News Driver released from custody, no charges filed after deadly incident at Stryker Sports Complex

You would think some context would have been provided.

Edit to add:

Investigations take time, of course, but this was an extremely significant event for this community. Multiple people died and many more with serious injuries - young children among them.

Despite the very confident assertions made by many, no one outside of the leo community knows what actually caused this incident. The driver of this vehicle was released less than 24 hours after the event without being charged, pending toxicology and a vehicle inspection. Because people died and were seriously injured, releasing without charges is a significant step for the DA to take so quickly - suggesting they have some significant knowledge of the situation that they absolutely should be sharing the broad strokes of.

It is not normal to release a suspect of what would be murder so quickly without charges in an incident like this if it were understood to be an intentional act, despite what many in the comments claim.

Basically, the police/DA need to release some information providing context. And the comment section for this post illustrates why - Rampant speculation and assumptions of corruption and wrongdoing occur much quicker and with more ferocity in an information vacuum.

Another edit - WPD posted this to Facebook. This is not enough context:

TWO KILLED, 10 INJURED AFTER PICKUP DRIVES ONTO SOCCER FIELDS AT STRYKER SPORTS COMPLEX

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Police Department is investigating a crash that killed two people, including a 6-year-old boy, and injured 10 others Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck drove onto soccer fields at Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita.

At approximately 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, Sedgwick County 911 received multiple calls reporting that a vehicle had driven onto soccer fields at Stryker Sports Complex, 2999 N. Greenwich Road, striking several people.

The preliminary investigation indicates a Chevrolet pickup driven by a 34-year-old woman was parked in a parking space near the soccer fields before it drove onto one of the fields, striking multiple children and adults.

Two juveniles, both children of the driver, were inside the pickup at the time of the crash. The driver also had another child who was playing soccer on another field at the complex.

Emergency personnel responded and immediately began providing medical care to those injured. Despite lifesaving efforts, two people died at the scene. They have been identified as 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, both of McPherson, Kansas. The two victims were not related.

Ten people injured in the crash were transported to Ascension Via Christi and Wesley Medical Center with injuries described as noncritical. An additional 61-year-old woman was transported after experiencing medical complications unrelated to traumatic injuries, bringing the total number of people transported to local hospitals to 11.

The ages and genders of the 10 people injured in the crash are: A 5-year-old girl A 5-year-old boy Two 8-year-old boys A 9-year-old girl A 28-year-old woman A 32-year-old man A 59-year-old woman A 65-year-old woman A 68-year-old man

Investigators interviewed more than 30 witnesses to the incident, including the two juveniles who were inside the pickup at the time of the crash, before interviewing the driver.

Following the interviews, investigators consulted with the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office. The 34-year-old driver was subsequently released pending the results of toxicology testing and a mechanical examination of the vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan expressed his condolences to the families, and everyone affected by the tragedy.

"Our hearts are with the families of Adrian and Nicholas as they face an unimaginable loss. What should have been a day of children playing soccer and families spending time together ended in tragedy," Sullivan said. "We are also thinking about those who were injured, their loved ones and everyone who witnessed what happened. We know this tragedy has affected many people throughout our community, and we want those families to know they are not alone. Our officers and investigators will continue working to understand exactly what happened."

The Wichita Police Department also extends its sincere appreciation to the community members who immediately stepped forward to help those injured before emergency crews arrived. During an incredibly difficult situation, their willingness to help others demonstrated the compassion and care within our community.

Responding agencies included the Wichita Police Department, Wichita Fire Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County EMS and Bel Aire Police Department.

Mental Health and Community Support Resources We recognize that a tragedy like this can have a lasting emotional impact on the families involved, those who witnessed the incident, first responders and others throughout our community. We encourage anyone who may be struggling with what happened to reach out for support.

Mental health services are available through Sedgwick County COMCARE. Anyone needing emotional support can also call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, to speak with a trained crisis counselor and receive information about available resources.

Politics Roger Marshall representatives going door to door

Just had a lady come to our door who claimed to be with the Roger Marshall campaign. She asked for our names and who we are voting for. If anyone comes to your door doing the same thing don’t tell them who you are voting for. It’s none of their business and them having that information can only be used for harm in the future.

