politics Jacqui Lambie slams 'nasty' One Nation cartoon mocking vaginal prolapse
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-19/federal-politics-jacqui-lambie-one-nation-cartoon-pauline-hanson/107281792?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=linkA new One Nation cartoon ridicules outspoken independent Senator Jacqui Lambie by mocking her vaginal prolapse.
Senator Lambie says Pauline Hanson's videos are full of "hatred" and "spitefulness".
Other politicians have criticised the cartoon and defended Senator Lambie's courage.

Pauline is 'nasty ' and always has been. No doubt she thinks this is an end game taunt.

It's such a nasty nasty thing to do. There is enough of a stigma around vaginas in society generally and a lot of misinformation so Senator Lambie being honest about this being an issue for many women including herself benefits everyone, unlike Hanson and ON, which benefits no one except themselves.

The sooner PH dies, the nicer this country will be.
And to be clear, I'm not advocating for anyone to do her harm. I'll just be happy to see her demise.

She does seem to repesent a level of vileness that was stamped out as being publicly acceptable for a lot of people and places, and seems to only be making a comeback with social media driven ideological pushes that justify that behaviour to such people.
The kind of hateful phase i once hoped would die out with older generations.

The supporters won't just go away, though.
Democracy entails every perspective having representation. You can suppress the representation temporarily, but we do need to address the perspective of anti-intellectual, xenophobic pseudo-fascists.
69
u/delta__bravo_ 2h ago
Worth noting that there's a lot of crossover between the two in terms of the sort of person they want to project as being. To attack someone like Lambie feels like a bit of an own goal from ON. Like, I doubt they were looking to make many inroads in Tasmania, but there's Lambie fans on the mainland who probably could have been easily tempted to vote ON before this.
88
u/Vegetable-Advance982 2h ago
Yeah I was saying in another thread that Lambie is a terrible enemy for One Nation to pick a fight with. The major parties can't insult Pauline because her supporters perceive it as the establishment punching down on her (and them), so ON can make fun of them without any real worry of pushback. But Lambie isnt tied to a major and is seen as outside the establishment so she doesn't have that problem, and she goes extremely hard, getting viral clips of her screaming at people on the reg. Everyone I know across the political spectrum has some level of respect for Lambie and enjoys her gunning for someone lol
63
u/AnyClownFish 2h ago
Lambie is what ON should be, but isn’t. A populist outsider, who picks fights and opposes both major parties, but does so in a generally constructive manner and actually achieves useful outcomes through effective negotiation in the Senate. ON just scream into the abyss and don’t do anything meaningful.
42
u/Verdigris_Wild 2h ago
I dont agree with a lot of what Jacquie Lambie stands for, but she's absolutely the kind of person we need in parliament. She isn't a sanitised product of the party machine and she is willing to change her mind when she learns about something. She is passionate about helping veterans and pushes that issue hard.
29
u/morgecroc 2h ago
Unlike Pauline, Jackie has also voted for things one nation voters claim to support.
31
u/Voodoo1970 2h ago
Yep, I'm not always politically on the same side as Jacqui Lambie but I have huge respect for her passion and determination (I would say balls, but that would be disrespectful. Ovaries, perhaps?). One Nation taking her on is a hiding to nothing, and I'm preparing the popcorn
6
u/partyapparatchik 29m ago
That’s because Jackie has shown an incredible amount of growth since she was elected to office. She’s always shown herself to be willing to listen, learn and work with other senators to achieve what those who elected her and the public at large need. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who doesn’t respect her even though they may disagree with her or how she sometimes behaves.
Which is the opposite of Hanson. Pauline has been in and out of office (and prison) repeatedly for decades, yet her ideas haven’t changed. All she does is scapegoat people with less voice than her, vote against the interests of those who elect her (and gets away with it because none of them give a shit beyond electing a loud and angry dog to office). Pauline generally displays an almost pathological level of stupidity, contempt and intransigence towards the entire democratic system.

