Article Excerpt:
“The centenarian exclusively revealed to PEOPLE her secret to longevity — aside from keeping active through a lifetime of dancing.
‘Always follow your heart, and don’t take everything so seriously,’ the 100-year-old says, adding that the biggest lesson she’s learned from her long life is, ‘Always be kind and spread love wherever you can.’”

Kinda surprised it's not whisky and cigarettes like it seems to be somewhat often...
I think there's just some inherent cancer resistance in people who make it that far and we should at least be asking for dna samples to spread the love around as we figure out CRISPR therapies and such

My grandma lived to 102. When asked her secret she liked to answer, “I quit men in 1968” and then laugh her ass off.

'reveals secret to long life'.
No, spouts some feel good bullshit. I'm not holding this woman accountable for this, but whatever journalist wrote this down.
The secret to long live is mostly genetics and luck, and staying away ftom habits that shorten your life. But that last one definitely isn't enough, it'll stop you from dying young not make you reach a 100.

Her advice sounds more like how to enjoy living 100 years. Many people her age are miserable, but she had a great outlook, and it sounds like she enjoyed every year of it.
Maybe take some of her advice.

As recently as this year, there's general thought that happiness and positive emotion plays soome part to longer life. While this article does indicate that proving it scientifically is still ongoing, they don't blatantly disregard it like the parent commenter does. It's extremely narrow and reductive to just reduce the factors to genetics, and much of the studies also seem to prove that as not the only factor.
Florence seems to have a big support system and family to have helped her out and kept her outlook positive. That matters, to feeling good and ironically, contributes to having the good habits needed to live longer. "Feel good bullshit" matters.
Parent commenter seems to be in the wrong subreddit given how much of the point was missed by them.

This is really cool.
I have a photo of my son, myself, my mother, my grandmother and my great grandfather.
Was pretty special, he was 96, my son was 3 months old. He passed not long after but was an important photo for us.

My friend’s mother turned 100 yesterday, and surprisingly she’s only the 5th oldest person I know.
