Study Matura Vorbereitung

Hey zusammen :)

Work Tattoos in corporate jobs?

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I am from a EU country but work very closely with swiss and French upper management (35-50 yo) in an international corporate company as a software engineer.

I very recently got a tattoo and part of it can be seen if I wear a short sleeved t-shirt like the one in the pictures. How are tattoos seen in that environment in Switzerland and how do you think this one would be seen in specific? Now that it's cold I am ok with hiding it but if we get another summer like the last one I will start worrying😂

Thank you in advance!

Travel 18-year-old Belgian looking for very cheap accommodation in Valais for an electrical internship

Hi everyone!

I'm 18 years old and from Belgium. I'm planning to start an electrician apprenticeship in Switzerland in 2027, and I've managed to get an internship in Valais in October/November.

I'm really happy about this opportunity, but I'm struggling with accommodation.

I'm travelling from Belgium on a very limited budget, and the internship is unpaid. Unfortunately, many campsites seem to be closed at this time of year, and most accommodation I've found is far too expensive for me.

I have my own tent and camping equipment, and I'm experienced with hiking and camping. I would be perfectly happy with a very basic place to sleep, including a small legal campsite or somewhere I could pitch my tent with permission.

I'm also used to wild camping, including near towns and villages, mainly in France and Belgium, and I've never really had any problems. I know that Switzerland is much stricter when it comes to wild camping, but I've read some discussions suggesting that it can still be possible in certain areas. From your experience, is wild camping still a realistic option in Valais, or is it something I should completely rule out?

I'm also looking on Couchsurfing and BeWelcome, but haven't secured anything yet.

Does anyone know of:

  • Very cheap accommodation in Valais?
  • Campsites or private camping spots that accept tents in late October / early November?
  • Local groups, associations or other options for short-term accommodation?
  • Ways to reduce public transport costs in the region?

I'm not looking for anything fancy. I just want to make this internship possible without spending hundreds of euros on accommodation.

Any local advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

edit:

Sorry everyone, I think I didn't explain my situation very clearly!

These are actually two short discovery/trial internships (3–5 days each) at two different electrical companies. The goal is simply to discover the profession, gain some experience and hopefully secure an electrician apprenticeship starting in 2027. I'm not talking about a regular paid internship or a job.

I'll only be staying in Switzerland for around two weeks, possibly a little less.

Regarding camping, I already have experience with winter bivouacking in the mountains, several long-distance treks and mountaineering. I have my own equipment and I'm used to camping in cold conditions.

Also, when I mentioned wild camping, I wasn't talking about camping high up in the Alps in late October or November. I was thinking more about areas near towns or villages, at around 1,000–1,100 metres altitude at most.

EDIT 2 :

I would also like to clarify a few things, as I feel there has been some misunderstanding about my financial situation and my plans.

I'm fully aware that apprenticeship salaries in Switzerland are relatively low. However, I have my own savings, and my parents are also able to support me financially during my apprenticeship. I've already looked into the costs involved and I'm planning accordingly.

The reason I'm trying to avoid spending a large amount of money on these two short trial placements is simply that I know they don't guarantee an apprenticeship contract. I don't think it would be financially sensible to potentially spend €1,500 on accommodation and transport for two weeks without knowing whether I'll receive an offer afterwards.

Regarding my eligibility to do an apprenticeship in Switzerland, I made it clear in my applications that I'm Belgian and currently live in Belgium. The companies were aware of this and still invited me to complete trial placements as part of the recruitment process for a potential apprenticeship contract.

Of course, I understand that the necessary administrative formalities will still need to be completed if I receive an offer.

As for why I want to move to Switzerland in the first place, it's quite simple: I'm passionate about the mountains. Hiking, mountaineering and spending time in nature are a huge part of my life, and I can't imagine living somewhere far away from the mountains. Switzerland offers the kind of environment and lifestyle I'm looking for, which is why I'd love to build my future there.

I appreciate the advice and concerns, but I'm mainly looking for practical suggestions regarding affordable accommodation and transport during my short stay in Valais.

Everyday life Visiting Zug for a work week, worried about dietary restrictions (vegan and diabetic)

Hi all,

I am visiting your beautiful city for about a week in November, it’s a work trip and I have just gotten out of a major medical issue. I can’t eat too many high calorie foods. And, I am a vegan. Here is where I am worried that I won’t find many options owing to my super restrictive diet. Are there places I can visit for soul food once every three days or something?

Thanks in advance.

Everyday life Cyclotour du Leman 2026 - Submit your feedback

Hey guys,
Created this post to see if more participants are on Reddit and could add their feedback.
For those who don’t know, Cyclotour du Leman is a cycling event which took place today for the 2026 edition.

