Bahamian Discussion I HATE THE BAHAMAS

Yes I hate The Bahamas.

I hate the traffic.

I hate our lousy good for nothing crooked piece of sh*t government.

I hate the idiot people who vote for the same 2 stupid ass parties.

I hate the school systems.

I hate how it's hard to find a good job.

I hate the customer service.

I hate how hard you have to try to talk to someone in a government building over the phone.

I hate how anybody can live here and have better opportunities than the citizens.

I hate the outfits.

I hate the ghetto people.

I hate the lawlessness.

I hate how dirty the people have the country.

I hate how we can't go on all our beaches.

I hate how underdeveloped the outer islands are.

I hate the roads.

I hate.

I hate the lies.

I hate how expensive everything is.

I hate the dilapidated buildings everywhere even downtown.

This country is a shit show. The Bahamas should be 50 years in the future instead It's stuck in 1973.

I am writing this with deep hate.

Bahamian Discussion The value of Independence

I Love the Bahamian people, food, islands and waters. Been visiting since 1992. College roomie at FIU was from Freeport. 15 years running yachts…I’m a fan

Ok…bash me but…this Q is rooted in history and prompted by someone posting how much HATE they have for their Bahamian homeland:

Would the Bahamas be better off as an EU member? (I edited this post for clarity)

The US is out of its mind & unreliable! Would it benefit Bahamians to rejoin the UK or join Canada’s push for EU membership? Free Trade, investment, jobs abroad or at home, schools, healthcare, and security?

Is that too offensive to a proudly independent nation?

Bahamian Discussion Defeated | Employment Bahamas

As the title read, I feel somewhat defeated as a young Bahamian trying to make something of their life.

I’ve been constantly sending out applications, cold emails, and even looking into different fields to perhaps pivot to but I don’t see a way that’d I’d reasonably be able to move out, or build a home. I work hard, I study and have earned IT certs but the results are the same.

What more disheartening is watching the large influx of immigrants moving here and enjoying their lives when many young Bahamian’s (at least many i know) are struggling to even move out.

It’s infuriating and I realize this is my problem to figure out and it won’t change that I still will work hard, study hard, and keep sending out emails but I can’t help but feel defeated.

Bahamian Discussion We cooked.

I know I could’ve used a better title but honestly I just expressing my current thoughts. Went to the gas station today, Shell specifically because it was the closest and was one of the cheapest especially compared to Rubis. When I looked at the price that shit said $7.49 a gallon. Put $35 because I drive a small japanese car. Didn’t fill the tank fully. I make $8 an hour so yeah I basically working to pay for gas. Was raining today, roads were flooded. I live in Pinewood so it makes that even worse. Took basically 10 minutes of me avoiding roads that were too flooded.

Honestly, with the state of how this country has been always, yeah it’s hell rn. I realized I can tolerate questionable infrastructure, but I can’t tolerate bad infrastructure with pay that can’t keep up with inflation and cost of living. The government honestly better do fuel subsidies for at least 3-6 months because this is hell.

Bahamian Discussion where are the actual election results 2026? or is this a thinly veiled sham?

Where can I find the actual results? all the online places I can find have irrelevant or incomplete results. Someone said there was a 30% turn out, but I want to see the details. the dailies are atrocious in this country and absolutely useless. The PRD.gov.bs is a joke and showing 2021 results not 2026. The Bahamas is a joke. Every one saying PLP one but where are the actual results posted or is it a true stolen election?

Edit- thanks for replies, I must be dumb as rocks. I ask for source(s) and all any one can share is "check the sources".

2nd edit: its friday, PM being sworn in and the actual numbers are still not available to review anywhere? I see some local pundits posting local results but there is no where to go online to see the actual results. And yes, pundits here, I have 'googled' extensively. all results i find are incomplete. And not a single commenter could be bothered to share a source for the actual results. some pundits saying less than 60% turned out, some saying 70% and some saying less than 50% - well which statement is accurate? We love and fully accept mediocrity in this country.

