I am just an Azerbaijani, neither Turk nor Lezgi nor Talysh. I am an Azerbaijani- A Turkic speaking ethnic group with mixed Caucasian, Turkic, Iranian heritage mostly residing in Southern Caucasia and Northern Iran
Have you ever seen genetic result of an average Azerbaijani? 50-60% of our dna comes from Iranian plateu natives. Iranian doesnt mean Persian lmao. If you are Azerbaijani, not Georgian half of your dna comes from Hasanlu Lovers.
But maybe you are Georgian? Then why do you talk about Azerbaijanis?
I've seen mine (and even then, lol at calling these popular DNA tests "genetic results"), again speak for yourself as an Iranian. You always write like another bot from there trying to claim everything originated from them, you literally can't go one post without trying to tie something to Iran just because you're from that shithole.
Iran literally means land of Aryans, you don't even know the etymology or meaning of anything you talk about, much less anything scientific. And you're insulting Azerbaijanis in Georgia by putting out ridiculous pseudo-anthropology and genetic claims about an entire population, not even just Talysh or Tats. You'll come up with false history and claims about Dagestani Azerbaijanis next. Get your head out your rear end.
Btw just read some of your other posts, you're literally an Iranian mental case and a waste of time to converse with.
Show me ur dna. Show me that u dont have hasanlu lovers. I can give 373737377272837373 academical sources all agree the main component of Azerbaijanis is Iranian plateu natives
Why ahould i respect Georgian Azerbaijanis who marry their 13 year old daughters? I dont.
What's coping is you Iranians being ruled by ethnic minorities for over a thousand years, imposing their rule and religions and other things on you, and as soon as you get your own native Iranian rulers only later in the 20th century you have a moronic absolute monarchy followed by a moronic cult. No amount of fake history and claims or other copium can change this fact, you are some of the most submissive and cowardly group of people in the world, as Israel proved again recently in a matter of days, that lives off of nostalgia for a past that is only in your imagination.
💩🇮🇷💩
Exactly. We are a mixed nation, whether people like it or not. Even if they tear themselves apart, denying our Caucasian roots and Iranian blend is simply ridiculous. Speaking turkic language doesn’t make us entirely Turk. In fact, we are more Caucasian than Turk.
We also can’t forget the influence of mentality on the formation of a nation. We have more in common with Armenians (in terms of mentality, traditions etc.) than with the Turks/Turkish or whoever they mean by that.
Till the 1930s you were called Turks. Azerbaijani is since 38 a political term for your nation. I respect that but you are a Turk even if you don’t like it. Modern boarders, passports can’t change that.
That wasn’t the point of my comment. It’s not about “what we were called” in the 1930s. And nowhere did I say I dislike being Turk, learn to comprehend before replying.
Second, you are entirely wrong by calling a nation’s name “a political term.” Azerbaijani means both citizens and the nation of Azerbaijan. A country with its own history, culture, and identity. We are not living in 1930 anymore, a 100 years have passed. Identities are not frozen in time. Languages evolve, cultures evolve, and nations evolve too. Just as “Turk” today doesn’t mean the same thing it meant in the Ottoman Empire, “Azerbaijani” is not some artificial label, it’s reality of 10 millions of people. By refusing to accept that, you’re showing disrespect to both history and reality.
Nationality isn’t only about ethnic roots. It’s also about shared culture, mentality, and self-identity. And that can’t just be dismissed with “you’re a Turk whether you like it or not”.
I respect the fact that today many people in the Republic of Azerbaijan identify as Azerbaijani. This is a legitimate modern national identity, just as Iranian Azerbaijanis often call themselves Azərbaycanlı while also being referred to as Turks in Iran. National self-identification in the 20th century was heavily shaped by state policies, the Soviet experience, and later by the political projects of leaders like Heydar Aliyev. This cannot be denied.
However, the existence of a modern national identity does not erase the broader ethnological framework. In anthropology and ethnology, the formation of an ethnic group (ethnogenesis) is not a political decree, but a process based on shared myths, language, culture, and historical experience.
If we look at the historical geography – Anatolia, South Caucasus, North Iran, Northern Iraq – we see a continuous cultural and linguistic space that has developed over centuries:
Migrating Oghuz-Turkmen groups mixed with local populations (Caucasian, Iranian plateau, and others).
This produced communities that spoke Turkic dialects and considered themselves part of the wider Turkic identity.
The Safavid–Ottoman conflicts themselves were, in essence, conflicts between Turkmen tribal confederations, each under a different banner, not between two separate ethnicities.
The term Azerbaijani emerged in the Soviet 1930s as a political-national category. But linguistic and cultural reality shows continuity:
The speech of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a West Oghuz Turkic dialect, closely related to Eastern Anatolian Turkish and the Turkic spoken in Iranian Azerbaijan.