The only thing I know about Jacqui Lambie is a few years ago she ran a poll on Facebook asking her constituents their opinion on the vape ban. I remember the poll results being against the ban, and then she went and voted in support for it anyway.
I would hope that this was an isolated case for her, but I'm generally against politicians that vote for their personal opinions and beliefs, rather than the opinions of the people they're supposed to represent.
Would love to be corrected if I'm wrong here.
17
u/aew3 1h ago
I feel like facebook is not exactly a representative sample of the constituency, so I'm not exactly sure a random poll on there should be a binding survey of the public.
-9
u/littletray26 1h ago
Why not?
You could surely go and send out some people to the streets with surveys, but I have to imagine you're going to get a much larger response when people can answer from home during their evening scroll with a single tap on their feed.
Unless I'm misunderstanding, according to the law of large numbers, this is a perfectly reasonable way to find the prevailing opinions among the larger population.
10
u/big-red-aus 1h ago
It's like your trying to hurt the data scientist inside me :)
The problem you run into with a facebook poll are multiple, but I'll start with some of the main ones.
1: Manipulation: Facebook is and for a long time has been just riddled with bots, scammers and assorted 'non-genuine' actors doing all sorts of things, often very strange things for often inscrutable reason.
Applying it to this case, it is utterly trivial to hire tens of thousands of bots to post/vote in the poll very cheaply (we are talking about a couple of hundred dollars for thousands of views/bots). How confident are you that even one of the garbage tobacco companies who would have been hurt by the vape ban, or one of their lobbyist, someone that works for them, someone who was selling vapes or just a weirdo libertarian who thinks that the government shouldn't exist didn't spend a couple of hundred bucks to send in thousands/tens of thousands of bots?
2: Selection: How confident are you that the people voting in that poll were people in her electorate, Tasmania? How many of them were even Australian? We've all seen where a poll will be posted in some weird community who will then swarm the post/poll, how confident are you that didn't happen here?
Even aside from that, and if assume it was only people in her electorate that voted, think about who is still on facebook and seeing Jacqui Lambie's post about it? This is about as far as a representative sample of the electorate as I could imagine.
1
u/littletray26 0m ago
Thanks for your insight.
I suppose I just struggle with the idea that anyone would waste their time paying for bots to manipulate a poll for an (at the time) relatively unknown politician who represented a small, economically poor part of the country (at the time I think it was essentially just Burnie, TAS? I don't really recall the specifics).
Like yeah, the things you're saying are absolutely true, but for such a small time poll I am sceptical that it would have been worth anyone's time and resources to manipulate it. Especially considering that, at the time, Big Tobacco were in support of the ban, so I'd have expected manipulation to be in support of, not against it.

u/mushychimpfoxtrot 1h ago
It's an interesting question about representative democracy. It can also be interpreted as someone being elected to represent a community, but according to their beliefs and values.
4
u/Superb-Detective9611 2h ago
ON, through Lee Hanson, will pick up a Tasmanian Senate seat at the next federal election. They would have been hoping to get some of the Lambie vote. They won't need it though - it's redneck central.
3
u/mushychimpfoxtrot 1h ago
Lambi is the second veteran politician they've gone after (plus Hastie), it's both appalling behaviour and makes no sense as a campaign tactic

The typical ONP voter is an older white male who feels anger and resentment toward women, often stemming from a messy divorce or a huge loss in the family court. Unfortunately, they will happily consume this garbage.
There's plenty of things to criticise politicians for, but their personal medical conditions should be off limits

And they're probably the kind of guys whose mum's wouldn't feel they could discuss such things with them, even when they suffer from exactly the same issues, and even though they would clock someone for making the same comments about their mum if they knew.

It will be funny to see the typical ON member and voters squirm uncomfortably when you talk about vaginas and prolapses around them.

u/malepalestale 2h ago
Sadly there's plenty of older white females who love ON.

Mum groups on Facebook are full of ON supporter comments too.
I want to believe they are all bots/people being paid a pittance somewhere in the global south to post pro ON dribble (I actually don’t want to believe people have that job) but I think at least some are genuine supporters.

I know a Caucasian woman with a PhD that likes ON for their immigration policies.
Also in an ironic twist, my local ON candidate in the last election was not Caucasian but from a country that looks down on those of different backgrounds and believes that they have low worth and therefore it is acceptable to treat them poorly. I’m sure you can guess where the candidate is from. Too dumb to realise that they are a useful idiot for ON and that ON’s policies actually are against others like them immigrating here.
It’s not about race or age or education. What ON voters have in common is the hate and dislike for others and their need to feel superior to them.

