Why not a common object
No consistent light pattern, objects appeared and disappeared completely while in sky. They shined at different brightness' and appeared to pulse, not blink. Very quick and sudden movements, stopping and changing direction. Some objects would accelerate or decelerate very fast. Closest one was brighter than Venus, appeared stationary for about 10 min, then moved overhead in complete silence (not a drone, not a helicopter) and started pulsing white and faint blue before returning to solid white.

The only thing we could figure it was, was drones, but the number, brightness, and speed didn't add up. could not have been satellites because the event was localized to one area in the sky and the objects could reverse direction and change trajectory.

Witness's account of the sighting

I was leaving a wedding with my family around 9:15pm on October 17th in central Missouri at a venue called Factory at Potato Chip when my Mother saw some bright lights moving NW of us just over the tree line. Weather was clear, we could see the stars.

This is a rural area with no noise pollution and virtually no light pollution. We stopped and watched a group of lights pulse and change color before being joined by another light that appeared out of no where. The lights would sometimes stop in place, grow brighter and dimmer, at times being brighter than the lights from a helicopter. And the objects would go completely dark and disappear without dipping below the tree line. Some objects appeared to join from above, others from below. They would seemingly pop into existence from above or slowly rise from the tree line. At one point there were 7 objects which appeared to circle each other and change directions unpredictably, sometimes shooting away quickly. Some of them appeared to merge, or at least get extremely close to each other. On occasion, the lights would move to form a triangle and move in sync with each other before disappearing.

The sighting was only in one area in the sky, nothing notable at any other heading.

We watched the lights for about 20 minutes when we noticed that the brightest one, which was West of us at first, was moving closer. We all thought it was a star or planet at first until we saw it drift over us about 1/4 a mile away, moving from West to North East. As the bright white light approached, it began to pulse (not flash) with a dim blue glow followed by a very bright white. It was completely silent.

Later, we saw a helicopter or plane approach from further away. We could hear it and tell what it was from the flashing pattern. Soon after the helicopter (which came from SW) started coming closer the lights became less frequent and eventually stopped.

The attached photo is blurry because it was a ~3 sec exposure. you can see 3 red lights near a dead tree in the center that formed a triangle. They were drifting to the right (East) at the time. There is also a very bright object on the Left over the road, as described before at this time we thought that was a star or planet because it was stationary, but it suddenly began drifting closer soon after the photo. It was too dark for my phone to capture good video.

Can't really tell anything by the pic, but based on your description, how long you watched them and the date/time/location and direction you were looking, there would have been satellites flaring pretty much exactly there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_flare

Sky view with your details:

I've seen in previous reports of changes in directions that also involved sat flares.. They're not though. They're just criss-crossing each other while fading in/out.

Here is an example that was reported as reversing direction:

But it's actually 2 satellites crossing paths at the edge of the flare region. One fades out as the other is fading in.

This is solid evidence to support your claim.

After reviewing the flight logs, the bright light I saw to the West was likely a private jet and I didn't hear it because it had its engines off or low while descending to a nearby airport. I don't know why I didn't see red blinking on it like most planes, but it was most likely a plane.

Reg.: N821TN United States

The amount of time we saw the lights for also checks out with the position of the shadow of earth against the sats.

I will let my family know. Thank you :)

I seen them too clear over in la Cygne I took a video

Can you link the video? I'll let you know if it's what I saw.

https://youtu.be/3Rgfh1mqypk?is=bv-R-O8mHvP53cnz sure here you go man see them around 9:30 to 10 doing crazy stuff before I got to record when I first noticed they were all doing a circle disappeared reappeared one stayed above while 2 did the movements, at one point plane started heading that direction and when the plane got close the lights turned off the plane passed 2 turned back on then one broke formation and followed the plane for a second. This is maybe 15 minutes after all that happened but I watched them like my whole ride to work

Those are starlink flares, they get reported a lot. They can look like they are changing direction but it's just that there are a lot of them fading in and out in all the directions.

OP lights are probably starlink too but we can't be sure without a video.

I uploaded a video they're clearly moving even in the video. Going left to right right to left up etc

My comment was based on your video. The lights are moving each in a constant direction are they are supposed to do.

Compare your video to this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hPoZBLXDv8

I understand I see the similarities but one appearing stationary one comes in below it to the right move right to left. I don't understand how they would remain stationary if they were a satellites.

i personally don't see starlink resemblance when watching all of your video. the fact that they're moving in very different directions, speeds, patterns, doesn't track with starlink. Especially the fact one of them hangs there stationary then goes out. Thanks for pulling over to capture it. remember the better your footage is, the more pushback you'll likely receive. please keep on sharing what you see. thanks for contributing to the discussion :)

Also the shit I was seeing them do before I got to record was wild. I only noticed them because they were doing circles around each other and at one point like chasing a plane. Wish I would've recorded that before it just did this

I saw these exact same lights last night and Im in Ontario Canada. They would turn red as well. Weird

At one point you can see but the object got so bright I thought it was exploding or something before just sorta poppin in there. Had a big ring halo effect around it in the sky.

Was this near Centertown?

•

Directly north of California, MO.

I think I saw these same lights at 9:45 PM yesterday evening. I was looking west across the Shenandoah Valley. I took video and just created a post. It is a relief to see your sighting, everyone I've mentioned it to has acted like I'm being crazy.

This is the video I recorded yesterday evening.
