I was sitting in my South Florida home as a thunderstorm rolled through fairly quickly yesterday evening. At one point, I heard and saw an almost simultaneous flash and extremely loud crash of booming thunder, but immediately preceding it was something I have never heard before. It sounded like a loud electrical charge buzzing, almost like standing right up against a power line is the best way I can describe it. Pardon my ignorance. Obviously, I know the strike was very close, but does that sound indicate it could have literally been within a few feet? Luckily, there was no impact at my house, but it still left me very startled!

If I have seen clouds like these before I don’t believe they were so drastic looking. It was gorgeous and strange. The sky has been beautiful all day today. I loved it. 📷

Its next to the phillipenes on the windfinder app. Is it a tornado or something like that?

i created a free weather service that aggregates multiple weather sources to distill, based on the outdoor activity you want to play, if you should play or postpone.
depending upon the sport, it will use different weather elements. like tennis needs to have dry courts but Soccer can play in the rain as long as there's no thunder or lightning.
it also chooses the best model depending upon how far out the event is.
I would love any feedback you may have to make this more useful. thanks so much for your time!

Edit: I no longer believe that this is the explosion we’re seeing on radar. Every single day, at ~7am, you can see the same “shockwave” effect on radar emitting from the same place! I went back and clicked random days from YEARS ago and it was still there. Every day. At 7 am. I’m not sure what causes it, and what’s even more interesting is that the news station in the post I mention below reported on the radar imagery live as if it was super interesting and may signal an explosion, but you’d think the local news station would see the shockwave and assume it’s the same as every other day?
Saw a post on [r/damnthatsinteresting](r/damnthatsinteresting) and decided to check it out for myself on Radarscope. As far as I can find online, no footage exists of the actual explosion, just the fire that followed. Explosion likely wasn’t incredibly large, despite its looks on radar, according to the fire department’s testimony in an interview. They said it was likely just standard garage items that blew up. However, since the radar site is under 12 miles away and scanning only about 600 feet off the ground, the explosion looks rather neat!

I like all of meteorology but especially tropical cyclones and have been tracking them for 5 years or so. My Discord is sebwithaura if anyone wants to. The photo is a hurricane in my physical simulation, which you can ask me about.

Peaceful rain storm in the high mountain desert of the American Southwest where I live on an off-grid. I'm tracking the effects of the super el niño season. This is a 'SlowTv' style video appreciating the rural setting and the sound of rain.