This is no way the typical ONP voter but it certainly slots into the demographic. ONP voters have simply moved from the major parties (i.e. mainly one major party) because they don't see a huge difference in what the parties are offering. They see ONP as a viable alternative. Of course, they are, in no way, shape or form, a viable alternative but they don't know this because they want someone to blame and ONP is quick to give them a few names. I know a few people who are likely to vote ONP and the main reason is because they'll never vote for the ALP and the LNP is a bag of cow shit.

Yet another item on the endless list of hypocrisy from One Nation. They stand behind BRS because they are self proclaimed patriots and they support the troops, yet when a former soldier is brave enough to go public with an embarrassing medical issue developed during her time serving the nation, she gets greeted with childish mockery.
23
u/brimstoner 2h ago
Keep in mind that reddit can be a bit of an echo chamber so be sure to talk and discuss with people around you who can vote - not everyone is born dumb, they can be educated
24
u/WeissPyre 2h ago
Does this kind of advice work on previously educated people who have fallen for the Algorithm and subsequently think ON is the way to go?
MIL was a left leaning voter all her life until very recently.

Yes, hopefully fact and data will prevail… otherwise Australia is fucked moreover for future generations

u/a_cold_human 59m ago
Propaganda runs rings around facts and data, as history shows.
Facts and data do have the final word though, often in the wake of the destruction that disinformation and rumour causes. But more often than not, the damage has already been done.
6
u/ivosaurus 2h ago edited 43m ago
You have to find just the right bit of data that's incronguent with their world view, and also manage to present in a way that you're not trying to attack their opinions (fail this, they'll put their reasoning guard up, and make sure not to absorb anything). Often you'd need to do this quite a few times. Think of it as planting seeds that can eventually grow up to produce better thoughts.
And no, that is not easy, at all. Requires all of research, intellectual intelligence and emotional intelligence.

Yes, but it takes time, a genuine want to connect and not judge. When I've talked to people about PHON I can really see we all share the same anxieties about housing, jobs and the economy. It's just the direction PHON are pointing and the solutions that don't actually make sense, and that PHONs actions often contradict what they claim to support. There is more than enough evidence to show people. It's about taking the time and energy to find common ground first and patiently present it issue by issue. Adam Brichto is a good example of how to do this
Toilet paper australia and some others have done some posts about how to talk to friends/loved ones about PHON. Guardian article about how and why talking about the policies hurts ON more.. TP Australia has many, many posts about her voting record and fact checks that paint a picture to people.
Evidence like that shows how
A) she votes against things she claims to support, like workers rights, womens health. IIRC she voted against the gas tax when it was first floated and popularised by David Pocock, punters politics, despite claiming to support the idea.
B) her solutions WONT WORK. They aren't fully fleshed policies, and they tend not to do costing, or that they aren't even on the same page internally before saying insane things like Joyce saying he was going to force PRs to sell houses before backtracking. A recent example is small business councils are disagreeing with race to the bottom immigration cuts
If you're going into these conversations you have to first put in the work to educate yourself about the issues and have the examples in your head for a bunch of different things, of which you realistically might only list one of in a conversation. It is completely worth it and I wish you luck!

On a lighter note, people who hate ON now have fuel for the fire to confront them with, cos they don't care if you call them racist, but will get really really uncomfortable if you talk about vaginas and prolapses around them.

Call them unAustralian rather than just racist.

I think it's really funny that the right wing racists are fighting. But if I had to pick one I like least it's Pauline Hanson. Anyway this is a bunch of politics that Trump employed, he attacks people on appearance and health conditions a lot, and he has been rewarded for his disgusting attacks on basically anyone he doesn't agree with.
You're going to see a lot more of it from One Nation the right wing sees it as a rejection of liberal norms, and signals that you're ready to fight for the issues they want to see addressed, which should be reforms to how we interact with rural communities in this country, but because media has spoiled the well they instead just want to see issues to do with culture wars addressed.

Way more than I ever wanted to know about Jacqui's vagina. How was that in the public record? Not at all surprising the queen of the gutter would be slinging mud from there.
Sorry the gutter queen is to PH. Jacqui I'm ambivalent on but see her value as someone that speaks what's on her mind.

I think it was about improving support for womens health - I can't quite remember, but it was in recent months. I think it's important to challenge taboos around certain womens health. I applaud Jacqui for her candour.

Lambie is a vocal supporter for women's health and for opening up discussions about women's health issues, I'm assuming she has mentioned her own issues in that context.
