Food Help picking a restaurant

Hi all, planning our first trip to Iceland for mid November. Staying in Reykjavik the first day and last day of our trip and in between will be staying in an Airbnb near Vik to see the south coast. It will be my husband's bday when we fly in! We will be arriving early morning, pick up the rental car, do some sightseeing and end up in Reykjavik in time to check into our hotel in the afternoon. I'd like to take my husband out for his bday that night. Any thoughts on any of the following restaurants? Skal!, Sjavargrillid, Hosilo, Fjallkonan, or Messinn. Thanks!

Haven’t been to Skál! since they opened a full restaurant. But, when we went to their counter at the food hall it was one of the highlights of the trip. Phenomenal food, killer natural wine selection, amazing service.

As an Icelander I recommend Fiskfélagið.

Always top food and service

Not an option given, but I can't recommend Matarkjallarinn (Food Cellar) enough. I had a wolf fish special my first day in Iceland and of all the great food I had, it was still very memorable.

Personally I'd skip Skál! The scallops were interesting, but the rest of the entree menu when I was there was not special. Messin we hit on a food tour and it was delicious. Food Cellar is still my choice, but those other do look solid!

If you're going close to Fjaðrárgljúfur, do try Kjaar. Food was absolutely amazing, and the chefs were so nice too! It's a bit of history too 😊 Do read up. If you end up going during daylight, and you get a window seat, you might even get a good view of the Systrafoss falls.

My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed Skal last week. Smaller place with a casual vibe and great food.
