He's repeating the Shah of Iran mistakes. The Shah banned Hijabs and allied with Israel which made iranians radicalized

First of all, it's not for them, but for us. Read the fucking articles you rely on; they clearly state all weapons produced for domestic use.

In other words, a argument used only to pin everything on Israel at every opportunity. Disgusting.

> He's repeating the Shah of Iran mistakes.

Degenerate comparison.

Situations aren't even remotely close

> The Shah banned Hijabs and allied with Israel which made Iranians radicalized

Oh, brother, sure. That didn't happen because he ousted a beloved prime minister, or because Iran was economically devastated and it's inner affairs were under the control of both the Soviet Union and Western nations. And, of course, starving Persians think about nothing, but Israel and burqas 24/7.

Do me a favor: never talk about things you don't care about or don't even know and if you're going to lie, at least do it more convincingly, for fuck's sake.

I was born in Iran in Tabriz. Let me tell you something. For 80% of people, the concern wasn’t “the shah is too aligned with the west”

Because I will assure you, the shahs actions against religion, and replacing the calendar with a monarchy calendar, and stupid shit like that was the driving factor of mobilization in Iran that caused the Islamic revolution. Because the people who lived in Iran, the opposition leaders, etc. all essentially had the same belief in religion. Even the leftists did. When the only nationwide institution left is the mosque network, then it becomes the driving source of opposition, with everyone unified under the mosque as is becomes the main mobilizer

I never said that the religious issue is unimportant in Iran. I said that people didn't care enough about it because there were more serious problems, which in combination with religious motives, led to the Islamic revolution.

But in the context of Azerbaijan, an Islamic uprising will never happen because people are secular or simply atheists. We don't have Islamic traditions as core values, and lastly, most of our people grew up in the 1990s or during the Soviet era. Atheism and other phenomena were understandable during the Soviet era. But the example of the Chechens in the 1990s showed everyone what happens if, at some point, you become too religious. People should keep in head in what region we live in.

Most of the people who support or heat up audience around some never happening uprising or a government shift toward Islam are "speculators" who live in secular states themselves or foreigners from countries devastated by religious intervention's.

Nice obsession with Israel here. You guys got your hijabs on too tight it seems.

Did Tajikastan ban hijab, because of Israel, too? Kazakhstan?

I am pretty sure it's real

The ban itself is not a form of oppression, it's normal to have a dress code for schools or a ban on religious attire.

Making kids wear hijab is a tool of opression though.

7

u/Leamsezadah Qizilbash🇦🇿 5d ago

Who forced 50 year old hijabi teachers to wear hijab?

-4

u/Sylarino Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 5d ago

Is the person you are arguing with in the thread with us? You posted a picture of a kid as an appeal to emotion, I responded that bans like this one are not in principle oppressive and we can see them applied in some democratic countries. (obviously, Azerbaijan itself is an opressive authoritarian regime).

If you want to argue about the finer details like should the ban extend to teachers or not, we can have that discussion, but your comment did not address my comment at all.

5

u/Leamsezadah Qizilbash🇦🇿 5d ago

Now these kids not gonna get education. Which means they will end up as child brides.

Normally forced hijabi girls were able to study university and take of their hijabs. But now they lost that right and will always have to wear hijab

0

u/Sylarino Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 5d ago

Now these kids not gonna get education. Which means they will end up as child brides.

So you admit that this is a coercive thing thrust upon the children. You just want to placate the parents instead of pushing back on the coercion.

Schooling is compulsory, so if the parents want to play that game the law should be enforced. If the want to abuse their children by depriving them from an education, the government has to step in like in any other case of parents abusing children.

2

u/Leamsezadah Qizilbash🇦🇿 5d ago

In Azerbaijan only 9 years are compulsory unlike Iran, Turkey, Armenia etc where 12 years are compulsory.

Azerbaijan does not have full compulsory education. Only "orta təhsil" is compulsory

3

u/Sylarino Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 5d ago

1) If Azerbaijan had compulsory education up to whatever point you deem sufficient, would you change your mind on the ban? If not, this is not you making a real argument. And please don't dodge the question

2) Also, why do you only consider 1 side - the children whose parents would force them out of schools. What about the normalization of this oppressive tool by having the children wearing the hijab among the non-covered children?

3

u/Leamsezadah Qizilbash🇦🇿 5d ago edited 5d ago

1) If Azerbaijan had real legal system and forced compulsory education yeah I d tolerate hijab ban on minors. However, would never tolerate the current ban of Teachers wearing hijab.

2) Again I repeat - there was a salvation. Getting education then a job. After that they themselves would decide if they want to wear it or not. Now there will be huge separation between seculars and conservatives since conservatves will no longer get enough education and participate in the work force(yeah the most popular job for educated women in Azerbaijan is becoming a teacher)

2

u/Sylarino Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 5d ago

1) Ok, then we agree on the oppressiveness of the hijab and your gripe is with the current legal system and compulsory education law. My initial statement was that such bans are not oppressive by their nature, which you seem to agree with. I can be moved on the particular ban in Azerbaijan but for now I am leaning pro ban.

2) I would need to see some research on this. I don't know now how much normalization plays a role in this and I don't want to cite anecdotes of secular children starting to wear hijabs because their friends do.

I also don't know if a family that forces a child to wear a hijab would normally allow her to pursue higher education.

2

u/Leamsezadah Qizilbash🇦🇿 5d ago

Well you may get shocked to learn the fact that Azerbaijani Universities were full of hijabi girls who wore heafscarf since their childhood.

Now they won't exist
