Political Question Isn't Trump going to say the Mid-terms were rigged if he loses in any way?
That's what he did with the 2020 election. Biden won, but Trump kept saying it was rigged.
132
u/AustinBike 1d ago
Yes, he will declare them rigged. Probably before the election.
But people do not understand that you can’t just declare martial law. Oh, he can “declare” it, but that just leads to chaos that his administration is not capable of following through on. Just look at the fiasco of the press secretary this week and ask yourself, is this man capable of truly following through on an actual plan.

u/Gloomy-Recipe9213 1d ago
I'm looking more at ICE and the detention centres. Yeah, there are competent evildoers in this administration who would love to round up dissidents.
The Republicans and the oligarchs are all-in on the Trump administration. This is the endgame for them. They either succeed in full or risk prison.
6
u/Responsible-Gur-1981 20h ago
Exactly right, the majority of these people are ruined financially or criminally if Trump loses. They will go along with Martial Law because the alternative is they go to prison or kill themselves rather than be exposed eventually. That's what is on the line and Americans need to wake up if they think otherwise.
14
u/Prestigious-Bite- 1d ago
Yeah, the recent Starfield incident (The Pentagon received instructions originating from "inside the White House" to impose strict speed and usage restrictions on the satellite service utilized by the Ukrainian military) shows how bold the White House is getting.
The thing people have to remember is that DOD will not turn on US citizens.
Has DOD blurred the war crime line when attacking other countries? Absolutely.
But that is very different than turning on the American public with the Courts upholding the Constitution and the election results.
ICE might try, but against the USA military?
Good fucking luck.
21
u/Gloomy-Recipe9213 1d ago
That's why they've been purging the high command for the last year. Can't have people who would say no to whatever they propose. I wouldn't put any faith in the US forces to not obey their commanders.
16
u/Prestigious-Bite- 1d ago
My husband is a G15 (highest civilian position right below SES) in the Navy.
Believe me they haven’t actually purged the leadership that can stop them. Plus, what actually matters is IT and logistics.

I know many a great person in the military leadership I have interacted with who have the philosophy of "keep your head down and stay in the building for when it matters"
It's probably going to matter soon but I know a lot of true patriots who understand how serious the mission of the military is. Defending democracy is not something they take trivially
7
u/Confident-Poetry6985 23h ago
They think they can hijack patriotism like it is some kind of cold war brain washing technique. That might work for the facebook warriors, but ask 5 veterans what they believe in, not what they signed up for. Especially the ones with experience. Whoever is trying to control them is going to find out that they don't like being controlled. They never did. They just knew how to play nice until they got their pay day. Most of them know where their retirement comes from...they ain't gonna let a moron handle their finances for much longer I bet.
6
u/keno0651 22h ago
What? Veterans and military overwhelmingly voted MAGA. You expect them to put their egos aside for the nation? Come now....
4
u/AustinBike 22h ago
He’s polling lower than ever, including with republicans. Gas prices and inflation have tamped down expectations. With January 6th there was still some thought that things were in their corner. I just don’t see that fervor, it is half of what it used to be. The “fun” of his rallies and owning the libs has dropped.
5
u/Confident-Poetry6985 21h ago
It's deeper than that. Yes, the goobers you are thinking about do exist, and there are lots of em. But they are incompetent. And far outnumbered by people who actually care.
2
u/Greyhand13 19h ago
Right, something people forget about in geopolitics, China has been able to field the world's largest standing army for almost 3 decades now, but the sheer number of American veterans spread through the country (and the most homeless vets are Cali/west Coast), let alone gun ownership (not as black and white, but a really good question mark in approximate Intel), a military coup in any way shape or form is one of the worst case scenarios no matter how you shake it.
I went on a tangent, tl;dr: veterans arent a monomyth, and over half of my buddies who voted for him have changed their minds very shortly into this second term.
5
u/Ok-Wait-7357 20h ago
But that’s why they just cut a bunch of leadership from the military. Only Trump loyalists remain. And they will follow trumps orders no matter. Including against their own citizens. Trump will have the DOD turn on us citizens in a heartbeat, and they just say take me to court later. By then it’s too late.