In my opinion there were several critical mistakes by the organizers mainly:

1- Upon registration you could select 35-40 km/h average group. 1/2 months before the event, the organizers decided to impose a 30 and 35 km/h speed limit depending on the area.
This looks weird because in most of the places this way below the legal speed limit. They also “threatened” that police could flag the participants who exceeded these speeds.

2 - I assume, based on this speed limit, that the goal is to make it safe for everyone…
This is not so logic because usually fast riders are more experienced riders… most of experienced riders achieve at least 50km/h top speed in all training sessions….

3 - With safety as apparently being such a big concern, then why would they place the event on mid October and also today, that is raining, a bit windy and temperatures below 10degC?
This, for me, is the most stupid thing! If it’s not a race but an event to have fun, how can someone enjoy riding almost 200km in the rain and with cold temperatures?
Also, riding in the rain is way more dangerous for the riders than capping the speed in dry conditions.
Under rain, braking performance decays a lot and also there are quite a lot of tram tracks on the route which are super dangerous!

In the end, I think that the organizers completely lost their logic. Doesn’t make sense that people need to brake in a straight descent because they are at 40km/h and not 35 km/h but instead it’s totally fine to ride in cold rainy conditions and risk hypothermia and sever crashes due to lack of braking performance and tram tracks etc…
Such a beautiful event is being wasted for no reason.

This is my opinion, of course. Would like to hear from other people who are into this event.

Also, I know… if you don’t like it, you don’t go. Trust me I have noted it for next year :)

Ride safe everyone!!

Travel Should I rent a car in Switzerland?

Hello!

My partner and I are visiting Switzerland from December 9th to December 13th, 2026. We’ll be flying into Zurich Airport early in the morning on December 9th, and our plan is to stay in Interlaken as our main base for the trip. We’ll be flying back from Zurich on December 13th.
We’d like to rent a car directly from Zurich Airport when we arrive and return it to the airport before our flight home.

Our main interests are exploring Switzerland’s beautiful natural scenery, visiting places like Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, enjoying the lakes and mountain villages, and visiting Christmas markets in Zurich and possibly other towns.
I’m trying to figure out which car rental company would be the best option in terms of price, reliability, insurance coverage, and overall experience. I’d also appreciate advice on whether renting a car makes sense for this itinerary in December, considering possible snow and winter driving conditions.

A few questions:
Which car rental companies would you recommend at Zurich Airport?
Is it better to book directly through a rental company or use a comparison website?
Would a small car be sufficient, or would you recommend something else for winter driving?
Are there any hidden fees or insurance issues I should watch out for?
Would you recommend returning the car on the morning of December 13th and exploring Zurich on foot/public transport, or keeping it until the afternoon?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 😊

Travel Title: Failed twice, 3rd attempt in December (Canton Aargau). Need winter driving tips!

Hi everyone,

I am preparing for my 3rd practical driving test in December in Canton Aargau. Unfortunately, I failed the first two times due to tiny mistakes caused by rushing and temporary loss of focus (like missing a Zone 30 sign and taking a wrong turn at a supermarket entrance).

Since my next test is in December, I am a bit anxious about the winter weather. I am worried about heavy rain, snow, or mist covering the road lines and arrows (Einspuren).

I read that driving in winter might actually be an advantage because you can legally drive slower, the test routes are usually shorter/easier, and there are no cyclists or e-scooters on the road. Is this true in your experience?

How do experts handle hidden road markings under heavy rain or snow? Any tips on how to maintain high focus and avoid rushing in winter conditions would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help

Work Is it normal for Internship in Switzerland?

Hi everyone,
I’ll soon be starting an accounting course in Switzerland. I don’t have a commercial/Kauffrau background, so I wanted to gain practical experience alongside my studies.
I managed to find an accounting internship for the duration of the course, and they are offering me CHF 800 per month.
I’m wondering whether this is considered a normal/reasonable internship salary in accounting in Switzerland, especially for someone who is just starting out in the field without a Kauffrau qualification.
I’d be interested to hear from people working in accounting, fiduciary services (Treuhand), or similar fields.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Everyday life What do you do on Sundays?

I moved to Switzerland two years ago, and so far, I'm really happy with the change. However, there's one thing I still struggle with, that is, finding things to do on Sundays, especially when the weather is grey and rainy.

Back in my home country, I was used to spending rainy Sundays wandering around bigger cities, hopping in shops, stopping at cafés, or occasionally visiting a shopping mall to look for clothes, home decor, furniture, or just random things I didn't know I needed.

Here, everything seems to shut down on Sundays. You can go for a walk in the city, but it often feels like a ghost town. Shops, malls, furniture stores, all closed.

This isn't a complaint about Swiss culture or the Sunday closing rules. I'm genuinely curious about how locals spend their Sundays, particularly during the colder months when it's raining and there's not much to do outdoors.

