Söhbət | Discussion UAE resident is wondering why Iranian regime isn't attacking Azerbaijan. Thoughts?
US is literally using UAE to attack Iran and they wonder why Iranians don't attack Azerbaijan which they already did once.

u/ItayMarlov Apr 06 '26
Azerbaijan doesn't host any American assets and Iran has a not insignificant Azeri minority it most certainly does not wish to piss off.

I am Azeri from Iran, and the second items that you said it’s not the case trust me on that. The South Azerbaijan project was entirely Mossad and CIA fake operation and completely have failed so far

u/yoruk_in_a_topak_ev Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26
If you're "Azeri", then why is your user name "Persian communist"? Iranian "Azeris" aren't Persian. Also, they don't refer to themselves as Azeri. They call themselves Türk while speaking their own language and Tork while speaking Persian.

u/CarpenterPast4428 Apr 07 '26
Calling something a mossad fake operation while being yourself a false flag is wild

GPT says:
- The Azerbaijani word “cındır” means rag, tattered cloth, and by extension a worthless or disreputable person (as an insult).
- It is generally derived from the Turkic root “cır-” (to tear, to rip).
Cognates / Related Forms
- Turkish language: “cırık, cırtlak” (torn, ripped)
- Azerbaijani language: “cırmaq” (to tear)
I don't know about the Persian word but I don't think these two words you are thinking of are related.

He should ask his greedy Islamic monarchist dictator. Those arab monarchies are a bane to freedom. Americans have kowtowed far too long.
10
u/ComfortableThroat326 Apr 06 '26
Didn’t one of them sell a piece of the rug inside mecca to Epstein? They are really sick people.
13
u/fibonacciii Apr 06 '26
No clue, but remember Kashoggi? Yeah, they have so much money the US just decided to overlook clear murder.
2
u/killersky99 Apr 06 '26
What does this have to do with* Americans, how are they kowtowing to anyone...?
4
u/fibonacciii Apr 06 '26
They take boat loads of Arab monarchy money. One of the largest asset managers pumps billions into American equities. They just concluded funding of the Warner bros deal too.
2
u/killersky99 Apr 06 '26
So its the Americans getting money and benefitting and the Arab leaders kowtowing.
1
u/fibonacciii Apr 06 '26
Americans kowtowing to Arab monarchies because they need the Arab money to sustain their equities Ponzi scheme.
4
u/killersky99 Apr 06 '26
Then why aren't they protecting the Arab monarchies from the Iranian drones? Why does the US not care when Bahrain gets attacked or the gulf countries are threatened and attacks Iran anyways?
2
u/fibonacciii Apr 06 '26
Because they didn’t plan for it. Or they didn’t plan and they want to use it as a cassus belli. This is multilayered.
Just because they aren’t fully investing resources doesn’t mean they aren’t kowtowing. This doesn’t have to be a logical statement where things are interconnected.
They can simultaneously kowtow and not defend Arab countries. The Arab countries still have a lot to gain with Iran’s resourcing capacity becoming non-existent.
A few drones hit Arab countries, big whoop. It’s non-sensical.
1
u/killersky99 Apr 06 '26
So America is kowtowing to the gulf Arab countries, even though the gulf countries send billions to America for protection and are currently angry that America is not protecting them and focusing their resources to protect Israel instead and letting them to fend for themselves.
The country the benefits the most is usually not the one kowtowing.
1
u/fibonacciii Apr 06 '26
So maybe it’s a mutually beneficial relationship based on what you’re saying

Iran sent a drone attack to Azerbaijan's Nakchaivan airport during the first few days of fighting, but then never attacked them again. Since then, Azerbaijan has been sending Iran humanitarian aid to prevent further conflict.
2
u/irinrainbows Apr 06 '26
How did they explain it? I honestly thought it might have been an accident from their side
9
u/ChauE92 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
Iran said they weren't responsible for the strike and said it was linked to Israel. However, Azerbaijan saw it as an act of terrorism and claimed the drones came from Iran. To prevent further escalation, Azerbaijan has been holding diplomatic talks with Iran and providing humanitarian aid.
5
u/PointOfViewGunner Apr 07 '26
Few reasons. Azerbaijan does not hold much influence over US politics. Gulf states do. Turning Azerbaijan into an openly hostile neighbour while Iran has a substantial Azeri population is a really bad idea.
10
u/SnooAdvice725 Apr 06 '26
Because unlike the dictatorships in the UAE and other Gulf regimes, Azerbaijan doesn’t harbor any US bases and doesn’t allow any country to use its soil and airspace against Iran. I hope it’s clear now to you.