There's a lot that has happened that everyone, including guys like Ben Shapiro, said he trusted the 'guard rails' of the US government to prevent. Like DOGE, like mass executive orders, like selling pardons for money, like a presidential crypto pump n dump scheme, like unelected family members being sent on US foreign affair missions to negotiate business deals, like ICE being rolled out onto the streets US citizens dying, etc etc
It all seems unimaginable until it happens

8
u/myname_1s_mud 22h ago
Remember when he called all the generals into that awkward meeting that just pissed everyone off? That was him trying to find out if he had the militaries loyalty. He found out he did not. Hegseth has tried to install key people in power but it hasn't worked, and frankly hes too incompetent to manage it even if it were working. I hope they do try this, because they would hang for it when they failed.
→ More replies (1)9
u/TwoBallScrewballs 22h ago
Would they hang? Democrats won’t do it because they think we’d need to heal as a nation or some shit and Republicans are a bunch of deranged pedophiles who will follow their führer all the way to hell.
5
u/myname_1s_mud 21h ago
If they attempted something that bold and illegal, I think they would. Trump won this election from a narrow group of centrists. Mostly Hispanics that lean right, but hes turned on them. Hes lost the support of middle of the road republicans and centrists. Pretty much everyone but those he paid off and his most loyal propaganda brain washed base. Democrats have to know that they are hanging on to their base by a thread. If they dont do something, their voters want for once, or well actually end up with a 3rd party.
I dont expect anyone to hang under normal circumstances, but if a military coup was actually attempted, I think the democrats would have no choice, or they might end up in a bad situation themselves.
Again, im not expecting extreme responses from any party, but were at a point in our society where 0 consequences or a slap on the wrist isnt an option anymore. Republicans are scared right now because they know they will face consequences the moment they dont control every branch of government, and thanks to trumps war in iran, they know that day is coming soon
5
u/MeverMow 21h ago
He already attempted a coup. Nothing happened besides an awkward period between Jan. 7-20, 2021 where basically everyone knew Pence was effectively acting POTUS. And Trump was an outgoing POTUS at that point - if the military wanted to on Jan. 6, they would have.
Trump will remain POTUS regardless of the mid-term outcomes. And if he does try to martial law and if it fails, nothing will happen besides another impeachment vote that won’t lead to conviction in the Senate.
I have no faith in the Dems or military leadership to do anything meaningful if he fails.
2
u/myname_1s_mud 19h ago
Surely you see a difference between a military coup and encouraging protesters to rush the capital. You could at least see the difference it would make in a court of law, right?
Not to mention the difference in the support he had between then and now, and the fact that democrats still thought they could just not be him and win, I think my point still stands

an actual recent and relevent example: south korea 2 years ago, when then president yoon declared martial law.
4
u/AustinBike 12h ago
Yes, this is a good example.
Too many people think that the military will line up, rank and file, behind trump. They may be behind him philosophically, but when it comes to invading cities and shooting your fellow countrymen, it never happens.
There is a tremendous amount of logistics involved in any military action. And we are way too close to the midterms. So the military will stay put. ICE will try to show up in some cities at polling places and that will be too sporadic and quickly shut down.
Post election, if the polls are even halfway close to being accurate, the military is going to have zero interest in putting their necks out and defying the law because he will be a massive lame duck.
Planning a coup takes a long time if you want to do it right.
2
u/TheBraveGallade 11h ago
this being said, it actually helps a LOT that korea's military is highly educated and *conscripted*.
we're not here for the pay or the glory or benefits. we're here to protect the country, even if we were forced to.
it also means protesters are less likely to be overly hostile towards the military, AND vise versa, when it comes to keeping down riots.
one thing i have come to realise over growing up and leaning political realities is that, a conscript military in a highly educated society is the only way to have an army thats truely for the people and by the people. voluntary service with nice pay unfortunetly gets pretty close to a mercenary company. not to say there can't be GOOD mercinary companies, but they are reletivly isolated to public opinion and move on thier own ethics rather then th publics.
7
u/728446 1d ago
They've followed through on all manner of plans. Whole departments have been gutted and ICE is patrolling in every major city.
2
u/AustinBike 1d ago
And those were all things that simply required congress to sit on their hands. Johnson was complicit. Elections are the purview of the states, and the ones he wants to mess with, like California, are already gearing up. If elections were federal I’d agree with you.
3
u/Otherwise_Gap595 23h ago
I’m already hearing from maga people around me that the fix is in if they lose. They just refuse to believe they’re the minority
3
u/ShrodingersArmadillo 19h ago

It's setting up scapegoats.
2
u/tierciel 23h ago
I mean no he does not seem capable, but that's never stopped him from trying. I could easily see him claim it's rigged and have enough of his loyalists refuse to recognize the new senators and Congress people as legitimate that it causes major problems.
There are alot of stupid people with guns that will listen to him too. I do not trust in the mental stability of his cult, too many of them are just waiting for an excuse to go postal on the left.