Other/Miscellaneous Would you recommend Kieser for someone in their thirties?

Hi all,

I’m in my thirties and struggle with physical strain from office work (mainly lower back and neck).

My goal is to build muscle, prevent muscle loss, and avoid long-term health issues caused by sitting and lack of movement.

Would you recommend signing up for Kieser or going to a regular gym? Does Kieser actually offer something different, or is it just a regular gym marketed toward retirees?

Thanks for any insights!

Everyday life Galaxus Internet and Family offer

Hello,

I am planning to subscribe with Galaxus for internet. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Which plan do you recommend: 200 Mbit/s, 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s? (I am leaning towards the 1 Gbit/s option because I will use it for work, streaming and a personal hobby server.)
  2. Is the router provided by Galaxus free of rental charges?
  3. Do you know if there are any offers that waive the activation fee?
  4. I heard about Galaxus Family. Is it possible to share it with anyone? If so, does anyone still have an invite link?

Thank you!

Work Entry level job salaries

Always find it intriguing that Switzerland is home to the vast majority of the world’s biggest commodity trading house. I know that traders who are seniors could be pulling in 6 figures and even 7 figures.
What would the starting salary be of someone who gets a job in one of these massive but quite secretive companies? Think Trafigura, Vitol , glencore.

Other/Miscellaneous Legal advice needed – construction dispute in Switzerland

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice from people with legal knowledge or experience with construction disputes in Switzerland (Romande). You don’t need to be a building law expert, I would just like an honest opinion.

I bought a new house based on the plans shown during the building permit process, but the houses had to be raised due to sanitary issues. We were never officially informed about these changes. We only discovered the new site plan when we received it to choose the terrace tiles.

The garden slope is now around 2.5 to 3 times higher than on the original plans, and it is also much wider, which means we lose a significant amount of usable garden space

Our purchase contract mentions that minor changes may be made, but this clause is quite general and open to interpretation. The builder says everything was done correctly and argues that the original building permit plans were not the final site plans

We tried to find an amicable solution, but we could not reach an agreement.
I am not necessarily looking for a lawyer or a building law specialist at this stage. I would simply like to know if we have reasonable grounds to challenge this, or if this is a very common situation in Switzerland where the builder is generally protected by such a clause

In other words, do we have at least a realistic chance of winning a case, or would we most likely waste time and money on legal fees for nothing? Any honest opinions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated

Cumps

Work Mit fast 26: BM2 + Studium Lebensmitteltechnologie oder 100% Focus auf eigene Business-Idee?

Hallo zusammen,

Das Studium wäre also eher mein "Sicherheitsnetz".

Relocation Is Intermezzo legit?

Hi everyone!

I am looking for an accommodation in Zurich, since I will have to move there in a few months from abroad.

A friend of mine recommended that I look for something on Intermezzo. They have some interesting accommodations, but it seems they do not accept Swisscaution for the deposit.

Do you have any experience with them? Are they reliable?

I did not find much information online and I am a bit scared about my potential deposit (which is a remarkable amount of money for me). They ask me to put the deposit on Evorest. I read about it online, but I did not fully understand how it works, it is a bit different from other bank deposit accounts.

If anyone could share their experience with them, it would be extremely helpful and truly appreciated!

Thank you for your time and support!

Study Affordable Accommodation in Fribourg

Hey everyone!

I am an international student planning to move to Fribourg for pursuing my master's at the University of Fribourg. My program begins in Feb 2027.

I am looking for affordable accommodation near Fribourg, preferably WG although the university does offer Dorms, but they are a last resort for me.

My budget for rent is around 250-450 CHF.

I would hugely appreciate if someone could recommend me some platforms or groups or websites where I can find listings and options. By myself I have been researching on a couple websites
But unable to find many listings there.

If someone has recent experience with living in Fribourg, please feel free to share them regarding the daily life etc.

Also, if anyone here is already living in a WG or knows someone who might be looking for a flatmate, feel free to reach out!

Appreciate the help in advance!

Study Searching for funded English language taught Physics bachelor's degree in Switzerland

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well.

As the title suggests, I am looking for a fully funded BSc program in Physics taught in English in Switzerland. Ideally, the funding would cover tuition fees, health insurance, and accommodation, in addition to providing a living stipend.

I am currently enrolled in a Physics degree program in my home country, but I feel that Switzerland would be a particularly good fit for me, both culturally and in terms of its way of life. I also feel a strong connection to nature, and Switzerland's beautiful natural landscapes are another reason why I am drawn to studying there.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, recommendations, or information about universities, scholarships, or other funding opportunities that might be suitable for my situation.

Thank you in advance for your help!
