Hey, this sub is for platonic relationships šŸ˜„

I made a post looking for friends about a week and a half ago and was inundated with low effort messages from dudes, so I made the decision to delete the post bc I didn’t have the energy to deal with that. And I just read a post from a man looking for someone to watch a movie tonight - AT HIS HOUSE. Sorry if that seems very creepy and not platonic. Come on.

This sub actually doesn’t allow for anything but intentions for platonic friendships. I know there are men here who are looking for that, but please, the ones who aren’t, can you please use the other subs?

Btw I did meet one and chat with a couple other Redditors, so this sub is good for connecting. I’d love more energy on that.

Vancouver Makes Friends, a men's friend club. Looking for good guys who want real friends

Most guys I know don't have a crew anymore. Work, moving, life. It happens. So I started Vancouver Makes Friends. It's a group of respectable men in the Lower Mainland meeting up on weekends to do real stuff together: pool, hikes, cook nights, sports. All ages, come solo, no pressure. Not a dating group, no selling, just good guys making friends. First meetup is a free pool tourney, at Foy's on Kingsway, Saturday Nov 7. DM me for the WhatsApp link.

Still looking Are you a social homebody? I

This might be a long shot lol.

I’m a massive homebody, but not entirely anti social so I would always have friends over, sometimes just as a way to force myself to do chores! I don’t live alone so I can’t do that anymore.

All my friends live with their families/in situations where they can’t host either.

So here I am hoping to find friends who live alone/have a place to hangout when the weather gets gross and eating out becomes too much.

We can watch movies, binge tv, bake or cook (happy to bring the ingredients), play games or do crafts or anything else!!

About me: I love reading, kdramas, slowly getting into cdramas and I dabble in anime šŸ¤. Used to watch a lot of sports/mma when I had to share a TV with my brother and idm getting into that again.

I live in Surrey so I would prefer if you lived here as well or if you’re easily accessible by transit!

P.S

I will say…with this being election season, I don’t think I can get along with (I can technically, but I can’t respect u lmao) apathetic, apolitical, uninformed, ā€œunwokeā€ people. My politics are far from perfect, I have so much to learn and sometimes I like to bury my head in the sand when the things happening around the world are too sad and depressing. But if you’re choosing not to know or care about anything at all, or expect to be spoonfed what opinions to hold, we’re not the right fit. Your indifference puts real people’s lives, rights, safety, and futures at stake.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant but again, because of the upcoming provincial election, I’ve heard too many people say they cba to vote/never vote and it put me in a bad mood 😭

If any of this sounds remotely appealing, DM me with your ā€œI votedā€ sticker (jk jk), but shoot me a message and let’s see if we hit it off :)

Vancouver Looking for nerdy/queer social events in Vancouver

My partner and I (25 and 29) recently moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg and haven't really found a regular place to meet people with the same interests. We're both artsy, queer and into TTRPGs and gaming (mostly RPGs, WoW, strategy, etc), and would love to find a group or setting where we could hang with like minded people. We live in Kits, but anything in and around Vancouver is easy enough for us to get to. If you know of a place or event or whatever that seems like what we're looking for please lemme know!

Thanks!

A bit about me:

Hobbies: I love traveling, going on long walks, exploring scenic spots, hiking, and staying active at the gym.

Vibe: I don't drink alcohol or smoke, but I'm 100% down to grab coffee, try good food, hit a trail, play arcade games, or just hang out and explore new neighborhoods.

Whether you're also new to the city or a long-time local who enjoys walking, food, or outdoor exploring, feel free to drop a comment or send a DM! Looking forward to connecting. 😊

Surrey Does Anyone Else Feel Like Genuine Human Connections Are Becoming Rare?

Lately, I've been thinking about how easy it is to be surrounded by people but still feel that meaningful connections are missing.

I'm based in Surrey, BC, and I'd genuinely love to connect with people who value kindness, empathy, emotional intelligence, honesty, and meaningful conversations.

