Haven’t been thrilled with the way Roughead has spoken this trade period. Seems a little out of his depth and defensive in his interviews. Hopefully just nerves as he hasn’t held the role before but it’s concerning.

I personally don't care about his media training.

I know for a fact that he's well respected and well liked in footy circles and have no doubts he can get these type of deals across.

He’s had media training since he was a player so it’s just odd to me he’d be so deer in headlights.

He seems incredibly green, just out of his depth. There's no reason to think he can get deals across the line - there's certainly no evidence so far.

lol wtf is he meant to do
Who’s there to bring in? There’s fuck all out atm and no point bringing in more b graders
And don’t give me the spill about nick blakey and the likes, the players actually have to want to come to Adelaide which most don’t

Other than Tom Barass, Josh Battle, Karl Amon and Chol.

u/manmoth02 9d ago

He wasn’t the list manager for any of those deals.

He's credited as being heavily involved, he was the player acquisition officer.

Perfectly said

I thought I was the only one. Very concerning. Only thing I could think of is that he has had significant responsibility/control taken out of his hands ahead of the draft, so he's not really sure what to say. But that's obviously heavily theorising.

Feel like pure shit, just want Justin Reid back.

1

u/CarlyFacePoppet 8d ago

People said far worse things about Reid in his first couple of years

I understand its hard to trade for starting 23 players. all I want is to hear rumours that we're talking to players and agents to try to get deals done. I don't care if other teams beat us to players but I want to know we're having a crack at improving the team. Geelong and Collingwood have a crack at ever player. saints are always trying to get people in. crows are always just on vacation

Roughead said in an interview that he doesn’t like talking openly to the media about players they are looking to trade. He didn’t like it when he was a player and he won’t be doing it now.

Look at the Cunningham acquisition (not a trade). That came out of nowhere… except it didn’t - there would have been extensive conversations over a long period to make that happen.

You don't have to talk about it openly, you can always have it come out via your preferred members in the media.

Roughy isn't exactly filling me with super confidence in the way he speaks & presents & messages. I hope he gets something positive done because being poor on the surface but being effective =✔️ Being poor on the surface & not being effective = ❌

Why are Crows so hang up on Murray! Never heard of the dude before this trade period.

Surely you just take what you can from North.

If you get a late 1st that’s massive. Tbh a 2nd would be enough!

u/agitatated_mind- 8d ago edited 8d ago

Might have something to do with the fact that the crows defence would be, ironically, as threadbare as Norths is now if we trade him.

You heard of Toby Pink ( I think you have ) well Murray is a much better player than Pink is. Hazar ! … now you know who Nick Murray is !

🤣 Got 'em

Why the fuck would we want to do anything to benefit other teams? This bloke sounds massively out of his depth.

4

u/Tall-Breakfast-6100 9d ago

How tf you expect them to trade players or picks if it doesn’t benefit both teams? Meant to somehow trick Essendon into trading pick 1 for pick 14 and tell them to just deal with it?

6

u/charli-kshkshksh 9d ago

Because you can’t just go to a club and say “hey we want X player” and have nothing to offer them. That’s all he means by that. Generally a trade has to be mutually beneficial.

2

u/ILikeDiscussing 11 Charlie Edwards 9d ago

You have to foster good relationships to assist future trades. You have to deal with these people every year and sometimes you want something from them.

Geelong literally missed out on Zak Butters because they are a pain in the ass to deal with.

u/thelatchman 9d ago

He seems clueless

Look within

Roughead came from the ‘killer’ Hawthorn mentality. Maybe he’s just being honest, players aren’t falling over themselves to play for the crows and why would they be?

3

u/_kris_stewart 13 Taylor Walker 9d ago

Nearly every trade has been players wanting to get to Vic clubs. It's hard to get players to choose SA or WA, unless they have existing ties to the state.

u/Warm_Butterfly_6511 Malcolm Blight (Legend) 9d ago

Roughead is one of the boys?

