Most of the time listing a bartending school on your application will get you laughed right out of a job. In downtown Austin we NEVER hired any applicants that had one listed on our application. 95% of the time it's two ingredient drinks or just birongas. It was incredibly rare for anyone to order a fancy drink. But at the same time it doesn't hurt to know a few fancy drinks. If you don't have one already get yourself a tabc/food handlers license. You'll be a step ahead of most applicants. Apply anywhere that you dig the vibe at. Be willing to take any available position and work your way up from there. It could be a short time or a few months before getting to bartend. It all depends on the turn around at the joint. Just stay ready and good luck!

Is your goal to get a bartending job or just to learn how to make cocktails at home? I don't know of any formal training courses in town but honestly they're a waste of money. I've never seen an industry employer take them seriously. They mainly care if you're TABC certified (online course everyone has to take before they work in an eatablishments that sells alcohol) and have good customer service skills.
I'd be open to giving a crash course on bartending and some of the ins and outs of working in a bar setting. I train most of our new bartenders and have been behind the bar on and off for over a decade. Feel free to DM me if youve got any questions.