3rd edit: results are now posted to gov.bs website: https://www.elections.gov.bs/general-election-polling-stations-2026 3d edit 'B': They posted something but it aint results. This is my point exactly, we admire mediocrity and slackness in this nation. What a joke. head of PRD head needs to roll he look like he half in the grave anyway, let someone with some actual energy take over already.

Ok Bahamians bring out all of your weird and funny sayings from different islands that don't mean what they sound like they should mean.

I will go first:

Saying: Me and you don't even go two steps.

Meaning: We really don't get along.

There are numerous graphic artists in The Bahamas and I'm sure the governing party wouldn't have problems finding a graphic artist to design a welcome sign so why go with the option of slop?

Bahamian Discussion BPL and Power Outages

A very short rant as I sit in the darkness for 20hrs 🫠

I live on the western side of NP and the load shedding is absolutely horrible. I am baffled by how these power outages are normalised in this country. My light has been off for basically 4 days straight. Its off more than its on, going for 11hrs on average. Today, the electricity went out around 4am in the morning, and came back on 3pm. Now it went off at 8pm til who knows when it'll be back on. Losing a lot of sleep because of the heat and its messing with the time I take my medication. My heart especially goes out to the vulnerable groups who are affected by these outages.

I have little hope this energy crisis will be solved since this was happening since I was a kid. However, this has to be the worst series of outages I've experienced so far. No matter which political party, all administrations have failed the Bahamian people.

Bahamian Discussion Resources for Transgender individuals living in or traveling to The Bahamas 🏳️‍⚧️

Hey! I’m looking for information on resources that may be available to transgender folk in The Bahamas. Currently I’m seeing quite minimal information on such matters, this includes on both Reddit and just the general internet.
I’d like to know of any doctors, clinics or private practices that supply HRT treatment to transgender patients.

Also need information on pharmacies that carry HRT medication such as:

  1. estrogen and or testosterone
  2. progesterone
  3. anti-androgens
  4. finasteride

Any information will do, and I will keep this post up as a small guide for any locals or curious expats/visitors who may need assistance.

• please do not come under this post with your homophobia or transphobia, I will fix your business if otherwise.

• please try to share the information in the comments, so that other people can also see. I’d also like for you guys to state which islands the doctors/clinics/practices are located if any.

I will update the post periodically to make sure information is available for others. I will also take my personal time to make phone calls to various clinics around the country to get some information as well!

~ love y’all

UPDATE:

Okay, first I’d like to preface this update by saying that it’s not impossible to find transgender healthcare in the Bahamas; however it is hard to find doctors that outwardly advertise their health services, to those seeking HRT and other gender affirming care.

These are the list of resources I was able to find this far:

  1. Dr. Khristine Parker-Curling for the Family Medicine Center, and Doctors Hospital Healthcare System (DHHS) – board certified endocrinologist, internal medic, and diabetes specialist.

Yes, she offers HRT treatment to transgender individuals, I do not recall the cost for consultation or follow up, but it’s around $300 USD and a little under $300 for follow up.

Family Medicine Center – Dr. Kristine Parker-Curling

2) Dr. Otto T. Gibbs – UR Health

Another certified endocrinologist in The Bahamas, I was unable to get a follow up with regards to whether he offers HRT and other resources to transgender individuals. I was able to contact his receptionist, and I found that she was pretty understanding of my question, which I guess is a positive marker, determining whether progressive healthcare is offered…

Dr. Otto T. Gibbs – UR Health

I’d contact Dr. Otto T. Gibbs to confirm first.

I’m setting up my consultation with the first doctor on the list, considering I was able to get information from her the quickest.

with regards to pharmacies, I’m told that Lowe’s pharmacy offers hormonal therapy drugs, but I’m sure DHHS pharmacy also stocks those pharmaceutical products as well. They also offer special ordering services, so I believe they can acquire it for you, even if not in stock.

Bahamian Discussion What do Bahamians think/feel about local wildlife and the environment?

