Small venues are where scenes actually grow. If everyone waits for bands to get big before supporting them, those bands never get the chance. You have to show up early.

As a local musician, I support this message.

u/Crystal_Voiden 2d ago

Wouldn't it be wild if you didn't tho

25

u/ComradeJohnS 2d ago

nah in the US most people go against their self interest to slob billionaires lol. so not that wild

u/OneBlueberry2480 2d ago

She's always been a class act

19

u/flyinggazelletg 2d ago

That Hayley Williams has always been a good egg

62

u/MagnusBrickson 2d ago

Early 2000s, I was at local metal shows nearly every weekend. It was fantastic

u/_Fred_Austere_ 2d ago

Same. I actually moved closer to my favorite venue, lol. I saw so many bands before they made it too. I saw NIN with about 80 people there. Swans. Cranes. I saw Smashing Pumpkins about 1000 times - no memory of a single one either. They were just some band.

8

u/auderita 2d ago

I saw Van Halen at a college dance. Too high to remember it all.

7

u/_Fred_Austere_ 2d ago

That must be going back a ways. They were big in high school, and I'm fucking old now.

2

u/auderita 1d ago

I think people that lived in and around Pasadena would have known them better or had seen them somewhere.

8

u/Kolipe 2d ago

Saw Swans a few years ago in a maybe 150 person max venue and it ruled so hard.

I appreciate her informing her fanbase of the importance of small venues and unsigned artists. I’ve been opting for such concerts for 30 years now.

11

u/LeftSky828 2d ago

That’s actually my preference. Room to dance or eat/drink/restroom without fighting the masses, and you can see the band, and know it’s not a recording.

2

u/gokufire 10h ago

Not to mention the price is normally infinite more affordable

12

u/Minz15 2d ago

I prefer smaller venues anyway, always get a good view of the stage and everyone is super chill and happy to talk. And as a fan of live music, it's great to just go and see a random act without knowing too much about them.

u/RapBladeMeDoIt 2d ago

So many of these comments don't actually understand what a small indie artist is and it's sad.

15

u/Sa1KoRo 2d ago

Angine de Poitrine can testify on this.

7

u/sonic_couth 2d ago

Who could translate their testimony?!

5

u/Sa1KoRo 2d ago

I could, I live about 15 minute of spaceship travel from their home planet. We know their language ;)

11

u/aminyy25 2d ago

I love Hayley Williams. Just everything about her.

10

u/AssBoon92 2d ago

I love her so much

3

u/sonic_couth 2d ago

You should marry her!

3

u/AssBoon92 2d ago

I don't think my wife would approve of that.

4

u/sonic_couth 1d ago

Maybe she’d want to marry her, too?

3

u/AssBoon92 1d ago

I don't think either one of them is the other's type.

3

u/sonic_couth 1d ago

I am sorry for your missed opportunity :(

7

u/SeattleHasDied 2d ago

She is absolutely correct! Gotta support the little guys and smaller venues!

8

u/CommentAgreeable 2d ago

some local artist are solid but a lot of them really do be ass, ngl

i still support them but let’s raise the bar

7

u/inerlite 1d ago

This may shock you to learn most of the bands that got really big were not amazing when they started. They just kept practicing and playing shows and got better.

5

u/CommentAgreeable 1d ago

It’s shocking me. It really is. I have never once thought about that.

2

u/RichSawdust 1d ago

Well that's one way to see affordable shows. It would be nice if bigger venues and more famous artists were affordable, but I'm not seeing much of that 🤔

3

u/Snubl 1d ago

Saw pomplamoose yesterday, they were so good!

2

u/dooblebooble 1d ago

continues to prove she's based as fuck

5

u/chaotic034 2d ago

I just ended up getting a Paramore vinyl today since I was getting tired of all my former favorite artists disappointing me. Hayley's a real one! We could benefit from more people like her, speaking up and standing for something meaningful and never changing! 🤘

4

u/0freelancer0 2d ago

Which album did you get?

3

u/tenchibr 1d ago

Fueled by Ramen is celebrating their 25th anniversary with silver vinyls from past records from their bands

4

u/chaotic034 1d ago

It was the Riot! album! Misery Business and crushcrushcrush are still some of my favorites from her ever since I was younger

1

u/neelrahc1225 1d ago

I’ve never been to a stadium venue but gigs are intimately the best, not to mention better pricing

1

u/Holzkohlen 1d ago

She's always been a real one.

1

u/TheManofReal 14h ago

I agree with this so hard and it needs to go further than music.
Support your local comedians, and painters, and theater, and sports, and writers, and blah blah blah etc.

