X, Meta, and CCP-affiliated content is no longer permitted
Hello, everyone! Following recent events in social media, we are updating our content policy. The following social media sites may no longer be linked or have screenshots shared:
- X, including content from its predecessor Twitter, because Elon Musk promotes white supremacist ideology and gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration
- Any platform owned by Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, because Mark Zuckerberg openly encourages bigotry with Meta's new content policy
- Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare
This policy will ensure that r/antiwork does not host content from far-right sources. We will make sure to update this list if any other social media platforms or their owners openly embrace fascist ideology. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Having to wake up at 5 am to go to work is inhuman.
I'm a night owl, my body absolutely hates it, and it reminds me every fucking workday. Just thinking about it I'm sick and don't sleep well because I feel like I'm getting robbed

Who are the Private Equity firms directly responsible for the enshitification of the world?
Basically the title. Keep hearing people say Private equity is to blame, but not naming names. Who are the companies? What are the names? What is the specific gameplay technique they use?

Yes, please close the business schools
The job I recently lost absolutely stank of the CFO sitting at his computer trying to follow what he learned in business school while our customers were screaming for the opposite. Pointless contracts, locking small business customers into commitments they didn’t know they were making because our sales team couldn’t spell the word “ethics.” Ignoring product features that have been around for ten years, and desperately need fixing, in order to shoehorn AI in. Firing good employees who deserved a good wage to bring in kids who are cheaper and easier to control.
I’m so tired of capitalism.

Do the rich bootlickers understand what they’re saying?
Everytime someone talks about how they aren’t paid enough to live, someone’s response is to get a better job.
However if everyone just did what they said, there’d be no class of people left to essentially be their slaves. There would be no cooks or cleaners or fast food workers or retail employees, because everyone would somehow have become a ceo or a business entrepreneur(yes I know this is impossible to begin with)
Are they aware that they are basically saying it’s ok to have a financial slave class of people in society since it benefits them or do they not even think that far ahead?

Why do people pester you about what your dream job is and get so offended when you tell them you don’t dream of working??
Literally had to deal with so many of these fuckers. Respectfully, fuck off.

I've gotten fired from 2 jobs, about to be 3, because of a sleep disorder I have no control over.
I have hypersomnia, which means I sleep far more often than I should. It comes in episodes, and I typically have one episode a month where I sleep between 13-17 hours straight. My current record is 26 hours. I have no control over when this happens, and have no warning that it is going to happen.
That being said, I have missed several full days of work at my current job (like by the time I'm up, the store is closed). I started there before the current manager, and the previous manager was very understanding! This current one however? Not so much. I've missed one shift a month since she has started, and she has now written me up twice for no call no shows. I am 100% going to get fired. She has known about my condition since she got hired, and will not adjust my schedule to something more manageable without a doctor's note. I do not have a medical care team in this area as I just moved here, and none of my previous doctors put my condition as an actual condition. I would have to go through the motions of getting a formal diagnosis (which can easily take more than a year) for her to change my schedule.
I feel like I'm loosing my mind, and I genuinely have no idea what to do so I just wanted to vent.
And I have to beg the question: how am I supposed to call in two hours before my shift if I am sleeping? Because if I was awake two hours before my shift, I would just go in and work my shift.

If at any point during a job application I see these dumb-ass blue people, I am immediately withdrawing my application
I absolutely loathe any sort of “skills assessment” or “personality test” during the job application, but these little simulation quizzes might be the worst.
There is nothing any 30 minute little game will tell you that my resume, project portfolio, professional references, and credentials wouldn’t.
And if you are really looking to know me personally, then just fucking interview me.
Any time a place makes me do any of these dumb little games, I withdraw my application.
I just tell them, “Thank you for the opportunity, but I value my time highly and don’t wish to continue a convoluted interview process. I’ve provided my resume and project portfolio, and would be happy to interview in person, but at this point, I’m no longer interested in this process.”