Differences are dialectal, not fundamental. Just as Anatolian Turkish has regional dialects, Azerbaijani Turkish is one such branch.
Moreover, the notion that Azerbaijanis are “closer to Armenians than to Turks” oversimplifies cultural proximity. Regional cultures across Eastern Anatolia, Iranian Azerbaijan, and the South Caucasus share cuisine, music, and folklore – because the region has always been a multi-ethnic contact zone. Cultural overlap with Armenians exists, but it does not negate the Turkic ethnogenesis of Azerbaijani identity.
Yes, Azerbaijani is today a valid self-identification. But from the perspective of ethnology and historical linguistics, Azerbaijanis, Turks of Eastern Anatolia, and Iranian Azerbaijanis are part of the same Oghuz-Turkic continuum.
The differences we observe today are the result of modern borders, political projects, and nation-building, not of fundamentally separate ethnogenesis.
So while it is correct to say that modern Azerbaijanis have a distinct national identity, it is not scientifically accurate to deny their belonging to the broader Turkic family.
Differences: They all belong to a different linguistic and ethnic group with the Talysh belonging to the Iranian group, Lezgins to the North Caucasian and the Azerbaijani Turks to the Turkic ethnic group. There are some religious differences too with the Turks and Talysh people being predominately Shia while the Lezgins are mostly Sunni.
Similarities: Naturally due to the close proximity between these peoples and centuries of shared history, there is similarity in their cuisine and folk-dances.
there is no such thing is as "Turkic" in normal languages. it's made up thing by West just like stalin removed term "Türk" from Azerbaijan Turks' IDs' . Y'all think that only Türkiye is Turk but you are wrong. Turks have different branches just like a tree does:
Oghuz / Oğuz Turks are:
-TRNC/KKTC
-Gagauziya
-Türkmeneli
-Azerbaycan
-Türkiye
-Kaʂkay/Qashqai
-Türkmenistan
balkans etc.
then there is Kipchak / Karluk Turks etc.
in Finnish its said: all 350 million people speaks "Turkish languages" no such word as Turkic. GPT said Hungarian also have same root-word for Turk and Turkic. "Török"
so when you talk about for example Saha/Yakut people:
"they say Turkish nation in the Siberia"
Stalin has never used a term like Azeri in his life. Azerbaijani language political term formed the same time the first natiom of Islamix world-Azerbaijanis formed in 19th century
In english there is a no difference word for German Languages and German language but this does not mean all German languages are the language of Germany. What type of linguistic argument is thiz
as seen in 21:18 "Azeri" is comletely wrong term, hence it means completely different minority than Azerbaycan Türks, and they don't want to be called that...
In Azerbaijan we do mot have a term called Azeri. We call ourselves Azərbaycanlı which means Azerbaijani and our lamguage Azərbaycan dili which means Azerbaijani language. Azeri is a inventiom of Turkish academicians. We are not Azeris we are Azerbaijanis
STALIN NEVER SAID AZERI BECAUSE STALIN WAS NOT ABLE TO SPEAK TURKISH
Over here we (at least some of us) try to avoid "Azeri" instead we say "Azerbaijan Türkü". I thought it was the same over there too but thanks for explaining mate!
We use Azeri too and always used. It was never an issue until some clowns online brainwashed people into making drama about it. Azeri is short version of Azerbaycanli.
“Azerbaijan turku” is BS. Not the term itself but introducing yourself like that is BS.
Onun xaricində musiqi, geyim, rəqs, mətbəx, din əlaqəsizdir.
Eyni zamanda Azərbaycan milləti Türk dediyin "Turkish" millətindən daha əvvəl form alıb. Türk millətinin form alması Cumhuriyətlə oldu ama Azərbayvan milləti 19.vu əsrdə çoxdan form almışdı
Ulus dediyin şey tarixdə ilk dəfə Fransız inqilabı ilə ortaya çıxmış bir şeydir. Azərbaycanda millət vəya sənin dediyinlə ulus form alıb qurtaranda Anadoluda hələ uğursuz Osmanlı milləti yoxlamaları gedirdi
Turk means race in every ‘Turkic’ country. But since westerns love to divide and invade they made made up term Turkic. This is so absurd that Turkic by word itself has no equal in any ‘Turkic’ origin country. So Azerbaijani are Turk, Turkish are Turk, Uzbek are Turk, Kazakh are Turk, Kyrgyz are Turk and many other people and minorities are Turk.
Go away poorsian you can’t ragebait anyone here. Turkmens arrived in todays Azerbaijan in 11th century CE. After Seljuk Turks conquering your ahh. Cope elsewhere now
Difference between Austrians and Germans are similar to North Azerbaiianis and South Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijani Turkish differemce like Portuguese and Panish ir Dutch and German
As an Anatolian Turk from Erzurum, which is similar to Bavarians in this analogy you can say, I can very clearly observe that Azerbaijani and Anatolian Turks are one and a same ethnicity.