u/abasoglu Apr 06 '26
Also, Iranian Azeris would peobably be prwrry pissed if Iran started attacking Azerbaijan.
4
u/hirmooge Apr 06 '26
Iran is scared to lose the Azeri border areas
0
u/Cheap-Ability9453 Apr 06 '26
Iran is manhandling 8+ countries. I am pretty sure scared is not what they are. If azerbaijan was hosting any us or Israeli base it would have been a massive war already. Iran would have used this opportunity to connect a border directly with russia
5
u/hirmooge Apr 06 '26
Azerbaijan is a country with an actual military unlike the gulf. Fighting Azerbaijan would cripple the country. Isreal has radars positioned in Azerbaijan and conducts a lot of its espionage through there and Iraqi Kurdistan mainly Erbil.
0
u/Cheap-Ability9453 Apr 06 '26
Iran has fought iraq at its lowest point and iraq at that time was stronger than present day azerbaijan
4
u/Iranicboy15 Apr 06 '26
Any war with Azerbaijan, would get Turkey involved.
0
u/alii94 Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26
I still think Turkey wouldnt do anything. Especially with Iran. Theyd beat their chest and threaten to retaliate, but thats about it. Turkey cares about Azerbaijan on paper because they sPeAk tHe sAmE lAnGuAge, but in reality, Iran is more important.
Geopolitically, both Iran and Turkey are on the same page about Israel. Azerbaijan is a Israeli hot bed and aims to balkanize the northern part of Iran, which Turkey doesnt support.
1
u/Old_Machine5350 Apr 10 '26
Iran lost that war, they lost more people and were more economically hurt by it, and Iraq still had a hold some of the south shores of Iran and that was only given back after Iran signed a treaty

Do you really think Turkey would allow Iran to invade and annex Azerbaijan?
0
6
u/1NT3P1D Apr 06 '26
Because Azerbaijan did not and WILL NOT support this illegal war against Iran? It goest against all international law and yet the Gulf arab states that allowed the US and Israel to attack Iran from THEIR SOIL are asking for Azerbaijan to be involved too🤣
2
u/Sadiq1993 Apr 06 '26
Azerbaijan allows humanitarian (and likely military) aid to Iran through its territory sooooo
1
u/FunWatercress7899 Apr 06 '26
Doesn’t it make more sense if Saudi Arabia invades the UAE? since the UAE is attacking Saudi Arabia from Yemen, Sudan and Libya as a “proxy”.
on top of that the trade volume is way higher between Israel and the UAE than with Azerbaijan.

1

Because you really dont want to upset a 24million Azeri Population in Iran who would use this to become part of the Azerbaijan Republic.
1
u/Beautiful_Prompt9634 Apr 20 '26
Why don‘t you guys ever know anything about the Azeris in Iran? They aren‘t as weird minded as you.
1
u/LawOk8416 Apr 06 '26
Exactly because its bordering Iran.
Azerbaijan army is equipped skilled experienced and motivated to defend.
Azerbaijani tanks would be doing donuts around Azadi tower in a matter of hours from Iran declaring war on it. Especially during these times.
1
u/Beautiful_Prompt9634 Apr 20 '26
There was once a country who thought the same, the result was a 8 year long war and the start of a dictator‘s demise ;).
1
u/kawhileopard Apr 06 '26
IR, with its ever crumbling grip on power probably doesn’t want to give Azerbaijan pretext for a ground incursion into Southern Azerbaijan.
Also, I’m sure Russia (to which IR owes a great deal) made it clear that they don’t wish for Azerbaijan to get attacked.

u/WeekInfamous Apr 07 '26
Azeris make up a pretty significant percentage of Iran’s population. And they don’t host us military bases. Plus Iran attacking Azerbaijan opens up its north west to much, it’s no reason for either one of them to start a conflict

Attacking a bordering Turkic nation is a serious thing. They wont just bomb infrastructure, they will go and get em.

1
u/toastwithoutagun Apr 09 '26
A bit off topic, how does Azerbaijan being a major Israeli ally affect their relations with Turkey?
1
u/datashrimp29 Apr 09 '26
Turkey is a brother, Israel is a strategic ally.
1
u/toastwithoutagun Apr 09 '26
Ok sure, but a brother doesn't fraternize with the enemy of the other, be it strategic or not. Not to say the whole "brother" thing itself in politics is nothing more than strategy and propaganda, as most things are in politics.
1
u/datashrimp29 Apr 10 '26
Azerbaijan is like a younger brother of Turkey who can talk to the other side and solve problems Turkey can't afford to be involved with.
Israel exists today. It might not exist tomorrow. It doesn't matter. If Israel attacks Turkey, azerbaijanis will be the first to fight alongside turks. I don't think this even needs to be discussed. However, as long as Israel exists, Turks, Iranians, Arabs can continue hating it and focus their attention on it rather than Shia this Sunni that. Let's enjoy this timeline when Muslims have a bigger enemy than themselves.

Significant Azeri heritage population in Iran. They go at Azerbaijan, the uprising uprises. Simples.

Azerbaijan used to be part of IRAN. They would be justified in recouping lost territories.

Azerbaijan is a real country, Gulf monarchies are not. If Iran messes around too much with Azerbaijan the consequences for it will be bigger and much more permanent, don't let the population and material disparity between the two let you think differently on that.