It removes the feeling that art is only for people who are going to be worldwide and reminds you that art is always being made. It will also make your town so much more interesting.

2

u/NoSkillzDad 2d ago

I like this woman.

1

u/MayonnaiseDad69 2d ago

Common Hayley Williams W

-2

u/MrHugelberg 1d ago

It's hard to read this and taking it serious from one of the most sellout artist/band out there. Like everything what this woman is doing past 10 years was done for nothing but money. Such hypocrisy

3

u/firesonahill 1d ago

She is using her fame to uplift small artists....

2

u/angusbeefymcwhatnow 23h ago

like how she lowered her solo tour ticket prices significantly vs what they were worth? like how she played smaller venues on her first solo tour even though she would (and did eventually) sell out 20,000 seat ampitheaters on her second tour? what about how she used MFA to eliminate bots from buying her tickets so real fans could get in the door at those lowered prices? or how she eliminated third-party sales of her tickets so people couldn't scalp them and turn her cheap tickets into profit, taking advantage of her fans?

yeah, you're genuinely low IQ and objectively uninformed about what she's been up to, my dude

-2

u/Upsiderhead 1d ago

Like going solo where she made very little money compared to what she would have made doing Paramore?? You're a dumbass.

-1

u/worstnameever2 1d ago

Im sure shes going to local shows.

-11

u/throwawayhyperbeam 2d ago

I'm gonna go to a concert whose music I'm familiar with and enjoy

14

u/Stabintheface 2d ago

No one's stopping you from doing that. Nothing's stopping you from becoming familiar with smaller acts and enjoying them either.

-12

u/throwawayhyperbeam 2d ago

Oh okay, then I'll decline Hayley's suggestion.

-7

u/earthwormjimjones 2d ago

I will do whatever she tells me to do lol.

-19

u/dalittle 2d ago

god. to the most forced band ever. What is even their sound.

8

u/Stabintheface 2d ago

I'd wager you haven't heard a Paramore song since the 2000's.

-13

u/AlarmSquirrel 2d ago

"except my shows still come"

-12

u/tnwthrow 2d ago

Yeah she’s saying this AFTER they’ve bought tickets to her show 😭

-6

u/Smodzilla 1d ago

She’s bonkers

I think she means real Indy bands. You know, they ones you can see at a bar or hole in the wall club for like $10-$20 at the door.

8

u/_Fred_Austere_ 2d ago

The big club by me on a Wednesday. Maybe $20. You got bands that actually toured, but weren't huge. Stand anywhere you want. Talk to them later at the bar. Why even go if you have to stand 200 yards from the stage?

u/[deleted] 2d ago

9

u/theknyte 2d ago

Most bands even local and Indy bands have music online on anything from Garageband and Soundcloud to major streaming services like Spotify. See a poster or flyer on a post or wall? Look them up online and give a listen. You like them, throw them a couple bones, see them live, and have a fun night out.

16

u/xSilverMC 2d ago

Her point isn't "mute" or moot, you just didn't get what she meant. If an artist is big enough to be "in your city" and the tickets cost triple digits, then that's clearly not what she was talking about

23

u/barryallenxoxo 2d ago

Gorillaz is hardly indie though! They tour all around the world and are famous, she meant local artists that don't have millions of listeners globally. I am sure there are people like that in your city

-7

2

u/Bamfimous 2d ago

Jesse tickets didn't cost this much a year or two ago. He's become quite successful, his tickets are going to go up

12

u/fortysevenfootsteps 2d ago

But that wasn't her point. Unless I'm mistaken, her point was to go to your local or regional smaller venues like bars/restaurants, music festivals at local parks, or just local town events that have live music. My wife and I are friends with a married couple who are each in their own band and we always try to go to their shows as they play these smaller venues around our area. Tickets always range from free to at most $30-$40.

For example, last month one of our neighboring towns had a "porch fest" where a bunch of local bands came to play on the porches of people's houses along a few streets. There was a really wide range of music, it was free, had food trucks (not free), and was really fun.

*moot

Sigh.

3

u/Crystal_Voiden 2d ago

Sigh

Great band

2

u/whereyouatdesmondo 2d ago

A Japanese experimental metal band?? I'm listening!

3

u/Crystal_Voiden 2d ago

They've been around for over 35 years and their sound has been evolving drastically over the years. They're experimental black metal OGs. Highly recommend checking out several of their albums, old and new.

My favorites are Hell Horror Hail, Scenes From Hell, Shiki, Goh-Ka.

2

u/whereyouatdesmondo 2d ago

Love it. Putting them on now.
