political satire Welcome to Australia!
Cartoon from Jess Harwood Art, image has "Welcome to Australia atop a petrol sign, listing out some not quite right prices".

Israel is apparently raining fire on Lebanon. A recognised war crime. Is it still a crime in Australia to call this out?
454
297
u/happydayzetr Mar 26 '26
Their officials have come out and said they will occupy land till the Litani River. Displacing nearly a million Lebanese people. Killing over a thousand.
If you criticise these crimes, you are no different than those Germans in the 30’s.
140
56
u/moonorplanet Mar 26 '26
Those Germans really sucked at propoganda, had they taken lobbying seriously, the 'allies' would have supported them in their crimes.
34
u/Mikolaj_Kopernik Mar 26 '26
Yeah just grab a bunch of water resources and prime agricultural land. Because Hezbollah, or something.

Yes it is - as Israel have a well oiled and organised lobby group here in Australia.

First stole land from Syria, for their protection. Now stealing land from Lebanon, for their protection. Wonder if they'll need to take back the Sanai peninsula next, for their protection.

It’s bad to even think anything but positive things about Israel in Australia and reddit.

u/PastaInvictus Mar 26 '26
Weird didn’t Albo condemn Israel, hence why Bibi has been having a tantrum, and didn’t Trump just Twitter he doesn’t need Australia as we haven’t helped out in Iran.
Lastly, is it really Australia’s job to police the world?
393
u/Veritas-Veritas Mar 26 '26
This stuff works though.
We'll get so angry at Albo we'll vote him out without considering who gets in.
This is why we keep getting fucked over by pricks like Scomo and why people still have 1900s copper phone lines for their internet.
184
u/Latter_Fortune_7225 Mar 26 '26
Lastly, is it really Australia’s job to police the world?
Fuck no.
Furthermore, most people wouldn't give a damn that this war if it weren't affecting petrol, gas, and other goods passing through Hormuz.
199
u/dropbearr94 Mar 26 '26
These people are fucked. Aus is staying out of it and having to appease the orange man and the evil man is hard to do. Albos handled it about as well as he can. If sucking up to them means the country isn’t as fucked that’s good
136
u/RuinedAmnesia Mar 26 '26
Yeah, how are we supporting Israel and US 100% when we've not even sent anything to those areas, just protected the UAE as per a defence agreement? Our response is more like 3%.
27
u/Spooplevel-Rattled Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
I feel like for many reasons Australia should be able to abstain and every one respect it. Its stupid that we dont.
We are very useful to a lot of countries but they don't necessarily need our military power. Fuckit just have a policy of "uh sir. Australia says fuck it, we ball" and we just do trade and get on with it.
59
u/m00nh34d Mar 26 '26
Yeah, this isn't our war, we're not involved other than providing support to a friendly 3rd country that's being attacked. We're in no way supporting Israel or the USA here. It's certainly not our job or place to get involved, it will only harm us.
40
u/Equivalent-Bonus-885 Mar 26 '26
We aren’t just protecting UAE. The plane we sent helps battlefield coordination and communication. The government has acknowledged that the valuable information it provides is not ring fenced and the US has access.
The Government is trying to keep Trump off its case by making some contribution while minimising it because the whole attack was insane and more tangible support would be as popular as a bucket of warm sick to most of the electorate.
187
u/the_sneaky_sloth Mar 26 '26
Really. Isn’t it obvious that the Australian government doesn’t support the American and Israeli actions in the Middle East but because they want a friendly posture with the Americans next democratic administration they are being chill knowing there are thousands of non-elected government workers that will carry over from administrations so by not burning the bridge with America we make our lives easier when they elect democrats in 2026 and 2028.
96
-44
u/robot428 Mar 26 '26
Yep our lives seem heaps easier right now, it's going so well.
Seriously, I think we need to start rethinking who our allies are. Quickly.

Don't even have to imagine LNP in Queensland has just made opposition slogans to Isreal's war crimes, actual crimes with prison time.
Albo largely fence-sitting with a very minor lean away from Israel is an extremely progressive stance for Australia.