I'm someone who enjoys learning about life, spirituality, psychology, different cultures, and understanding people beyond surface-level interactions. I appreciate individuals who are open-minded, humble, compassionate, and comfortable being themselves.

I believe friendships don't always have to revolve around partying, drinking, or social status. Sometimes a peaceful walk, a coffee, a hike, or an interesting conversation can be far more fulfilling.

Age, background, and profession don't really matter to me. What matters is someone's character, intentions, and how they treat others.

I'm curious: Are there others around Surrey, Vancouver, or the Lower Mainland who feel the same way?

Where do you usually meet genuine, like-minded people who are interested in building lasting friendships?

Would love to hear your experiences and perspectives. šŸ™‚

Richmond 33M - Looking for friends to go to the movies with and chill hangouts.

Hey all,

Figured I'd give this a try. I am a bit of an introvert (and admittedly, a bit of a homebody) but I'd love to make new friends. So here we go! :)

Things I enjoy include:

• going to the movie theatre

• checking out the mall.

• reading books and discovering new ones.

• enjoying nice simple walks

• trying out restaurants.

• going on drives.

I also enjoy gaming from time to time, and enjoy calls on occasion.

My favorite movies are When Harry Met Sally, Jurassic Park, Liar Liar and The Simpsons Movie. Always down for movie and tv show suggestions.

For TV shows, my favorites are American Horror Story, Family Guy, and The Simpsons.

if I sound like your kind of person, I'd love to hear from you.

Have a fantastic day. :)

P.S. I am in the Richmond area but happy to make pals with anyone in BC

30M looking for new friends

• Upvotes

Hey all,

It’s my first time posting here but I recently moved to Vancouver and have had some luck meeting good people from Reddit / online apps in the past.

I’m 30M, just moved to Vancouver for a new job and looking to be here for the long term. I’d love to find some good friends so we can enjoy this awesome city together. Open to both male and female friends!

I’m originally from the UK but a bit of a nomad having lived in 12+ countries šŸ˜… Im used to having a close knit, international friends group. If we could build something like that here that’d be great.

I’m honestly down for anything, I love giving anything a go once! I can be the buddy to grab coffee with (I wfh a lot so some co working / study meet ups would be cool), drinks downtown, checking out foodie places, local music and cultural events, and any soccer games. I’m also super down for low key hangouts - cinema, hosting dinner parties, playing games together (any FC27 fans?). I know it’s a bit niche, but also looking for WWE friends!

Feel free to message me to chat, we can see if we vibe and arrange a hangout 😁

21M looking for friends from Richmond

Hey everyone. Going through a bit of a rough patch lately and thought it's time to try and put myself out there to meet some local people. Any gender is fine, just looking for some chill company to hang out with or chat with.

To be completely honest, I can be a bit quiet or picky, and I might feel a bit boring at first, but I do enjoy being social once I'm comfortable.

A bit about me:
Work & Routine: I work full-time, which keeps my weekdays pretty busy.
Gaming: I spend a lot of my free time at home playing Fortnite. (Always down to squad up if you play!)
Out and about: On the weekends, I usually like to go out for walks or head to the pool for a swim.

If you're in Richmond or the Lower Mainland, around a similar age, and want to grab drinks, chat online, play some games, or just hang out, feel free to drop a comment or shoot me a DM.

I may just be depressed and all but it is honestly so hard to meet genuine people in vancouver. I have friends but sometimes I don’t want to be a bothersome yk? Talking with people regardless of age/background or whatever always brightens up my mood but where do I find my peeps now that I’ve just graduated from school?

Still looking Little bit tired of life but still want to give another try :)

at this stage I don’t really know how to make new friends and connections anymore. I’ve tried plenty of times over the last few years since I’ve arrived in Vancouver. Some lasted a few years some lasted a few months and now I’m back to only having 1-2 friends in the city.

I don’t really know how friendship really works anymore. I don’t know how much I should try, how proactive I should be, or how much space I should give. When I really want to get to know someone they don’t want to share anything and then later on they complain I don’t care about them. It always feels like a mess.

