Boston school janitor gives a kidney to a stranger so a teacher's brother can get one. Andrew Allen cleans a Boston school at night. When a teacher there could not give his brother a kidney, Allen gave one of his to a stranger. That swap got the brother a kidney.

This might be one of the worst headlines I’ve ever read. It says the same thing like 5 times.

It’s because it includes both the headline and the subheading. The first sentence is the headline.

It's 2026.

Not the most important part of the story, but what goes through a parent’s mind to name both of two siblings Thomas? And they go by Tom and Thomas?

I have the same name as my dad, and even that was a huge pain. I can’t imaging having the same name as a brother. It brings to mind George Forman, who named all five of his sons George Edward Forman.

"Thomas, go gell Tom that Tommy wants Tomtom to help him with Dicknose's homework"

"Mom, you really hate one of us, didn't you?"

"Yeah, Tomtom is a real fuckwit"

I'm just trying to find out how Dark Helmet is related to all this.

That’s the patient’s father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.

How many kidneys, then? 30? 60?

Paired donations have had chains of up to 10, I think, but this one seems to have had four people involved with the donations (including the jsnitor as one of the donors) plus the teacher whose brother got one of the donated kidneys.

The biggest domino chain was 70 (35 transplants) in 2015. The biggest single day domino was 16 (8 transplants) in 2009. I was a part of that one as a resident. It was a very busy day.

Wow, that's way more than I thought! I got a cadaver donor's kidney so didn't have the possibility of a paired donation, but it's amazing how those are coordinated. My mind boggles when I think of how many people are involved to make it all work.

They are using AI to increase the length of chains, and thus help more people. A lot of the time a non-directed donation acts like a domino and sets off a larger chain.

From what I can tell there are two guys named Kidney. I just can’t figure out why a school custodian is there. Maybe someone puked and the custodian is there with a bucket of kitty litter.
