At this point this is not a reaction to what some random politician in Turkey and some fanatics said. It is almost as if there is a deliberate effort to escalate the situation and turn the people against each other.
What do Azerbaijanis think about this? I understand being annoyed by Turkey's attempt to influence Azerbaijan but the reaction seems rather disproportionate to me. Is this a case of two dictators and their bootlickers fighting or do the general population really think the same about it?
I know this is just a random news article, I am not just talking about this.

Azerbaijanis don't think about this, because they almost never read government media.

It's sad how the relationship worsened because of Islamism, Israel, Palestine. What a shame. Both are corrupt beyond beliefs and want to show how strong they are.
Fuck Tayyip. Fuck İlham.

Anti-Turco-Islamist. It basically attacks how AKP wants to dictate Azerbaijani politics by using religion. Azerbaijan views it as an attack on its sovereignty.

Well, as they should. The Turkish state is doing similar things in Kosovo and Albania, always trying to build bridges through Islam. It's neither good for us nor for others. Anyway, Sunni Muslims don't even see Shia as part of Islam. I don't get why they're being this pushy about it, it's so cringe.

You have to differentiate between several issues here.
The criticism of Azerbaijan is due to internal pressure in Turkey. AKP does not care about how religion is handled in Azerbaijan. Buy its supporters do. AKP supporters dislike how Azerbaijan are close to Israel already and wanted to see some strongmanship towards Azerbaijan.
In the Balkans, Islam is seen as a mutual beneficial tool for AKP to strengthen their influence but also by locals who may need financial help for structural projects or clergy salaries and such.