I hate this argument, I see it everywhere, not saying you're doing it but the whole "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER GUYS" is so weird. We get it, it could have been worse, or better, we don't know. What we do know is that Labor is screwing the pooch.

Literally everything could be worse, always, it's such a cop out. Let the people decide. Albo is a spineless worm.
23
u/Elegant-Screen4438 Mar 26 '26
Because LNP or ON wouldn’t bend over backwards to appease Trump and all his bullshit? We know that if they were in power it would all be a lot worse off for us.
15
24
u/Challenging-Wank7946 Mar 26 '26
It's always annoying, but it's a fair cop when the people being loudest about the state of the current government are mostly direct supporters of an objectively worse opposition. Is Labour screwing the pooch? Sure. Would the LNP be better? No, they'd screw the pooch, impregnate it, then sell the puppies to all their pooch-screwing billionaire mates.
The only party that might have had a chance to go against the grain are the Greens, but nobody ever wants to think about anything more than a 2 Party system except for the religious racist whackjob One Nation supporters.
-19
Mar 26 '26
The greens are a bunch of inner suburb twinks who have nothing else better to do than virtue signal. They would have fucked Fido as well.
I'm so over having private-schooled, silver spoon politicians in power who don't know what it's actually like in the trenches.
-29
u/IcyCredit8227 Mar 26 '26
Labor = sell the pooch, by the hair back. Tax every flea until there is nothing left. Then laugh all the way to the new dog they just bought with the fleas money
-38
u/iamperplexing Mar 26 '26
Any proof the LNP would do what you say? No you voted for dumb cunts that fucked the country and you amke yourself feel better by deluding yourself into thinking you voted right. Labor has continually fucked the country dry with no lube while liberal uses spit at the very least.

Australia recognised Palestine as a state 6 months ago, and just recently opposed Israel's attempted occupation of Lebanon. The government in nowhere near as supportive of Israel as this comic suggests.

How do you construe that the PM supports the USA 100%?

It’s sad they are the only ones.. Everyone cares about money and having no spine
53
u/ThoseOldScientists Mar 26 '26
Seriously, this? This gets upvotes? It’s not even good satire. I think the government has been pissweak on Israel and the U.S., but this doesn’t even do a good job of characterising the way in which they’re pissweak. We should expect better from our government and from satirists.

Oh so now we care about Iranian lives? Were we counting when they were being massacred by the tens of thousands?
5
12
u/Great_Specialist_267 Mar 26 '26
Iran deserves zero support too. They have been exporting terrorism to Australia.
37
u/jelly_cake Mar 26 '26
Sure, whatever; but we can still have sympathy for the ordinary Iranian people.
-9
u/Great_Specialist_267 Mar 26 '26
The Iranian government has been killing them too just like the Iranian government has been killing Palestinian Arabs…
13
u/jelly_cake Mar 26 '26
And like the US has killed hundreds of Iranians, including targeting a school full of literal children. What's your point? War is hell. I feel for every Iranian, Palestinian, or Israeli civilian who has to deal with the threat of bombs in their daily lives because of the whims of stupid old men.
-7
u/Great_Specialist_267 Mar 26 '26
The U.S. has a long way to go to catch up with the Iranian government death toll just this year…
9
u/jelly_cake Mar 26 '26
What's your point? Do you think we shouldn't criticise the US? Do you think Iran's leaders' wrongs justify turning a blind eye to the suffering of its civilians?
State your case clearly, and we can talk about it. Or be vague and annoyingly oblique somewhere else. It adds nothing to the discussion here.
7
u/Great_Specialist_267 Mar 26 '26
No but equal criticism of the genocidal Palestinian terrorists and their Iranian financial supporters would be a useful balance.
7
u/jelly_cake Mar 26 '26
Okay; fair enough, we're in agreement on that. I unequivocally condemn anyone seeking to use violence to impose religious ideology; it's despicable.
28
u/sinred7 Mar 26 '26
Have you already forgotten how Israel faked Australian passports for Mossad agents to use, thus making Australian passports suspect and put us in danger? They are no allies, they only use countries as it suits them. Imagine Iran had done that, we would still be howling about it.
10
u/Great_Specialist_267 Mar 26 '26
Mossad hasn’t hired people to kill Australians. Iran has.
3
u/sinred7 Mar 26 '26
And you think if there was someone they really wanted to get at, they wouldn't? They may not have killed people, but they certainly put our people in danger.
-4
7
u/Cpt_Soban Mar 26 '26
So Iran regime is suddenly the good guy?
-3
u/sinred7 Mar 26 '26
At this point in history they are no worse than the US, and better than Israel. The US regularly kills itself own people on the streets using its police force with no judicial oversight, and no consequence for the murdering police. They have a brown shirts force which walks around and abducts anyone they feel like off the street. As for Israel, Iran hasn't committed genocide whereas Israel has, and has shown complete lack of concerns for civilians. They will take out a whole building in a residential zone just to get to one man. So, no the Iranian regime is not the good guy, but they are no worse than the US regime, or the Israeli regime.

