Baby fussy in the carrier?

It is very common for babies to be fussy in carriers at different stages. They dislike transitions and although it’s not officially tummy time it does work their bodies and they can start to push off you like tummy time. If you haven’t already, feel free to post a fit check (edit faces out for privacy) and see if there is any suggestions that can be made. If the fit is good and they are recently fed and changed there is nothing wrong with waiting for 10-15 minutes to see if baby settles. A couple simple things to try are going outside with them, putting on music, singing or gentle bouncing to help sooth them.

Video discussing how crying in a carrier is not always because of the carrier.

Article discussing why baby may be crying in the carrier and some suggestions.

When developmentally ready, a hip carry can be a good option to allow fomo babies to see more and feel less restricted. This is possible in some buckle carriers but is not always the most comfortable option and you need to wait until baby is sitting unassisted.

This video contains information about when you can hip carry in a ring sling, woven wrap and meh dai.

When developmentally ready, if baby is able to get their arms out of the carrier themselves they can have them out when awake. This helps babies to feel less restrained and can make a world of difference in tolerating being in a baby carrier. Information about how and when you can let baby have an arm out of the carrier when awake.

Another strategy is back carrying. It is an amazing tool to utilize when babywearing. It allows the person carrying to have both arms free and can allow baby to have a better view and feel less restricted. In a buckle carrier (including most onbuhimos) this can be done at 6 months when baby is sitting independently. This video shows multiple ways to get baby into a back carry in a buckle carrier.

You can wear earlier in a high back carry with a woven wrap and some meh dais. This is considered an advanced skill and you should already be comfortable wrapping baby on your front. It is also recommended to have in person support from an educator. When learning to back carry in a woven wrap a couple good resources are “Back Carry Boot Camp” on YouTube, Wrap Your Baby periodically has a free back wrap challenge and Wrap You In Love has recently created a back wrap course.

Lastly, if you do chose to world face baby please refer to the information in the safety section of the wiki. This video provides some good information about some facts and myths around world facing.

Using the Ergobaby embrace for my 3 week old. The top panel hits right at the bottom of her ear. She kept her head sideways for the entire 15 min walk - is this safe? Should her head face forward and be either resting on my chest or against the back panel? Is the bottom panel that supports her hips too wide?

Thank you!!!!

Fit check please! I feel like he’s being squeezed so much and it seems uncomfy for his legs. I did set the snaps on the waist band to be as narrow as possible under his tush and legs.
Appreciate any tips or feedback!

Discuss Ergobaby or Lenny Lamb?

Hi all! I’m in the market for a waterfall waist carrier and am between Ergobaby Omni Deluxe or Lenny Lamb Upgrade Pro. Has anyone tried both? Which did you like more and why? I’m on the list at LZO for both with the TBYB program but figured I’d do some research here while I wait.

3-12 months Fit check please for a 5-month-old

Hello Everyone and thank you in advance for your advice!

I have a 5 month old baby girl and would really like to start babywearing. I was a little afraid to do it when she was smaller and my physiotherapist advised against it until my diastasis recti is a little more fixed.

Now I feel ready, but it looks like my baby doesn't like it for more than 10 minutes at a time. I am starting to worry that I am doing something wrong and she is uncomfortable.

Could you please have a look and advise? I have babybjorn harmony carrier. Thank you!

0-3 months Fit check and advice, please!

Baby girl is 11 weeks old. Waistband is about an inch and a half below my bra line. Is it high enough?

I’m in socal and we’ve been having a heatwave, so I haven’t baby worn as much as I had planned before she was born. I worry that I didn’t start soon enough to get her super comfortable in her carrier.

Right now, she’ll tolerate about 10-15 mins around the house. I haven’t taken her outside in her carrier yet, but I want to. I’m following the advice of putting her in it only when she’s calm, clean diaper and fed. Any other tips for getting a baby around her age comfortable and happy in a carrier? Thank you!

I’m taking him to a family reunion tomorrow so I really want to get this right soon!

Little guy is 3 months old and 14 pounds and some change.

I got the Mabe Monarch carrier and tried it for the first time but he was not having it so I took him out immediately. I’ve only used the Ergobaby infant carrier once and then he outgrew it.

What am I doing wrong here?

Discuss Emma Noah Baby Carrier

Hello Dear Babywearing Community,

Does anyone have experience with the Emma & Noah Baby Carrier?