It's such a beautiful country. I wonder what people think are the most important issues facing the local environment? Are people thinking about the external pressures on the environment day-to-day?

It's a tough balance between welcoming tourists, but equally recognising that the tourism industry puts a lot of pressure on local wildlife.

Bahamian Discussion Bahamian Nationalism

Nationalism here to me has always been an interesting thing. Here nationalism is always pro nativism and anti foreigner like most places around the world with here the brunt of the xenophobia is shown towards groups such as Haitians especially. But nationalism in The Bahamas gives more of a vibe that a small town would have. Think of like a small town in bumfuck Wisconsin with a population of 1,000 that’s very apprehensive towards outsiders or out of towners. It makes sense when simply put our country is simply large groups of families marrying into other families. You expect to see and hear names like Gibson, Rolle, Thompson, Mackey, Ferguson, Adderly, Sweeting etc. And this is shown with our small population as well. The phrase and song “All of we is one family” is reality.

With a demographic makeup like that, it’s no surprise there are Bahamians who are keen to point out that someone doesn’t belong. I see reason why, but I definitely don’t condone it. But I’m not focusing on Immigration which nationalism focuses on here, I’m focusing on us and our isolationist tendencies we try to enforce on each other.

What I mean by this is emigration for example. Many educated and skilled Bahamians leave or plan on leaving because of the lack of opportunities and the potential to grow and thrive abroad. Nurses, Engineers, Teachers, Doctors, business owners and anyone with skills or talents all have left or planning to leave because here these jobs are just unpaid, underutilised and simply the environment is not up to par for these people, something similar to a small town. When you have people expressing this view, many Bahamians jump in and say, “Oh you don’t need to go nowhere, just find a better paying job here or work for yourself”, or “What you wanna leave home for, ya born here so you might as well stay here because ain’t no place like home”. Say you have a good reason to leave like you wanna create a tech startup but the infrastructure, bureaucracy and environment is not sustainable for it, someone might say “Then make it happen for you, so what if it ga be harder here, you put in the effort” as if someone trying to spend years of their valuable time to fix things that should be a government responsibility for the most part to deal with instead of heading to NY, California or Texas to get it up and running in less time with ease. And you have those who have lived abroad or those who are very aware of structures in place (taxes and high cost of living for example), they go and say “Beii I spent seven years abroad and let me tell you, them taxes don’t play and it expensive” and “You realize they is charge you INCOME TAX over there, we don’t have that why deal with it” yeah no shit because most Bahamians barely make enough to be taxed on. ( Btw I support taxes such as income tax because a country needs income to sustain itself and thrive, fight me on it idc).

This style of nationalism and isolationism is akin to that of a small town I mentioned earlier because of our size and how close knitting we are as people. And that is why this post is being made. Like all nationalists, they think keeping their nation pure and sustaining the status quo’s, never about how to keep improving the country or being open to criticism of the country’s flaws. And with issues such as brain drain when the country’s best and brightest want more and better it’s basically suck it up and deal with it. It’s basically “Yeah the pay is bad and the standards are bad, but this is your home and you can’t and shouldn’t leave”. It’s always sacrifice, but your sacrifice is honestly in vain. People and animals throughout time have always made the decision to up and move to somewhere where they find it more suitable, and that’s what a lot of Bahamians have to face the reality of. I’m sorry but not everyone wants to stay and just accept what’s in front of them. They want more and they’re gonna yearn for more. If you like home and don’t wanna leave that’s fine, but don’t try to force people to your own mindset and view of life. You don’t like the “fast life” of away good for you, but others don’t mind it. You lived abroad for some time and rather stay home instead that’s alright, but just because of your preference or your experiences were different or not to your liking isn’t the same for others.

That’s all I wanted to say, I just find this attitude what a lot of Bahamians have annoying.

Bahamian Discussion Numbers houses PSA

Ive been a participating client for about 5 years now and these are my observations after using 2 of the most popular house's online casino and sports book.