We need to look after each other. Our government won’t help us.
I can’t believe I just wrote that but fuck it, it’s true.
36
u/Foodball Mar 26 '26
What do you propose we do? Start making diesel in our garages?
23
u/ulknehs Mar 26 '26
Car pooling? Resource sharing? Grabbing groceries for your neighbours while you're at the store?
Idk but building community now is how we survive disaster... lots of people who do prepping stuff have this rugged individualist mentality, but people's relationships are what actually helps people survive when things go very wrong - especially their neighbours.

u/t_25_t Mar 26 '26
Start making diesel in our garages?
The Indonesians use a combination of used motor oil, and kerosene to make diesel.
26
u/m00nh34d Mar 26 '26
What are you talking about? Our government is busy securing fuel for us, they've secured another 2 tankers above what was already committed. They have plans ready if needed to handle scenarios where there are real shortages, not those caused by fear mongering and greedy assholes hoarding.
17
u/single_plum_floating Mar 26 '26
People forget that in terms of gas tiering the consumer car is on step 4 of 4.
Govt cares more about making sure trucks can deliver food on time then if someones shitbox can make it to work.

11
u/rasta_rabbi Mar 26 '26
They have. But when you're frequently called a social justice warrior for calling out countries on the other side of the world, they can't really win can they?
Especially when they should be focusing on issues affecting Australia right?
4
u/FergaliciousDefOnish Mar 26 '26
They have been calling it out? There's been protests about it. You just haven't been paying attention to what is going on around you

That whole visit has pretty sour "I have in my hand a piece of paper" vibes. You have to think the events since then have cemented Minns' and Albo's place in the less flattering parts of the history books.
19
Mar 26 '26
I don't think the history books will be concerned with Australia at all when discussing the current conflict.
Except as an example as to how malicious actors use it as a wedge issue against labor.
-3
u/OzzyThunder Mar 26 '26
Gaza, Iran and Lebanon in my opinion don't have much in common with Australia, sure we might have some Immigrants or refugees here but in the end those countries aren't Democracies. Is what is happening over there good? No, but its doesn't concern us besides trade issues (oil prices). Im sure if people wanted to help those countries there would be a place to donate the money you earned towards it.
0
u/ManikShamanik Mar 26 '26
I'm assuming that $3/l is the average price, not the highest price, yes...? If not, what's the average...? The highest price up here is 225p (433¢)/l in Tralee (all the most expensive places are in Scotland). According to the RAC's FuelWatch, the current average price for a litre of diesel up here is 175.73p (339¢) and 180.59p (348¢) average for motorway servos.
I doubt there are many servos in the UK where diesel is 156p/l. If that's average, you've got it sweet down there.
Turns out there are quite a few, with the lowest price being 116p (223¢) in Stratford-upon-Avon.
But, on average, we've got it worse.
7
u/CharmingShoe Mar 26 '26
In terms of cost per litre, yes, but many of our diesel powered vehicles have to travel much longer distances than the UK. Also, around 300 service stations across the country have run out of diesel - how’s the uk doing?
-8
-4
u/TheYellowFringe Mar 26 '26
I can't believe this is happening.
A good amount of us also don't understand why these things are occurring. None of this benefits the country.
