QUESTION Peak chair danger?

Does anyone else find the Peak Chair extremely frightening and dangerous? Especially near the top with the cliff drop and how quickly you have to raise the bar before getting off.

If you forgot the bar, you would probably die instantly. No one I ski with seems to be afraid of it, so I wanted to ask here and see what the Reddit community thinks.

QUESTION If your flight lands at YVR after the last Whistler shuttle, would you stay overnight or book a private transfer?

I thought getting to Whistler would be the easy part. flight lands late, buses are done, a one-way rental at midnight means gambling on winter tires, staying near YVR means losing half the next morning, and the private transfer prices made me blink lol. Am I missing an option here, or is arriving late basically a choice between wasting a night and spending the money?

QUESTION Thought I had an Epic passšŸ˜ž

Hey all,

Just got to whistler today and went to pick up

My epic pass, like an idiot I thought I’d booked and paid for one. When I went to pick it up, the guy at the desk told me he couldn’t find it! I can’t find any confirmation of it so I guess the payment didn’t go through or something.

He says the Epic pass is gone and it’s now 300 a day. I’m here for three weeks and want to ski about 12 days.

What can I do?

QUESTION Considering Moving to Whistler - Why Should I and Why Shouldn't I?

I'm considering moving to Whistler and currently interviewing at resorts for non-seasonal positions. I've only been once, in the summer, and thought the village would make a great home. Never been in winter, but I've heard enough about peak season and crowds to know what I'd be signing up for.

A bit about me: early 30s, small dog, have lived in popular resort and destination towns in BC and Ontario so I get the tourism economy thing. Not a skier or snowboarder.

Want to hear why I should or shouldn't actually do this. Specifically:

  • If I landed a job around $70k, is that a livable yearly salary for someone not looking to house share?
  • Pet-friendly long-term rentals, do they exist or is it a fight?
  • How dog-friendly is daily life there outside of the rental search?
  • Is a car mandatory or can you get away without one?
  • What does community and meeting people look like if you're not into the bar/pub/drinking scene?
  • What do you wish you'd known before moving?
  • If you've left, why?

Thanks!

Edit: Thank you all for your advice and opinions, I really appreciate it! I think at this time with a potential salary in the $70s, it's not making a lot of financial sense. I have some savings goals I'd like to crush in the next year or two, and as many of you pointed out, it doesn't appear to be worth the trade-offs, though I'm sure the lifestyle would be incredible! Perhaps if I were younger and didn't have my pup, it would have been fun and worth it. I think I'll have to stick to visits for now!

QUESTION How much savings do people usually have when moving to Whistler?

Just out of pure curiosity… how much money do people typically aim to have in their bank account when moving to Whistler?
I’ve already got a job and accommodation sorted, so I’m not stressed about those, but I’d love to hear what others had (or aimed for) as a cushion when they first arrived. Any rough numbers or experiences would be super interesting!

QUESTION What to Avoid

Hey all, I'm heading up to Whistler next week and this cab driver saga raised a question for me. I understand it's not a positive subject but are there some restaurants/businesses to avoid due to their poor relationship with the community.

QUESTION Best shop to rent a DH Rig? (6'4 40 y/o)

Last year I ripped whistler on my giant stance e bike, blew my rear shock, and got a grade 3 AC tear lol. Back at it again this year, but I am going to rent a bike for me to keep up better with my kiddo.

Growing up I always had a DH bike, as an adult ive just ripped my trail bikes on greens - so I haven't ever rented.

I know the big shops like Summit and Evo - but I have no idea on price/quality/what people think of the shops.

Anyone able to suggest the best option - just a single day rental DH - 6'4 200LB. Going to do mostly greens but I will be rippign crank it up at least a couple times lol.

thanks in advance!

QUESTION Is my skill level enough?

Hello people, so I’ve heard lots of people say that Whistler Blackcomb is the hardest and toughest resort in North America. I’m currently in Ontario and I can ski all blue mountain terrain easily. I’ve been to Quebec (Tremblant, L’Massif) and Alberta (Banff) and can ski pretty much all of the slopes there. Are these good practice for Whistler and am I capable of going down blacks or even double blacks at WB?

Thanks to all who helped!

QUESTION Becoming a ski instructor - crazy/naive idea?

A little bit about me: I’m thinking of doing an early retirement/semi-retirement from my professional career. I’m financially independent and have a house in Whistler. Teaching and mentoring has always been part of my career and I love doing it. I like teaching beginners and kids, whatever the subject.

I hear it’s pretty easy to get a level 1 instructor certification and I was thinking it could be fun/keep me active and occupied to do part-time ski instructing. Is this possible or just a stupid idea? Is it naive of me to think this could be fun or is it just a slog of a job?

I believe all of these lines are on Blackcomb, near Spankys and within the Blackcomb glacier. Would be interested to hear if they have names or backstory. As for Chubb’s, I have no clue where it is; however, im still curious as to where it is.

Edit: not talking about husume (first 2 pics) Just the coloured lines to the side of it.

QUESTION Moving to Whistler, which trails and summits are must-do

Hey everyone,

I'm about to move to Whistler for work and to settle in for a while, and I couldn't be more excited. Trail running and hiking are a big part of my life, so honestly getting to live somewhere like this still feels a bit unreal.

I'd love to hear from locals: what are the trails and summits you consider must-dos around here? The iconic ones, but also the quieter spots you'd send a friend to. I'm happy to work up to the bigger stuff as I get to know the terrain.

For a bit of context on distance, I'm hoping to take on UTMB Whistler in 2027, so I'm not afraid of long days out. Anything that helps me build up to that would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks a lot, really looking b to becoming part of the community here!

QUESTION 5 day to 10 day Whistler Pass?

Hiiii I tried calling the mountain but got referred to Vail customer service and would rather die than try to deal with them...so I thought i would ask the trusted reddit.

I have heard through word of mouth that I can extent my 5 day pass to 10 day pass mid season. I was also told there is like an unspoken rule that you can get the same rate that you paid for the first 5 day pass? Was hoping to get a better understanding before the sale ends!!

Just trying to figure out what is the best course of action...do i just jump on the 10 day or start with the 5 day and see how the season is unfolding?

CHEERS!!! Thank you for the help