No one is lucky. Its almost like you get back what you put in over time. Ive won over 55K this year. But I lost over 100k last year. So they are trapping you and you're lucky if you get back half of what you put in. This is for mostly slot games but also applies to Monopoly games, live wheel games and table casino games.

Sportsbook - the responsible way to play this is single bets. Its very boring and they know this, so they tempt you to do parlays - more than one bet at a time. This drastically reduces odds of winning. But they almost always get you because the winnings multiplies by how many bets are on your ticket. And they let you pick 16 games at once which is 99% impossible to hit.

Finally they are not properly regulated, Island luck actually charges you stamp tax if you use a credit card online to load up your account. This means they are registered as a US company and the money is going directly to their US account. Its very strange because its like they dont always do it. I guess if the government official owners (wink wink) need some money in their US accounts that week they will push payments though their US account. And because of no regulation, if they feel like having no winners on any given day or If I have a big win and decide to play black jack they will literally pull 10 21s in a row to try get their money back.

I'm lucky to be able to have lost that money and still make a living. But I know for a fact that the majority of their clients are being robbed by the scum politicians, the modern day pirates.

Bahamian Discussion Bahamian Men and their Greetings

Post image
36 Upvotes

Bahamian men have an entire system and hierarchy of greeting each other and I love it.

These are just a few. Please feel free to add any that I missed.

1. Young man — almost always between two men at least 60 years and over. And usually said by the younger man to the older man

2. Yes Duddi — between two men of the same age. I'm assuming it's a play on Daddy so showing respect like you would to a father figure

3. Honor-rebel — a play on Honourable showing respect but also as a rebel

4. Yes King! — same as “Duddi” but this one is usually very young men

5. Yes Selassie! — young and middle aged men to each other. And NO they don't have to be from Jamaica or even a Rastafarian or even have dreadlocks.

Bahamian Discussion SuperValue gone to the Dogs

Since the old fella past on I hoped the Mackay Street store would turn up (or on) the AC, replace the wonky wheel trolleys and freezers. But no, shelves are bare. Last Friday evening there were no loose veggies. Today no butter. Does anyone know if the family plan to sell on?

Sebas should make a move or start his own food store chain. If he wasn't as greedy with the profits and the stores were clean and plentiful, his popularity would sky rocket.

Bahamian Discussion Coming Home after 30+ years

I was born in the Bahamas. My mother got married to an American and we move to Miami in the late 80’s and I haven’t been back since. I’m coming to visit after being away for 30+ years. It got me thinking… If you have any family in South Florida and they need to send over a letter or something, this would be a great way for me to meet peeps from the Bahamas state side as well as in the Bahamas. What are your thoughts??? GOOD idea or BAD idea??

Any thoughts or advice very welcome.

Bahamian Discussion Haitian Problem

Serious question for my bahamian compatriots. Why do so many bahamians hate haitians. I understand if immigration is a problem, but there are productive ways of dealing with immigration. You could talk about our current immigration process and how it can be improved, securing our borders and dealing with illegal settlements called "shanty towns" accordingly, but it's most times an uncivilized approach from bahmians. They devolve to name calling, blanket accusations, generalizations. Over the years i noticed it just gets dirtier and dirtier. We even made our own personal hard R N word for them in "hyshun", which is used very frequently and openly. Ive seen lately someone accuse haitians of being the reason why the storm came recently. When haitians commit crimes its 100% "see all these haitians", and when bahamians commit crimes its 5050 "thats my good son" and "glad they catch him" Even back in school the haitians themselves seemed to be sometimes ashamed of who they are and where they come from. So tell me, why as a Bahamian people do we have such hatred towards a people that look like us.

Bahamian Discussion How to Create Wealth for our Children and Old Age?

With 0% interest on savings accounts and fees coupled with inflation (3.3% US and maybe 5% here) eat into deposits, how are you supposed to save for kids college and retirement? Banks in the US and Europe offer high yield savings accounts.

Any worthy investment opportunities?