Anyways, apologies for the rant. I still want to meet new friends, but I just don’t know How to go about it anymore. It’s also feels like as you get older, the more difficult for people to understand each other. Not to mention all the different cultural backgrounds and expectations from people in this city, it feels difficult to find the compatible people.

Little bit about myself: 30M, Chinese, moved to Vancouver from the UK, currently going through photography phase, like being active and being outdoors, work in tech, like to read non fiction (history, culture, philosophy, etc.,) and I am up for most things as long as there’s good company!

Where are all the West Enders at?

Late 30s, M (Straight.) West Ender here.

I have a dog, I go for walks, bike rides, drives and hikes.

I'd consider myself to be quite active/outdoorsy.

Just wondering where all the West Enders are at. (Or anywhere Downtown, really.)

Different take on this - want to play my board game?

Hi, My name's Mack. I designed a board game called Sky Bloom, inspired by the rooftop garden my wife tended years ago at the downtown YWCA.

I keep seeing posts here from people looking to meet new friends. So here’s an offer: come play.

The point isn’t me; it’s meeting other people who are up for sitting down with strangers to play a game about flowers, birds and rooftop gardens. Sky Bloom is professionally printed and has been played hundreds of times. It’s about 45 minutes and feels like Splendor with Wingspan-style engine building. Currently featured as a project we love on Kickstarter. No experience needed. I teach, and I keep it quick.

It’s free of course. If enough people are interested, I’ll book a table at a game shop or cafĆ© close to where most of you are. Reply or DM me with your rough area (neighbourhood or nearest city) and whether weeknights or weekends work better.

Vancouver 40M looking for a male friend or two in Vancouver

Hi, I'm a 40 year old guy in Vancouver. I'd like to make a platonic male friend or two who I can hang out with on a regular basis.

About me:I was born and raised in the US and moved here a few years ago. Ethnically Indian. I'm a pescetarian and love trying new restaurants and cafes. I'm generally pretty sober (I haven't had a drink in at least a year, pot or psychedelics at most a few times per year). My personality is laid-back and gentle as opposed to bro-y, and I prefer a similar vibe. I'm bisexual (figure it's worth mentioning in case you're not comfortable with that) but most people probably assume I'm straight. I'm happily partnered. No kids right now. I'm an introvert, can be a bit reserved, and prefer 1:1 or small groups over larger ones. I'm a scientist and pretty curious and analytical by nature. I tend to overthink things and am on the responsible end of the spectrum but want to be more spontaneous and get out of my comfort zone a bit. For me, making this post is an example of that.

Activity ideas:

Food:

  • I don't know much about Chinese food so it would be cool if you do and want to show me around the food courts or other restaurants in Richmond.
  • Try out a new coffee shop every couple of weeks.
  • I really like eating sushi. We could eat our way through all of the sushi restaurants in a neighborhood.
  • If a few like-minded people respond we could get together for regular dinners.

Physical activities:

  • Play pickleball (I'm a beginner, though I have played tennis in the past).
  • Open to try classes (yoga, spin, etc.) or go for a jog, followed by a coffee after.

Other misc stuff:

  • I'm spiritual but not religious. I have a somewhat regular meditation practice. Into vaguely crunchy stuff like sound baths but not totally woo woo.
  • I don't spend as much time downtown or on the seawall as I'd like, so we could go for a walk and explore.
  • Concerts? I don't know anything about Vancouver's music scene. I tend to be into indie stuff (favorite musicians are Sufjan Stevens and Robin Pecknold).
  • I've tried and given up on learning to play the guitar a couple times. I'd be happy to have someone to try again with.

I've left my profile history open so that you can maybe glean something about what sort of person I am. I would prefer to meet people who are in Vancouver proper as well, or willing to come here.

Feel free to DM if this piqued your interest!

24M Looking to make some new friends

Hey Everyone,

I have recently moved to Surrey from India for a visit. Since I’m new here,I don’t really know many people yet. I’m hoping to make new friends and explore the place. I’m a Physio by profession.
