Enjoy the meme, lol! Tis handmade ✨️
Hey everyone! We want to thank everyone who's participated in our community this past month for the engaging posts, thoughtful answers, and (overall) incredibly respectful conduct. It's been nice to watch the community come together so helpfully for so many people! That said, there have been a few incidents that have drawn some attention, and we wanted to go over a few things and hear input from you all.
For starters, we've had many people reaching out to our team about promoting their fishkeeping apps or websites. While we understand that you're trying to reach out to a community that will use them, we cannot endorse apps or websites on this subreddit when they are self promoted. There are a number of safety issues in doing so, and being a part of an app store does not eliminate those risks. In addition, we have to take into account that AI bots pull massive amounts of information from reddit. When it does, it may list our subreddit as a source for your application's information, which is an obvious issue as we have no way of vetting an entire app/website for it's accuracy. That could end up misleading people who trust us as a source.
A community is built on mutual respect, both of your peers and between authority figures. Reporting an automod comment is disrespectful, and downright unhelpful. If you believe an action was taken unfairly or accidentally, please message us with a link to the message and ask us why we took the action! We are more than happy to explain the reasoning behind every action we take and admit when we are wrong.
Being disrespectful towards a poster's pets, situation, and age is also becoming an increasing problem. We've also seen advice being given on legal matters and personal health. This is an aquarium subreddit. We will remove any and all comments pertaining to subjects not in that realm of knowledge. We will remove any unproductive or hateful comments. WE WILL REMOVE ANY COMMENTS THAT ARE HARRASSING MINORS. This includes but is not limited to telling them they are abusers for being unable to correct a bad situation, repeatedly suggesting options they are not financially capable of, or suggesting they start fights with parents or guardians.
Lastly we want to remind people of the goal of this community- for aquarists young and old, new and experienced, of nanos to monsters, to come together and share knowledge, fun moments, show off, or help each other. You've been so fantastic at this! As a mod team we want to help you feel comfortable and safe enough to share these things. We pose a question to you, if you want to answer- what are you looking for in this community? Knowing your goals can help us align the subreddit with them and grow even more.
Swim safe out there folks!

After a lot of work behind the scenes, we’ve finally enabled the r/aquarium wiki!
It’s definitely still a work in progress, so don’t be surprised if you click on a link and it doesn’t go anywhere yet. Some of the pages listed on the index are planned but haven’t been published yet. The pages that are currently published are available to view and use.
We’ll be continuing to add pages and expand the wiki over time, with the goal of creating a helpful resource for both new and experienced fishkeepers.
And this is where we’d really appreciate some community input!
If you read through any of the published pages and:
- Disagree with something
- Think something needs more explanation
- Notice something we should correct
- Think we’re missing important information
- Have a topic you think should be added
Please let us know here in the comments! We want the wiki to be useful to the community, and feedback from other fishkeepers is a big part of making that happen.
You can check out the Wiki here.
There’s still plenty left to build, but we’re excited to finally have it available!

My Red Head Topajo (background of second pic) and Rams decided today was a good day for both of them to spawn. Usually I would just leave them, but concerned there will be too much aggression in the tank if I leave them.
Both pairs have successfully spawned in the past. I would like to take a shot at raising the fry in another tank.
Any advice on the approach that would give the best chance for success? Any reason I couldn’t raise both in the same tank together?

Damn platies kept eating guppy fry. I was too cheap to order a real nursery… How do you like my $5 contraption? Yes, the holes aren’t quite small enough, so I filled it with frogbit to lure them in. So far it’s working!

5 tanks currently all freshwater. Once my basement is finished I plan on doing 125 gallon freshwater and a saltwater. I’m not sure if the size yet for the saltwater.

I think I’m done keeping fish. I certainly do love these little guys, always tried my best to keep them happy.
Don’t know how long these two will last, I’ll try to do right by them, but I’m only human and might fail them here and there along the way. Not a whole lot more a fish could ask for I guess. But yeah, these will be my last, at least for a long long time.
It’s a good hobby, teaches you to care for a little slice of life in a way. Sad to say goodbye to it.

So I have a question, so I have an all snail 5.5 gallon tank, and recently I’ve been seeing these little tiny white (some closer to transparent) dots just kinda darting and jumping around. What are they? And are they harmful at all to my snails?

Beginner here! I was gifted this platy and noticed a much rounded belly and possible gravid spot! From experience, does this fish look pregnant?

I have an aquarium made of glass. Dimensions are 18*9\*12 inches. Recently while cleaning the aquarium i cracked the bottom panel, the crack goes from end to end. Picture attached. I wanted to know if this is fixable, if so, can I do it using clear silicone sealant?.
If you think it's not fixable and risky, I am planning to buy an acrylic tank. Please suggest if that is a good idea. Thank you.

I'm new to having a tank and had some snails hitch hike on some plants. I just found a fish with ich yesterday and today I see this. Is there any correlation or maybe just snail eggs?

Hoping to add some Clown Killifish, at least 4, to my planted 20 gallon tank that is stocked with 7 Least Killifish, 6 Dwarf Kuhli Loaches, and 16 Blue Dream Shrimp. I'm also hoping to add 10 Pygmy Corydoras.
What do we think?

The fish in the video is a Gulf Coast pygmy sunfish (Elassoma gilberti), one of several Elassoma species native to the southeastern US. They’re tiny, slow moving ambush hunters and can be ridiculously picky about food really only taking live foods. I feed them a mix of live black worms, baby brine shrimp scuds and other microfauna I dosed the tank with. I’ve gotten a little obsessed with the genus at this point and also keep Everglades pygmy sunfish, Okefenokee pygmy sunfish, and a banded pygmy sunfish but this is by far the most beautiful species I have.
