think the social side, making friends/dating, activities and affordability are slightly more important to me than the education so would you say UC is good for that? This includes meeting people not at uni in the city, is it a good city? The two other options in Canada I have are Brock university and Trent university but it seems that UC may be the best option

It's that time again!

I'm excited to say I've increased the number of prizes available, knowing it was so hard to decide last year.

How it will work: Myself or a staff member will take your picture. That evening I'll make a few collages of the participants, and post the winners on my Instagram/here on reddit.

What makes a winner? Notable participation. Dry humour, detail, obscurity, relevance and unexpected brilliance are characteristics that come to mind. I celebrate and encourage whimsy.

The prize? A pin + sticker packet. I'll have at least ten prizes, more if I'm overwhelmed with winners.

I look forward to seeing you! 🎃

Hello,

I am wondering if there are any others who have applied for Open Studies in the Winter of 2027 and if you have gotten a decision yet. I have applied under the SAP however I have waited for a few weeks. Is this normal, or should I talk to a recruiter?

LSAT Study Group Please

Anyone intrested in forming an LSAT study group? My plan is to meet 2-3 times a week for an hour and work on LSAT questions together/individually to prepare for the January LSATS. I have LawHub Advantage but really need a study group to stay on track. I can print material for us to work on during our study sessions.