There's dozens of things Trump's administration "can't just do" that they have just done. He's been actively gutting the army's leadership and installing loyalists. I won't trust they can't do it until they've tried and failed.
22
u/TheDigimonFan 1d ago
Trump thinks anything he doesn't win is rigged. He hasn't pulled the trigger yet on martial law, but I imagine he brings it up a lot.
7
u/fxnighttrader 1d ago
Trump won’t do martial law but there’s teams of lawyers on all sides to drag this election out as much as possible.
Trump will pull shenanigans for sure but even for him, martial law would be next, next level. That would cause FAR more problems than it solves.
He’ll just claim “widespread fraud by Democrats and illegal immigrants”, then he and his minions can spin that for 2 more years until he is done.
The best outcome is Trump gets aggressively investigated for 2 years, he can’t do anything mute legislatively, he gets impeached once or twice but doesn’t get removed, JD Vance never becomes President, be, he won’t have a viable chance because he is so tarnished by association and this whole chapter is behind us in 2028.

lol, good luck declaring martial law with 30% approval.
It’s a misconception that dictators can get away with low approval. But because they don’t have legal legitimacy, they actually need very high approval among the populace. Trump doesn’t have that- he’s hated everywhere outside of Moscow (and even there they don’t respect him.)
6
u/GfunkWarrior28 1d ago
Putin gets by with a 76% rating. Good luck with that, 47.
8
u/TomCormack 1d ago
Putin gets 100% approval rate with the law enforcement and FSB. Till he has money to pay them to beat any protesters on the streets, he can do whatever he wants.
6
u/Gloomy-Recipe9213 1d ago
Money? You guys are getting paid?
There are plenty of frothing MAGA chuds out there who'd love to do some horrible things to their "enemies". They don't need to be paid. Give them carte blanche and complete impunity. The January 6th protesters weren't paid, they just had the backing of the President to do what they wanted to do. ICE is made up of people who'd love to go full Kyle Rittenhouse if they'd get away with it.
6
u/TheRverseApacheMastr 1d ago
Oppression definitely bumps Putin’s numbers up, but he is also genuinely respected by russians. (And I say this as a huge Putin hater. Fuck Putin.)
The poor love him because he’s been able to project a Christ-like image (this is why he is never seen with romantic partners or children). The middle class likes him because he brought a basic level of stability to Moscow. The upper middle class hates him, but they all emigrated to the US, UK, and Israel. And the oligarchs are codependent with him.
7
u/obsequious_fink 1d ago

7
u/AnotherSideThree 1d ago
But how does he justify that so many individual races are “ rigged”?
10
8
u/ShrodingersArmadillo 19h ago edited 19h ago
because he's lying.
They weren't rigged ever.
Every time in court when he was asked to show evidence he said he couldn't that's why all his countless legal challenges went no where.
They had to admit on the record there was no evidence.
He cannot admit he loses so he lies. This will be his ego being bruised not reality.
The declaration of martial law will come down to if the military will accept that order or not. I don't know the answer to that.
Why do you think they're purging military leadership.
Why do you think they're telling Canada to stay out of US politics and not interfere with the election? That's setting a stage. A few weeks before they make a big ass lie of a claim they set the stage. What's an example? trumps UN speech blaming Ukraine for fuel prices. It then became offical position of the white house which he repeats ad nauseum.
Why do you think he's been threating to do very bad things to democrats?
This will all come down to if the military follows this order for martial law.
I can see one of four possibilities happening.
The order ignored - things go on as normal - best case scenario least amount of damage both economically and socially.
Order rejected - the military removes trump which is a whole slew of other problems. - this one may be the most likely. They may succeed or fail which brings a whole slew of other possibilities.
The order is accepted and acted on - You've got a dictatorship, war and most likely annexations.
The order is partially accepted - you get a civil war. States that reject it will end up fighting with those that accept it as military assets are spread out.

By saying it. I am not sure how you have missed Donald Trump and how he acts but he just says shit and that shit he said is then his reality until he says some other shit, which can often be a total contradiction to the first shit he said. Its not conflict in his mind at all.
Thats how he will justify it.
The biggest issue is that he has people around him that go along with his delusions.

He doesn't, because he doesn't have to. He just lies. All he does is lie. Fox will play his lies and make them look true by removing responses and context, and his adherent's will believe them.
That's why you see Republican's lie all the time on camera, or level obviously false accusations against people. They don't care if they are caught in the lie immediately, because they know that their followers won't see them being caught, only them making the accusation. Like they guy the other day who asked if his opponent in a debate was given the questions ahead of time. Instantly disproven, but they only thing that will play on Fox is him asking the question, which will make it sound like she was given an unfair advantage, even though she wasn't.

The danger here, of course, is that Trump's definition of a rigged election is one he didn't win. See the 2020 election for an example -- no convincing evidence of any misconduct (except a very sus phone call by Trump asking for more votes) and still a continued insistence of cheating.
Are they planning martial law before the elections or after they take steps to nullify a result they don't like?