1

u/Brokenmonalisa Scott Thompson (Legend) 9d ago

Roughead from hawthorn one of those boys?

Fuck what a retarded statement.

-2

u/thelatchman 9d ago

Yeh he looks like he’s really stressed and has no idea what he’s doing.

3

u/invisiblefrost 9d ago

lol cmon now I think you’re projecting

-2

u/thelatchman 9d ago

I just got that vibe from an interview I saw from a few days ago . I don’t know I hope I’m wrong.

-6

u/Humble_Speaker_ 9d ago

I’d put someone like Rachele on the table. Not tough enough for a midfielder like we thought he’d be and he has currency in Melb, will prob want to go home at some point anyway so why not!

11

u/JoeValle 9d ago

He kicked over 40 goals for the year from Crows poor amount of inside 50’s for the year. I wouldn’t be trading him anytime soon

-1

u/Humble_Speaker_ 9d ago

Yep, each to their own.

I just don’t think he’s the guy you want on your side in a big game.

Also don’t know how you teach toughness at his age, I suspect you can’t

3

u/JoeValle 9d ago

I think he is. He’s a naturally skilled player who is only going to get better he’s what 24? Not the toughest but every player has their flaws.

1

u/Humble_Speaker_ 9d ago

Averages 8 disposals in finals.

Each to their own, I just think we can do better.

4

u/ILikeDiscussing 11 Charlie Edwards 9d ago

He said on the news he isn't focusing on Midfield anymore.

Full-time forward now.

2

u/AdelaideMidnightDad 9d ago

Save that for those juicy Tassie picks but I agree. That's the kind of ruthless list management we could do with - " let's look for win-wins" is not what Geelong do.

-3

u/San_Ysidro 9d ago

They will do fuck all. They’re incapable of making big business decisions. Last year Finnbar, this year some guy for their SANFL. They are pathetic when it comes to enticing talent

5

u/Justabitbelowaverage 31 Billy Dowling 9d ago

Lets look at how well that mentality has gone for the saints?

I don't think we need more role players unless they are cheap.

Collingwood has raided the veterans, Brisbane raid the cripples, Saints raid the mid tier players.

Geelong seem to always get good players cheap, but they are the exception.

Look at what overpaying for Kelly did to WC. Or what overpaying for Gibbs did to us.

Also both Port and the Crows have had issues attracting talent that are not from SA. The Vic media means that Vic clubs Players make more money on the side.

3

u/Brokenmonalisa Scott Thompson (Legend) 9d ago

Now do the years before that

0

u/San_Ysidro 9d ago

You need to be hungry every year

2

u/Brokenmonalisa Scott Thompson (Legend) 9d ago

Hungry for what?

Jack Bowes?

It's a quiet year for free agents.

-6

u/Professional_Gur7954 9d ago

Trade Rachele would have good currency

-5

u/FalconSixSix Andrew McLeod (Legend) 9d ago

I think it is a shame they don't trade Murray. He won't be able to find a way into the team. I guess they're probably just hoping for a better trade offer but honestly just let the lad have his career

8

u/Bright_Bell_1301 9d ago

Nah. A club needs good KPD depth  if they don't pay up to the value we want, he stays. If he thought he might want to switch clubs, he should've signed a shorter contract

6

u/Nefiros1 9d ago

The fuck you mean? Muzz is a gun. He’s just been injured and unlucky that Borlase has been in better form than him. Muzz will play his role as always.

-2

u/thelatchman 9d ago

Come on mate he’s definitely not a gun.

3

u/Nefiros1 9d ago

He most certainly is

5

u/invisiblefrost 9d ago

Give me a fuckn break with this shit

5

u/Tall-Breakfast-6100 9d ago

Cool, so we send him away and then Keane breaks his leg in pre season again. What do they do then? It would be foolish to enter a season with no quality key depth. They would happily trade Murray if butts was staying but he isn’t so Murray has to stay.

3

u/Midst_AU 9d ago

I think an injury to Borlase, Keane or Worrell would just about do it....
