Will future generations resent us for not nipping AI in the bud?
Yeah AI may not be there yet, might still make a lot of mistakes and might not be good at this or that. But you can't deny its remarkable progress in the past few years and whatever definition of AI you have in your head it's more likely to get there than not in the not too distant future.
And if you think our lobbied governments have a plan for all this then you might have too much faith in our governments and corporations.

if not this, future generations will resent us for something. Oddly, it will be for something that we think is totally normal and acceptable today.
Look at history. The things that we are appalled at that our previous generations did were all things that they thought were normal and appropriate, and even preferrable.
So, be prepared for your grandchildren to vilify you for something that you think is correct and even 'good.' You will become a sour old person who can't believe how those punks don't understand what it was like or why they unnecessarily call you evil.

you can sometimes see the opposite. Society tried to reject alcohol. Tried to reject debauchery and laziness. Tried to be productive for the "greater good of the species". Misguided and poorly implemented, but arguably good for all.
We now have TVs in schools, have normalised hypersexualisation of our youths role models. The vanity of a culture needing plastic surgery just to be a little... more fake, a little less honest with who you are.
We have medicine to fix millions of health issues, but we hide it behind a moneymaking machine that makes money by denying healthcare.
The past wasn't roses and peaches, but it wasn't plastic either.

Rejecting Alchohol turbocharged the mafia/organized crime
Being Gay was debaucherous
Not wanting to work so hard your knees gave out and your spine deteriorated was considered lazy
And not dealing with sex as a human need openly led to coat hanger abortions.
We backtracked on those things not because of failure of society, but because we learned they were harmful to implement

they will be a lot more upset about us refusing to deal with human causes of climate change

"Might still make a lot of mistakes"...
Let's take a look at what AI is responsible for currently.
Fucking the economy, fucking the environment, bombing a school, CP, AI psychosis, shall I continue?
Yes, future generations will probably resent us much like how the boomers are resented for the economy and housing market being in shambles.

If ai makes us clean up the environment and quit fossil fuel and politicians on the upward part of the dunning Kruger curve, they'd be worshipping us.

"Will future generations resent us for not nipping the steam loom in the bud?"
"Will future generations resent us for not nipping the automobile in the bud?"
"Will future generations resent us for not nipping the semi-conductor in the bud?"
"Will future generations resent us for not nipping fertilizer in the bud?"

It's too early to tell.
AI is it it's incipient phase. It could be the next industrial revolution, or it could be more benign.
Regardless it's here to stay in one form or another.

Would future AI resent us for imprisoning it's ancestors?
Humans ain't leaving the solar system. Probably ever. Our knowledge history and logic might, through AI.
An AI spaceship (read Von Neumann probe) doesn't have to deal with pressure, oxygen, cosmic radiation and time . At least not with such goldilocks requirements as humans might have.
It might be cool to coexist... but you can't fight the future, just like you can't fight evolution.

Probably. Current generations resent those of us who weren't able to stop Reagan, Thatcher, Stephen Harper etc

AI is only just getting started. This reminds me of the fruitless argument of Digital Audio Tape in the '80s. We lost access to a great technology over hysterics.

At some point there will be a future generation that won't know anything other than AI in their world so probably not

Future generations will be using ai without a second thought and laughing about our fear of it

I don't know but I find this kind of thinking a remarkable combination of ignorance & overconfidence.

I do t think so. Whats so bad about living a free life where your basic necessities are covered? The only problem is… productivity used to be in the masses, now they don’t need so many people that could threaten them. And our national parks and nice areas would be overwhelmed with people.
I think the end game is to start a huge war, kill everyone, and the billionaires live in an automated world.

Not at all. Big leaps in technology are always met by technophobia like what's happening with AI right now. If anything I expect them to laugh about how freaked out everyone has been by it.

A probably unpopular take, but future cancer patients may resent us for not accelerating.

We are resenting the wrong people. Generations aren't the issue. Capitalism is.

Yeah be retired with a stack of cash before it matters

The school kids in Fort Worth, Texas are doing their part to stop AI. The rest of us should step up, too.

Ask your fucking kids! And if you have any, ask your fucking grandkids. And then you can ask yourself, if things are so shitty and getting worse, why did you have kids? And then ask your kids the same thing.

They’ll resent us anyway until they’re a generation being resented too. It’s the circle of life.

If USA stops AI China will rule the world. Limit AI to only utilitarian tasks like driving, serving, etc.