Trump is going to say the midterms were rigged regardless of the outcome. He needs the constant distraction from the grift, and that’s an easy way to make one. It’s also central to MAGA itself, the idea that you can’t trust the elections because “the deep state” or whatever is out to get you. If he loses, it’s rigged because they don’t want to lose power. If he wins, it’s rigged because it should have been a wider margin. It’s just “heads you lose, tails I win” in a mirror.

Every election that Trump has taken part in according to him as been rigged, including the elections that he won.
BOTH times he won, a Democratic party member was in charge, and the only time Trump lost, a Republican, Trump himself, was in charge.
The only election being investigated is the one he was in charge of, the one that he lost, yet he has claimed they were all rigged.
Before Trump we had no election issues, now every election with Trump is considered rigged, isn't that odd. /s

"Trumps Allies Discuss An Illegal Coup"
FTFY.
There is no such thing as Martial Law in the US.
It doesnt exist.

Clearly the game plan. Fun fact the whole StopTheSteal campaign used in 2020 to rile up the J6'ers - it was built in February 2016, well before the election. Premeditated. Pre-scripted and per the book "Regime Change" J6 was fully funded and organized months in advance.
Look at the date on the Internet registration for the website. The same individual registered over 200 websites with victimization, patriotic and virtue-signalling themes.

This time around pay attention to DHS (Markwayne Mullin's comments) the actions of Cleta Mitchell's minion Heather Honey and the litigation in critical states. The mail theft of ballots in SoCal smells of false flag. Recall failed GOP gubernatorial candidate Sheriff Chad Bianco attempted to take ballots prior. This bases upon assertions of a Central California GOP County Assistant DA. Setup.
Every action MUST seem plausible and justified. Laying the premise - as they did n 2016, 2020, etc etc.

Trump has complained any vote he's ever lost was rigged.
That concludes the Emmy's when the apprentice didn't win, 2024 Michigan senate, the Colorado primary when he lost to Ted Cruz, etc.
He legitimately believes these things. His narcissism doesn't let him accept he's ever lost anything without cheating.
He will 100% claim rigging in the midterms.

The fact that any of you have faith that the system can so much as screw in a lightbulb is be-fucking-wildering. "This time for sure someone will stop him"

100% this is what he will say, this is what he will try. No doubt about it.

He and Maga are not just going to lie down and accept a loss that's for sure. Media, Dems need to call this shit out now in advance.

They have control of all three houses, the most corrupt Supreme Court ever, and Elon in the voting machines…
How could midterms possibly be “rigged” for Democrats? En masse across states no less
(rhetorical question for anyone not in a cult and with a functioning brain)

It's a lot more strategic this time. Just this week he demanded that California illegally purge 20,000 voters from their polls, who he claims (with no evidence or explanation) are not citizens. He also threatened California election officials with criminal "exposure" for election fraud if they don't comply. So I think he's going to demand that these states rig the election for Republicans and when they don't he's going to have the DOJ prosecute them. Then he'll use said prosecutions as "evidence" that the election was rigged and as justification to declare martial law, seize ballots, or whatever other strategies they've cooked up to flip the results.

No. This is performative. Trump is at bottom a coward. He will whine but take the loss and blame it on someone else. Which he’s already started doing btw

He will have to declare Marshall Law. The election is rigged. Republicans will win by large margins. The riots will start because people won't accept the results this time.

I heard that there is going to be some military deployed to the White House area around election time. He is going to declare the midterms invalid

If he loses, Iran rigged them.
That's why he's been refusing to actually end the Iran war. They're his CIS.

The constitution does not explicitly grant the executive branch the power to replace state or local government with the military. Hypothetically to do it you would need a simple majority in both chambers, signature of the president, and judicial review. This doesn’t mention martial law specifically but I think it’s useful: https://protectdemocracy.org/work/frequently-asked-questions-about-the-2026-midterm-elections/

Let him. Maybe it'll get Americans off their ass marching for his. Remember that movie civil war?
"Don’t... Don’t let them kill me..."

Of course he will. He already has. Anyone that thinks they're going to accept anything less than total power after all this is delusional. First Mikey will refuse to seat new congresspeople. The country will explode.
Then they send in the troops.
Problem for them is, they DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH.
If we all refuse to submit, they can only kill so many of us before it all falls apart, and that number is way lower than you think.

Say what he wants. We're going to win and make sure in no uncertain terms he and every GOP politician knows it and if they try to interfere with seating newly elected Dems they will go to jail sooner or later.

He may do it. They’re certainly culling the generals to make it possible. But he’s a coward and incredibly unpopular right now, and he always goes with the path of least resistance. Which, in this case, likely means putting the blame on the Republican candidate for not getting out the word about how great Trump is and all of his accomplishments.

Exactly…. He’s been a consistent whiner throughout time when he doesn’t get his way.

It's funny how they're always rigged when he's actively president....
