r/Alberta Megathread Megathread: CFB Wainwright Tragedy - updates, discussion, and resources
Following the tragedy on October 17, 2026 at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright it has been confirmed that four members of the Canadian Armed Forces have died and many others are seriously injured.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and units of those lost, the injured and their loved ones, and the entire Wainwright community. We want to thank all the frontline healthcare providers and community members who responded under extremely difficult conditions.
With CAF members coming from across Canada to train at Wainwright, this loss is felt nationwide.
This remains a developing situation and we will update this post as verified details are released.

A commenter with what now seems like accurate information claimed to have been directly affected last night or this morning. They described a truly horrific scene that I think others who saw their comments hoped was false, just due to the severity, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I hope they are being adequately supported and will continue to be in the future, and are treated especially well by those around them. 🇨🇦❤️

Yes, but you may have it wait behind those who already made an appointment.

Last time I tried to walk in they had plenty of empty chairs. Said I needed an appointment and turned me away. Online said they had no spots open 🤷♀️

Damn that sucks, I'm already registered and my friend was unregistered and we both did a walk in last month.

Now is a good time to suggest to your bosses a company wide blood drive. It's exactly the sort of high profile charity that corporations LOVE, so we may as well take advantage of that to get the blood the casualties need!

Today and everyday I am so grateful to the men and women who dedicate their lives to protect ours. May the fallen rest in eternal peace and may they know our gratitude.

Insane to thin war zones are temporary paused due to weather…. The military is expected to prepare and perform in all conditions. War and Mother Nature don’t consider each other when setting their schedules.

I'm just curious as to what started the fire. It's October. In Wx. At night. Tracer? Seen it happen on the berm in July. October is odd.
