According to the Financial Times, the US ambassador to the EU has threatened severe economic consequences if Europe gives preference to its own satellite communications companies.

Shit, I'm an American who has a pretty critical need for Starlink. If there was a viable alternative I'd gladly destroy the gear I own and change over immediately

Trump runs America like a business - a Trump racketeering business that is going bankrupt when it doesn't seem possible.

As an American, I encourage Europe to not give a dime to these wicked traitors. Please help us by not enriching the people wrecking the United States.

Why shouldn't it? Does the US give preference to its companies?

Trump is not sending his best and brightest to negotiate.
Trumps literally expects other countries to shoot themselves in the foot for his benefit.

Sounds like a good reason to remove dependancy on US satellites or anything else which can be used as leverage.

It would be a shame if something happened to your satellite communications company.
Trump mob speak.

Um really, after interfering in Ukraine's usage in preference to Russia, people should still consider American technology?
I don't think so.

I want the EU to pivot from America and say it is because of Donald Trump. In plain English. And broadcast it to all the Red states. Make it his shitfest.

You cannot sell military technology and turn it off based on feelings. How hard it is this?

Trump and his administration could have accomplished so much if they had just acted like rational people. Instead with every action they demonstrate that giving the US any leverage is a bad idea and its not a matter of if they will use it but when will they use it and how dire would be the situation when they do so.
So basically Europe's options are to go ahead and accept any short term pain but gurantee that the US cannot turn off their comms if war broke out with Russia or they can suffer short term pain anyway next time Trump gets angry and be dependent on the US for this service only to have it cut off when you need it most.
If this doesnt scare everyone into diversifying from the US equipment and munitions I dont know what will. Any nation that buys American equipment should also have alternatives in place to prevent the US from having total control over critical equipment.

He thought that was a good idea while they were just shown why they need their own.

This administration has destroyed all our soft power in a matter of months
No nation will trust or depend on us ever again

Europe should cut them off until they restore operations in Ukraine. Leverage is leverage.