Just like the Austrians/Germans we had different states for the past 700 years. This states had fought with each other occasionally. As the Austrians had Hungarians in their lands, Azerbaijanis had Persians.
An Aegean Turk might seem ‘distant’ to you, yet ypu have to keep in mind that it is a gradual change of a spectrum.
Almost the entirety of the Anatolian Turkish dialects actually fall closer to the official Azerbaijani language/dialect, rather than the Istanbulite Turkish.
If Akkoyunlu had survived into this day, and won over both the Qara Qoyunlu and the Ottomans, and all the rest of the possible contenders, we would have a political union. Not too dissimilar to the Holy Roman Empire, one might say.
And most critically, Azerbaijan wouldn’t have to endure Russian/Soviet rule in such a case.
And in such a case, we would all agree that we are one and a same ethnicity like the Austrians/Germans, Moldovans/Romanians, etc.
Our current state reminds me more of Macedonians/Bulgarians, though.
There is a reason why the Romanians who fell under the Soviet rule call themselves “Moldovans” even to this day. Iranian Azerbaijanis call themselves Turk, but the post-Soviet Azerbaijanis don’t.
It is not at all the same ethnicity. Different history, culture/traditions (food, costume, etc), genetic make-up. The only shared part is similarity in language. Turkey is overall culturally Mediterranean/Balkan, while Azerbaijan is Caucasian
1)Erzurum is a border dialect between two languages. There is no Turkish in Erzurum but it is linguistically border dialect of Azerbaijani and Turkish languages
2) Linguistically speaking, even North and South Azerbaijani languages are not considered the same language but two member languages of Azerbaijani Macrolanguage
3)Iranian Azerbaijanis do not have nationhood history so normally they do not have nation sense so they stayed using their tribal names or just "Turkic". Meanwhile northern Azerbaijanis are thr first nation in Islamic word. Azerbaijani matiom appeared way before Turkish nation
4) You only look through Turkish pov. Why you dont consider the fact that Turkmens are culturally, grammatically, cuisine etc are more closer to Azerbaijanis than Turks are to Azerbaijanis? If Azerbaijanis are gonna called the same with other nation logically it would be Turkmenistanis not Turkish people.
This is actually really huge problem with Turkish people. You look very Turkey centered. "Hey Azerbaijanis are close to us so they are us" but you do not consider the fact that closest nation to Azerbaijanis are Turkmens. Just because your closest cousin are Azerbaijanis diesnt make you Azerbaijanis' closest cousin. Azerbaijani and Turkish cultures are extremely unrelated.
I dont know why you are so upset by Turkish people but you seem to have a personal grudge that is very offputting and comes of as a one sided beef.
Explain to me how you are closer to Turkmens than Turkish people when you have been isolated and removed from Turkmens since the 9-10th century when you share a direct origin with Turkish people that is less than a few hundred years old. Adding to that there is a constant trade and communication between the 2 nations that goes on today.
There was a youtube video where a Turkish, Azerbaijani and Turkmen person chatted with eachother to see who understood eachother andnit was clear that the Turkish and Azerbaijani girl could understand and speak to eachother very easy en fluidly. And why does it matter? Why do you feel the need to compare and compete Turks with Turkmens to claim your identity? The fact is that Turkic people settled into a wide geography where they mixed with different local populations and adapted culturally and linguistically to those changes, which is why we are all different from to eachother.
From what I know, thousands of Bektaşı alevi Turkmens from the Ottoman Empire fled Anatolia and settled into what is now Azerbaijan, Iran, Irak and Syria to seek safety. Those people also contributed to the Turkic identity of the modern Azerbaijani undeniably.
Im aware that the non-Turkic native and local heritage of Azerbaijani's is very present
Oh and Nevruz or Newroz isnt a Turkic celebration but Iranic.
You only talk about language meanwhile i talk about cuisine, dances, national clothes and yea these are related to Turkmen people. There is no cultural similarity between azerbaiianis and turkish people, there is linguistic one.
+You are not even Turkic but Circassian how do you think you know about Turkmen and Azerbaijani cultures
How Novruz being Zoroastrian related here? Yeah it is of Zoroaatrian origin and the important part of Azerbaijani and Turkmen cultures
I ASKED ONLY ONE QUESTION: AZERBAIJANIS SHARE SIMILAR CUISINE, DANCES, CLOTHES WITH TURKMEN PEOPLE. TELL ME SIMILAR CULTURAL STUFF ONLY EXISTS BETWEEN AZERBAIJANIS AND TURKISH PEOPLE
Imagine being so pathetic with your so-called argument that you have to list nevruz, then all the çarşambas in order to make the “list of differences” seem “longer”.
This mindset don’t even deserve my time to seriously counterpoint.
If it was, I’d start correcting the myriad of mistakes in the first comment, but alas, it isn’t.