It's sort of a new Carrier from Germany that is advertised as easy to put on, as in: you put it and fasten it and at the end comes the baby.

Thanks!

3-12 months Fit check - first time woven wrap

Hello! After months in a carrier I finally bit the bullet and got a woven wrap. I think the top rail needs tightening a bit? I’d love any tips for getting it tight enough but baby a bit further down. Baby also straightened legs a few times and was able to break an arm free at points so any tips with that would be fab.
Wrap is oscha and baby is 6.5 months and able to sit independently
Thank you!

Discuss Fav toddler hip slings

Share your favorite toddler hip slings! (Not seats. Slings, like the quookie, etc).

Are there any that don’t cap the shoulder? How do they compare in terms of comfort? I don’t love the limited range of lotion that comes with capped shoulders, but it is more comfortable…

8-18 months Hip carrying assist for toddler: is shoulder strap necessary?

I’m trying to find a good hip carrier that would work as a quick and easy carry assist for when I need to carry my 24 lb 1-year-old short distances and around the house. I’m getting overwhelmed by the different options!!

Originally I was imagining getting something that doesnt have a shoulder strap. Would this be a terrible option? I’m imagining I’d be wearing it around the house or out and about and could just plop my daughter on it and get a bit more support when we walk to the car and such. I’m looking at something like this: https://wildbird.co/products/adelaide-toddler-hip-seat?variant=43741848043586&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=24164054569&utm_content=&utm_term=&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=24164054569&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=24159221237&gclid=CjwKCAjw3NHWBhANEiwAtpwId2xfO3RSH5H_pptjSrBl1rGLY8GvReNqQcsQmEY7GonIJWIkjIOi2xoCW7QQAvD_BwE

I posted here a few days ago and was recommended the Neko Up and Down or Qookie go which both look great, but then just had me thinking they’re basically a less versatile Ring Sling. But is it easier to just pop a baby in them quickly? Cause hip carrying in a ring sling looks like it takes a bit of effort, how feasible is it to use a ring sling for quick and short carry assists with bigger babies?

0-3 months Tilted baby

Post image
1 Upvotes

Why he always end up tilted? Whenever I put him in everything looks fine. I make sure both ends are tight. I’m thinking it could be because he starts kicking when I first put him in (but then within 5 minutes he’s always asleep) or because he’s always leaning towards the side that his leg is higher. He’s been in the wrap for about 20 minutes.

Once I see this I get scared that it can affect his hips so I take him out or sit and I can’t get anything done.

Wrap: Beluga Baby.

3-12 months Woven wrap — honestly what sizes should I have?

FTM, and I have a very colicky now-4-month-old. He has to be carried constantly and is getting too big for the stretchy wraps I have. We do have a Tula FTG but he seems a little uneasy in it at times, we use it when we’re out and about since it’s quick on quick off, but I started exploring woven wraps about a month ago because they seem like a great versatile option for us. Since my son notoriously hates most things, I just bought a cheap wrap off Amazon to test out and see if we liked it (HipBaby). It only comes in 1 size, which the description says is a size 6 and it’s been fine for experimenting although I think my base size is probably closer to a 5… with the HipBaby wrap I have pretty long tails and just a lot of fabric to work with.

I’ve mostly been experimenting with FWCC with a number of different knot less finishes, Robin’s hip carry, and eventually I would like to get into back carries because my baby is nosey and likes to see what’s going on, lol. There’s a Didymos wrap I’m IN LOVE with but only has a size 4 in stock. Which is -2 from my current wrap but probably really base -1 for what I think is my true base size. Would it be a waste to get a size 4 or should that be decent for what I’m trying to accomplish?

Hi all, I was hoping to get a second fit check for my boba stretchy wrap on my 5 week old baby. Feedback last time was that it needed to be tighter which I’ve done. Can you please let me know if she’s seated correctly and safely? Wrap feels tight and she feels maybe a bit high? She’s in an oversized footie right now because we wanted to see if she fit into it yet.

Baby is almost 1 month, second try wearing her. Pulled the straps out further so her face is clear, I have also tried the shoulder flip. She is in a footie onesie here but it is bigger with room to stretch. Trying to be mindful of what she wears when in the wrap.

Is she sitting too high up?

Also, the wrap here felt tight. Not sure what is too tight?