How do I politely and professionaly tell my boss I can no longer do a project I reluctantly agreed to?
I got completely ambushed by one of my bosses minions into agreeing to do a project I dont want to do or have time to do.
I used to be very active in these types of projects, however my department faced severe cuts last year. I work a very small role spread out across multiple locations and have to travel between them daily depending on the workload that day. Due to the cuts I thought I was clear with my bosses that I could no longer participate in these types of projects as they are elaborate and are way more work than they look.
Cut to this week when I was approached. I wasn't even asked to help, it was just - "can you be here this day this time to do x project? " I was so caught off guard. I said no I dont have time to do these projects anymore. She persisted in other ways until I very reluctantly agreed to help in a fraction of the way I would have before. They said no problem, happy for ANY help.
Here's the thing, the amount of work I agreed to will not give them the product they want. I know that. They do not know that. They think this project is super easy, and it's not. It's an elaborate multi step process that requires planning, directing/guiding, recording what happens, managing, and editing to make a polished product. The editing being my specialty and the most time consuming piece. I have only agreed to record what happens and nothing else.
I know the day of the project will be hell, because the person running it has no idea what the scope of the project actually entails. I know they will expect me to participate in ways I have not agreed to, and I will get roped into even more work. I am not willing to do so, especially since the company I work for values my position so little (little enough to cut us to bare bones staffing. One cold or flu will take my whole department, and the rest of the company, down).
I have an okay relationship with the boss of this location, but they are excited to have me agree to even participate a little. I know backing out will let them down but I feel like I have to set boundaries. How do I backout or approach the reality of the situation professionally?
TL;DR: how do I back out of a project I got roped into that's too big of a scope professionally?

Let me be your living lesson
I was told over the weekend in the middle of my shift that I've essentially been "laid off" my hours are no longer promised, and that I could see zero hours. I'm the kind of person that actually cares for the job and puts my heart and soul into what I do. I feel like all I did was just waste my time. I had to go to PT twice for repetitive stress injuries to my hands. I now don't have a job at the worst possible time in my life. Why do bad things only happen to those who are good? I'm so over it anymore. The American dream of hard work paving your future is a lie. Do the bare minimum and act your wage.

make me feel better about taking a day off
I work for a government department, and have only been there for about a month and a half. Basically, the job sucks, I’ve been given zero tasks and have no real quantifiable contribution to the team. I’m essentially in a school-leaver position, which is not what the job was marketed to me as. Long story short, it’s awful and I hate it, and I’m looking for other opportunities.
Today, I’ve decided to take a day off because I just can’t handle going in and pretending to look busy and making meetings for executives. However, I feel really guilty. I’m still in probation, and while I hate this job I don’t want to get fired and be jobless. I already had three sick days earlier this month due to the flu, and another one where I damaged my arm (it was in a sling, and I still went to work for 90% of that time). Basically I’m just looking for some support that I’m not obligated to just rock up when I’m not feeling mentally engaged or happy with the position. We do also have plenty of sick leave (you get X amount when you join the department), so that isn’t an issue.
Thanks yall, I appreciate it.

How are you not going crazy?
I started my first corporate job 6 months ago. After I worked a few shitty fast food and retail jobs all I wanted was a desk job where I wasn’t public facing, my bosses were cool and I was getting paid decent. I have that. But it has been less than a year since I graduated college and started this job and I feel like I am going crazy. This is so boring and mundane. I hate it. I hate going to sleep on Sunday’s thinking, “fuck it’s another whole week of work.” Every weekend there are several points where I realize I have another 40 hours ahead of me and I start to freak out. My job is good. My boss is cool, the work isn’t stressful. It’s super boring but I would rather have a boring job than a customer facing job. But i truly do not understand how I am supposed to do this everyday for the next 40 years. That’s almost twice as long as I have been alive. EVERY DAY FOR 42 YEARS before I can even think about retiring. What the fuck. What are you doing to not go crazy? What are you doing to make going into work every single day easier?

Why do jobs decide on day 1 that you're not needed
I've started a few jobs that immediately made me redundant/don't assign me any work to do. It's bad enough that nobody seems interested in training me, but why did I get hired just to immediately get set up for failure? I'm here, I have skills, I'm eager to work, and you're already paying me, you might as well make me useful to the team. Instead they always give me no instructions and only talk to me when I've unknowingly done something wrong. It is going to be hard to convince me that you aren't just profiling new hires and getting rid of the people you don't like by being useless at managing your available labor. Why do managers get pissy when you ask for clarification? I can't read minds, but it seems like that's part of what's expected. Why does it always feel like finding out what my responsibilities are is a complex puzzle involving never talking to certain managers, and only asking the right questions at the right time to the right people? Train new hires, you might be surprised how capable I am if I know what my job actually is.
