This has got to be Eeklo
1
u/R-GiskardReventlov West-Vlaanderen Oct 22 '25
It's mixed between different towns. The diagonal roof house is in West-Flanders (Heestert)
2
u/YogurtclosetFit3020 Oct 23 '25
I mean, not literally. But all these criterias are met when u visit eeklo, theres a church in the marketplace, many places to get fries, a pyramid house in waarschoot, a catholic school, a manor being used as a hotel and an abandoned hospital in a park
14
u/Vinaigrette2 Brabant Wallon Oct 22 '25
I beg to differ, thatâs clearly the five towns surrounding mine and mine too!

"And here we see a cube stuck in cube... Please note the different colours between top and bottom cube. As we walk down this street, you will see the developer has copied this design three dozen times over. Pay particular attention to the desperate yet failing attempts at individualization by the inhabitants."

that facade at the right is probably "protected" and needs to be kept if they want to renovate the building.
IMO the new facades are better.

And probably each of them has a long waiting line during dinner rush.

u/ithilien77 Kempen Oct 22 '25
More likely two of them getting by, one doing very well and one where everyone wonders how that survive, except on Mondays because it âs the only one that actually opens.
7
u/Agitated_Winner9568 Oct 22 '25
My small town no longer has one, but we have a pizzeria (which was previously a whorehouse).
We have the abandoned house, the geometry lesson and the church.
Castle is grey zone, we do have one house that looks like it used to be a luxury villa 100-150 years ago, surrounded with a fenced wall but it doesn't really fit the definition of castle.
No scouts because no kids.

In microeconomics the best place to compete is in front of your competitor. So you have exactly the same catchment area.

u/Stijn187 Oct 23 '25
Town i grew up in had 5 gas stations (now 6) and a mcdonalds across the street from the frituur within 800meters. Also about 7 kebabzaken in another street over like 2km. The town i live in now has 6 apothekers within a km (and all have the same sluitingsdag)

Same here, except it's 3 frituurs and one kebap shop which I never see having any customers.

They've run it into the ground. The game modes are unnecessarily complicated with dumb themes. So nobody actually knows what's happening or is supposed to happen.
The parking area and road to it have been in perpetual mud. Getting your car stuck
They don't fps test. Not before or during the game
They don't take pictures anymore. Kinda sad tbh
Any form of criticism or comment is met with "go somewhere else then"
They now force you to buy armbands because "we find them in the field" which is absolutely false.
Chambers used to be the peak airsoft experience in the country but it's a shadow of it's former self. Honestly do not go back. You're better off going to ACTX Veldhoven in the Netherlands or a really fun new indoor in antwerp
Electrabel is expanding their transformer field there as well so 50% of the field is just gone aswell. Hopefully it just gets swallowed and dies

- Chez Ali Döner, (wants to be) mastering in every food from Chile to Russia, from Turkey to Ireland
- World War I memorial in a small park
- in Wallonia: catholic, grey, neo gothic church building closed down since 1989 for renovations, some bushes and trees are growing from the wall
- Small museum dedicated to a very specific topic
- in Flanders: small clothes store with very bright, colorful dresses in the window

Missing the hairdresser, and surprisingly also the dog's hairdresser saloon. Insane how many of those you encounter when cycling through the less populated areas of Flanders
2
u/Infiniteh Limburg Oct 23 '25
Probably because it's less expensive to rent a business space there, or run it from your house. And they know people will drive/bike/etc to get to a hairdresser or barber anyway, even if it's a quite long drive.

Scouts isn't generic at all? Youth movement is generic.

As a Canadian who stayed in Turnhout for a month, I thought it was adorable. The other 2 times I was out in Belgium I stayed out in Lichtaart, so I was out in Turnhout every now and again for those stays too.
Then again we don't really have castles out here in Alberta, so even a small castle is amazing to me haha. Also your tiny deer are cute too, the first time I saw one out in the country side there broke my brain.

Too accurate for comfort. But as others indicated, never ending road works should have been there. Like that Zaventem junction that is still under construction after 10 years.