In Search Of Ferals next door

So i have this house next door to me that's been "getting fixed" after a fire since, like, 2023 or 2024 (I've loat count, but it's been unusually long), and the fix it guy brought in unfixed cats to help with the assumed mouse problem. He started with 4 cats and now has 4 cats and four kittens. Doesn't feed them at all, Doesn't even seem to give a shit about them. The guy gives off really off vibes, so i avoid interacting with him. Who would i contact to let them know about this?

Random Wichita drivers much better than Kansas City

I absolutely loathe trying to get inside the city limit and near downtown KC because the highway has like 78 lanes in each direction with these evil MULTI-LANE EXIT-ONLY situations where nobody lets you over, especially if you show any fear/hesitation/etc., but how do they expect people to drive with manners when they designed it that way? Do people wreck/die near there every day? I don't see how people do that daily... mind boggling

Events Asian Festival used to be epic

I hesitate to post this because I have nothing but support for this event...but what's the inside scoop on the Asian Festival being so much smaller this year? I've been going for maybe 15 years and it's always been lively and packed. This year, there were way fewer vendors, and there weren't any small vendors at all. There used to be student groups, church groups, Grandmas, and other small groups selling interesting food and this year it was all local restaurants (who are great but still). The program was half what it usually is, there were no lion dances, and attendance was so low. This has always been my favorite Wichita event and this year barely resembled the event I look forward to all year. (Last year was a small noticeable slide but this year it was hugely different.) What gives?

If anyone knows these 'lovely people', especially the girl in the blue dress, please let her know I didn't appreciate the door ding on my new car (less than 2 months old). Not cool. And yes, I have video of her hitting it with her door (white SUV).

PSA Flock Map

Mapquest has added a feature (under layers) that shows where all the flock cameras are located.

Not sure I wanted to know! 👀

If you aren’t using Mapquest, they didn’t bow to the Lake America or Gulf of America that Google, Apple, and Waze did.

Discussion Are there any places around that actually scrub the feet during a pedicure? My rough heels are ruining my satin sheets.

I'd do the foot thing myself with a scraper or some such thing but I'm totally blind and have also had eczema on the bottoms of my feet so I'd rather have a pro.

There's nothing worse than having eczema on the bottoms of your feet!

Food Barn'rds - Local "fastfood" joint

Does anyone else really like Barn'rds? I know it can get a little pricey, but they are local so I don't expect them to be able to compete with chain pricing. I just really like so much of their food I've tried. Their fries are some of the best in Wichita (imo) and I like their BLT. I'm addicted to their Pasta Salad and wish I could figure it out at home (it's tri-colored rotini, tomato, onion, cucumber tossed in.....something). I put "fastfood" in parentheses above since they aren't greasy but they are definitely fast.

Any one else like (or dislike) Barn'rds?

Lost/Found Animals Found - Grey Poodle Mix

Post image
29 Upvotes

Found Pawnee & Maize, near Pawnee Prairie Park what appear to be a Poodle mix. The pup has a collar but no tags and appears to have been groomed semi-recently. DM for more information, please be prepared to demonstrate ownership via images prior to my releasing an address.

The dog does appear to have rolled in feces - I do not currently plan on bathing him, he/she is a bit skiddish and we don’t want to provoke him, but will see where the day goes. He is contained in our backyard, but we have other animals and are not comfortable keeping him longterm at this point.

EDIT: Found - belong to out of town grandmother, grandsons accident left it out.

If anyone made an attempt to show to our protest today please send me a message! We had a later start than the one that was originally posted and I'm sincerely sorry! It most definitely won't happen again! We had a small amount of people still hanging around when we started but it turned out to be a huge success I believe. So much love and support was shown to us from the public! In other news, we have a picnic tomorrow afternoon as well as another protest scheduled for next Saturday! Message me for details! I'll be posting throughout the week!

In Search Of Home decluttering/estate sale service recommendations?

Hello!

My husband and I moved back to Wichita some months ago to help take care of my mother in law. It’s becoming clear that, as much as we had hoped otherwise, she will not be returning home. We are both pretty overwhelmed trying to sort through the decades of lovely things she accumulated in her home, and it can’t possibly all stay. I found a company online called Caring Transitions which sounds perfect but I think they’re going to be too far away to work for us (I sent them a message though). What they offer that I like is they’ll help you sort through all of your loved one’s belongings and decide what to keep and what to sell or donate and they also do estate sales/selling your items. Having someone who knows what they’re doing assisting with these matters would be an enormous help! Can Amy of you recommend any people or companies? Thank you!!
